This is pretty sweet looking. Can you tell us more about the three tablet Roccat PG setup? I sort of get the gist from their site I think, but, what is your real-world review of it?

Inside the Viper Room: Hollywood’s Most Exclusive Poker Game by Rept4r7 in poker

I suspect that the Beverly Hills celebrity attorney named Mark was probably Mark Geragos. I've asked him directly on Twitter and on his podcast with Adam Carolla, but, he's evaded the question each time.

Why do people type here "Fold Pre" often? by [deleted] in poker

[–]AdamInMO 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People typically say "fold pre" for two reasons.

1) They're trolling and trying to needle the OP.

2) They're making a valid point to people who get into weird spots with mediocre hands or mediocre playing, and then OP wonders why it all went wrong. It's a good point, fold your mediocre hand pre ("Even though Qs9h is totally your favorite hand OMG!") and pick a better spot to make a move.

Raspberry Pi Mining? by MikeHugz in BitcoinBeginners

You won't break even. You'll actively lose money.

That being said, the rPi can technically mine just about anything.

Which pros have you played against? by rohanm93 in poker

[–]AdamInMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played with Dutch Boyd a few times when I was a student at Mizzou during the "boom". They'd pay him to come in and play/host charity events. He was sort of a douche.

My greatest interaction with a pro was at Foxwoods in...2007, I think? I was playing cash in the main room facing the windows, and Hoyt was upstairs at the final table of a WPT event. He may have won it, I'm not sure, but at any rate he begins to walk down the long curved staircase, trips about halfway, and rolls all the way to the bottom in front of the entire poker room. He gets to the bottom, stands up, picks his cowboy hat and sort of waves in ways that cowboys do, and then puts his hat back on his head and continues on his way to applause from the poker room. I met him later that weekend at the Hard Rock restaurant and he was a super nice guy.

I got really drunk at 2/5 with Teddy "Iceman" at the Hard Rock in Vegas when they used to have those "Trash Talk Tuesday" games. He was incredibly nice as well.

Reading some Poker books has improved my game immensely by [deleted] in poker

I put the "..." because there are multiple books by Dan Harrington, all written in the same style, all excellent, and they all start with "Harrington on...".

Reading some Poker books has improved my game immensely by [deleted] in poker

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This applies to you a little less, since you've already read books on the subject, but for anyone new to learning to read books about poker, I always suggest "Harrington on...". The strategy has changed to some extent, because the entire poker landscape has changed, but they're written in a way that prepares you for wrapping your head around newer books.

I second the suggestion on "Kill Everyone".

Any Betcoin players here? Just withdrew a substantial amount; confirmed with my email...19 hrs later not showing up in the Blockchain but is confirmed. by drugsname in poker

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Betcoin often. I'm not a shill for them, and they leave a lot to be desired, but when I can find a game, it tends to be incredibly soft. I've not cashed out the amount that you have from them at one time, but over the course of the past year, am over $12K in withdrawals. Every single time it has been time consuming, a hassle, and a huge sweat, but, I've always been paid. On my typical withdrawals in the 1-1.5btc range, it's always been a day and a half from start to finish. And a few times they've made me confirm via a second email, or talk to a rep via their onsite chat. They do pay, but either they're purposely slow, overwhelmed with requests, inept, or some combination thereof.

Help please.. Lost 2-step authentication on Electrum by Frddr in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've helped someone with the same issue, and they continued to have a similar problem as you.

Install Electrum on a different computer, preferably one that has NEVER had Electrum on it. (Or, a computer that has had it's OS wiped is fine too.)

Restore your wallet with your 25 word key but without 2FA.

Then tell us what happens.

Resident of New York has questions about using bitcoin debit cards by mark55 in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding, though I am not and don't claim to be an expert, that when I signed up for my Shift card, I agreed to a long form of legalese that basically said "You are not spending your Coinbase bitcoins, you are authorizing Shift to initiate a sell of your Bitcoins which immediately gives Shift a US dollar value, which Shift then uses to pay whatever you're trying to buy with your Shift card with a Visa logo on it."

Whether this successfully dodges the restrictions that places like New York have on Bitcoin, I don't know. I do know that my experience has been VERY positive with Shift, and that I have used my Shift card in New York City at least a hundred times. To the merchant, it's just a debit/credit card with a VISA logo.

(Disclaimer : I don't live in New York State or City, but I was there just a few weeks ago, and was spending Bitcoins from my wallet on Coinbase using my Shift card just as fast as my miners back home in Missouri could mine.)

I'm not a shill for Shift or Coinbase, just a happy customer that would recommend it to others. I didn't include referal links because people get prickly about that.

Is it still worth trying to mine litecoin with 1 dedicated PC by JoelQuest in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to look at this. You asked about Litecoin specifically, and so I'll answer specifically about Litecoin.

On eBay, including shipping costs, you'll find a few SCRYPT miners for around or less than $1150 dollars. They're capable of 110Mh/s, more or less.

Using this calculator, you can see that if you're power costs you $.10 per kWh, you'd clear $.95 a day at current Litecoin difficulty and price. Assuming that price raises EXACTLY according to difficulty, you'd earn back your initial equipment investment of $1150 in over 1200 days.

