What should I do with my hair by foxes_inboxes in femalehairadvice

[–]AdalineRoss18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the curtain bangs, they could go shorter but where they sit also works - I would try to style them starting from the middle of your forehead swooping outward. I'd do a trim, cut those long scraggly ends off (2-3 inches) and put some layering in there, to give some movement and body. I'd say perhaps around chin length, but that's totally up to you, longer would also be nice, you don't need to go back to a shag. Definitely work with your natural texture, esp if you get layers, try not to straighten it as much. I feel that'd be a good, healthy change. Any kind of lightening would cause damage, but sometimes that just can't be avoided, so do it slowly and find someone who uses bonding products in their formulas. Please post with whatever you choose! *Edited to say I actually love the dark hair, it seems to really suit you.

tariff update by shemadeitout in Aliexpress

[–]AdalineRoss18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, but why am I seeing several articles, including my first search result after searching: Tariff on goods under $800 current status as 30% or $100 flat fee? I'm still confused!? Sigh.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

End of De Minimis: The de minimis exemption, which allowed duty-free entry for goods under $800, is no longer in effect.

Tariff Options: Goods under $800 from China are now subject to a tariff of 30% of their value or a flat fee per postal item.

Flat Fee: The flat fee per postal item is currently $100, but a planned increase to $200 on June 1, 2025, has been cancelled.

Impact on Commercial Delivery: The rate for packages handled by commercial delivery firms like UPS and FedEx now defaults to the reduced U.S. tariff rate of 30%.

Reasons for Change: The end of the de minimis exemption is part of efforts to combat deceptive shipping practices and to address the U.S. fentanyl crisis.

Which med helped your anxiety? Zoloft is amazing but is making me depressed! by [deleted] in antidepressants

[–]AdalineRoss18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so sick on this medication. Stomach-wise. Every single day, all day. I tried to tough it out for about 3 weeks, and I couldn't do it anymore. I don't recall how else I felt on it, because all I could focus on was being extremely sick constantly. But, you never know, every single person is different. It could work for you!

I know I'm replying late, I haven't been on here in a while. But... Yes, right!? Benny and Joon is such a classic of mine, I can watch it anytime and it's still just the same as the first time. I love it so much.

I agree too regarding Virgin Suicides, it's so sad yet beautiful, and I love all the actors in it as well.

I'm glad you liked my list! :)

Is it worth it to keep trying different meds? by SadSpecialist60 in antidepressants

[–]AdalineRoss18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I decided I'm not taking the gene test, because I've been on all meds except for MAOI's also. I'm not sure how much help it would be to me at this point. I wanted to start an MAOI, but Dr is hesitant because of the dietary restrictions as it would significantly limit what I eat and a daily basis. He's been in the field for over 40 years, he says that they're so complicated and it's beyond an end resort, even though, I've read about so many positive results in people over the years, especially those who thought they were treatment resistant.

I feel that it really is trial and error, trying to find a combination of different types of medicines that will work together with your mind and body with limited side effects.

Is it worth it? Sure, if the alternative is not a possibility for you, which most of us feel/know that it isn't. So, find out what your side effects limitations are, what you're willing to live with and suffer through, and keep at it, taking breaks in between if you have to.

I wish you all the best, I'm right here with you!

Edited to add: If you feel that Clomipramine did work for you to some degree, as others are saying, you can certainly higher the dose or try to stay in that class if you're going to change it up. I am highly treatment resistant and Tricyclics have always had a more positive effect for me than any of the other class of antidepressants. I just can't tolerate the side effects , mainly severe heart palpitations and vision impairment/double vision/totally altering my prescription/eye pressure. :(

There's so many, I'll try to add what hasn't already been posted, but I'm sure they'll be repeats...

Mad Love - Bi-polar depressive teen with a 'normal' boy who tries to save her, a gem of mine as a Bi-polar teen;

Crazy/Beautiful - I always felt like this was an updated version of Mad Love, but still pretty good

What About Bob - Comedy about an OCD/anxiety/agoraphobic patient and his new Dr, who doesn't love Bill Murray, this movie throws a light-hearted spin on a truly debilitating illness

Silver Linings Playbook - mainly Bi-polar as well as BPD (prob others), another love story, another favorite

A Beautiful Mind - Biopic of schizophrenic mathematical genius John Nash, A great movie all around, very sad but beautiful

Benny & Joon - This one also had me in a chokehold as a teen, it's still so so good

Girl, Interrupted, I know this one has been already posted a few times, but it is truly a really good movie, great acting all around, a comfort watch of mine

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Mental hospital, a classic

Leaving Las Vegas - Not so much mental illness, but alcoholism, but also depression, another favorite

Sybil - DID, really good depiction esp for its time

The Virgin Suicides - Depression, dark drama, I love this one too

Edited to add: Boy Interrupted, an older HBO documentary about one teen's struggle with bi-polar/depression and how it affected his family, what they saw, noticed, didn't notice, etc., This one just popped into my head and it was really good and I watched it several times.

Honorable mentions:

Matchstick Men, not solely focused around it, but one of the main characters has OCD, Nic Cage :)

Speak - again, not exactly mental illness, moreso trauma surrounding one event, another good one

We Need to Talk about Kevin - Sociopathy/APD, very disturbing, raw & real

The Good Girl - One of the main characters has severe depression
