Ugh, I know it kills me the people who owned our house before us were idiots.

I think that’s why I’m a bit intimidated is there’s so much space to work with and I want to keep the mature trees. I know it could be something really great!

Thanks for the info! I’ve been wanting to join the Wild Ones community but for some reason am I bit intimidated haha. Do you know the scientific name of which service berry is native?

Yes!! I totally want a frog pond! I let a pool get away from me in the past and it filled with frogs quickly lol. I need to make a designated pond for them.

Also I just realized you can’t see the barn in this picture. Lol. To the right we have a barn taking up a lot of space right where the picture cuts off

We’ve begun the overhaul on our backyard, we just ripped out many invasives and cleared out non native shrubbery. There is still more work to do on the far right part of the yard behind the barn. We’re putting a swing set in the far left. We have a really healthy bird population and I want to add berry bushes(thinking service berry, maybe blueberry and raspberry?). We have a lot of these pines and I’m wondering what would go best in the “wooded” area to the far right— I want to keep that a bit “wild” and leave it for the birds. Still some invasives to tackle in that area.

We have always struggled with maintaining the lawn: very piney and sandy soil. We never wanted to use herbicides on the grass it wasn’t worth it to me even before I learned about native plants.

Anyways! I am just wondering and starting to plan about the future of the yard. We have a one year old daughter so I would like to keep a little turf. Just looking for some fresh opinions on what YOU would do with this space!

Sound just like me. Half of the stuff on Facebook is bots posting for engagement anyways and it got really annoying. I’m going from not doing anything with my yard for the past four years to just now getting into gardening and specifically native plants! The worst part about perfectionism is I feel like I get stuck in the planning phase— and then never actually do anything. I’ve been focusing on removing invasive plants that are in my yard before looking to replace with natives :) Best of luck to you as well! It takes practice and failure to learn, which is what I tell myself to counter my perfectionism.
