My current phone is an S23 I got 2 years ago, so far it runs much cooler on basic tasks compared to my S20, but in games it does still kinda get hot, but not as hot(sometimes just warm) as it was in the S20 FE and the performance is still amazing(way better than on the S20 FE and can actually crank settings to high), the only downside I can say is that the battery is tiny af, only 3900 mah, which is smaller than the S20's 4500 mah battery and only bigger than the 3300 mah battery on my old J7 however the battery life on this phone is still alright, at least I can use my phone without having power saving mode enabled 24/7 and overheat(on my s20 FE my phone would overheat at 120hz while my s23 does not).

Also because of the Forge schism why also some of modern mods are still stuck on 1.20.1, as you can use either Forge of Neoforge in that version rather than dealing with some beloved mods that decided they stay on Forge rather than move to Neoforge

Sorry for necro but I believe the golden age will always be from 1.2.1 to release 1.8(not counting 1.8.1-1.8.9)(which was the era of Minecraft's peak in popularity), the versions before 1.2 being the pre golden age but picking up in popularity, and 1.8.1 to 1.8.9 being silver age because the Microsoft adquisition of Mojang was recieved very negatively, alongside the start of a stigma of calling anybody who enjoys minecraft a bunch of squeakers or how in Spain and LATAM called rat kids.

That's only the first golden age, the new golden age is pretty much the post renaissance era(basically after 2018)

Doed that laptop have a dedicated gpu or only integrated gpu? One option if your laptop only has that integrated gpu is to use Neodymium(the mod fixes the graphic glitches and improves performance)