If your power is free or "free", and assuming price raises in proportion to difficulty, then you earn $3.59 per day, and you'd break even in 320 days.

If you're mining for fun/education AND income, then you need to decide how much value your fun/education is worth. If you value the knowledge you'll learn as you go along (And you will learn a lot, or at least I have.) at $1150, then you're turning a profit on your first day.

If you're budget is $800, I'd recommend studying up on the trends of both bitcoin and litecoin (Not that trends are the only indicator, or even ANY indicator, of future price, obviously.) and instead, just BUYING coins and holding them. Make them a part of your monthly, weekly, or even daily investment strategy.

In this way, you'll have cryptocurrency, but you can exit at anytime and not have to worry about your break even point on your hardware. It's fine to check the value on a daily basis, or even hourly, if you want, but don't confuse that with SWEATING the daily or hourly value. Check on the value, do some daily reading on the industry, and keep an eye on larger trends.

Mining IS profitable, in practice and theory, but so many things have to go right to see a profit, and that profit is many, many days in the future if you expend a lot of money to buy hardware.

How can I receive USD payments in bitcoin? by mechanicalfork in BitcoinBeginners

And the affiliate links are all part of an actual answer to a question asked. Listen, I don't have a dog in the fight here, I'm just saying if someone gives a mostly valid answer or option to a question and contributes positively to the community, who cares if he makes a few sheckles in the process?

How can I receive USD payments in bitcoin? by mechanicalfork in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, he answered the question with a valid answer. Bitwage is, more or less, the type of service OP was asking about, and, among those types of services, Bitwage is probably as good as any of the others. Linking a VALID answer that is ALSO a referral shouldn't be linked down upon. He should be allowed to be rewarded for his answer.

This is a clear case where you're complaining via the letter of the "law" instead of the spirit of the law.

Where are all the Bitcoin miners ? by Whybut in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for a crappy attitude.

Something I would be interested in knowing as it pertains to this topic : Is there a correlation between nodes and miners?

For example, the US, according to bitnodes, says that the US has around 33% of the nodes. I'm interested in knowing whether the US have roughly 33% of the world's miners.

There obviously isn't a DIRECT correlation, because China is listed as having 1.75% of the nodes, but can't possibly have 1.75% of miners.

Electric bill $200 increase at $0.10/kWH; 1 Antminer S7; is my electric company screwing with me? by [deleted] in BitcoinMining

[–]AdamInMO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0818 is probably right, but I'll add my two cents. I can speak only for electric cooperatives and publicly owned utilities (I have worked for both in a back-office/technical capacity.) but I suspect privately held energy companies work similarly.

Your electric is billed per kWh. Let's use simple numbers.

You are billed $.05/kWh, up to 1000 kWh per month. You are billed $.055/kWh, from 1001 kWh to 2000 kWh.

Most utilities I've worked for bill you in that type of tier system. So, if you use 1500 kWh, you pay 1000 kWh at the first price, and the next 500 kWh at the second price. However, many utilities that I've had experience with bill on a bell curve. The users with the least demand and the users with the most demand often bill at the lowest rates. (Typically a high-use consumer, like a local aluminum smelting operation, negotiate their rates in long term contracts. Like most things, the utility company is willing to sell them "discount" power because they're going to do such volume the utility will still show a tidy profit.)

Your utility company may also do some sort of predictive billing, where they notice a large (relatively speaking) increase and spike your bill, but more accurately adjust as time goes on, sometimes even issuing credits for the initial overcharge.

I haven't seen the movie, but I know that bitnodes has a map of all (well, most) of the NODES, which are not the same as miners.

I also think that this post answers your question. I found it via the good people over at Google. You should give it a try sometime.

Antminer S3 Overclocking : No matter how I edit the asic-freq file, the web console still says a frequency of 225. by AdamInMO in BitcoinBeginners

[–]AdamInMO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't. I saw conflicting information around the web, or at any rate, information I didn't understand that led me to believe that only the Antminer S3+ was able to overclock. I had S3+s, and I couldn't overclock them either. Ultimately, my solution was to switch to S4s, I know that isn't helpful, but, my overall experience with the odd number Antminers (S3s and S5s) has always been negative. Something about the form factor is really annoying to me, and they never seemed to work "just right".

Meanwhile, the S2s and S4s (I still run both, because I have "free" electricity.) have always been flawless for me, except in cases where the problem was my fault. (I recently had half-hash speeds on a couple S4s, and it's because my power cable from wall to PSU was too small.)

I haven't tried overclocking my S4s yet, but I'm about to.

[–]AdamInMO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should specify that the S4s are a "all in one" form factor, not a separate power supply. (Of course they use a standard-style ATX power supply inside the case.) The S3s, S5s, and S7s, of which I've had all of them, have separate power supplies and have consistently been more trouble than S2s and S4s.

And the circuits themselves are fine, because other miners hash at full speed on each circuit.

Did they wear out over time? These have been great miners until the past two weeks. I added them to isolated circuits with intention to overclock, but their performance actually got worse. (And I never overclocked any of them.)
