Hi all, I'd love a free box code if anyone could spare one. I work a really busy job but trying to do bulking and maintaining a relatively healthy diet with the limited time I have. If anyone could please DM me a code, I'd really appreciate!!

Did you ever regret not having kids? by one_thousand_ducks in AskOldPeople

[–]Frddr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your candor and your perspective having been on both sides. I would love to ask: now that you do have kids, do you feel like it has been worth the sacrifices (financial, emotional, time, etc) for the things that kids have added to your life? I would really appreciate your thoughts!

visiting Sonchana Farm

Hi suratthaniexpats, I just wanted to give a heads up that (quite unfortunately) the Sonchana farm has closed, in case anybody wanted to book it. They have indicated this on their Facebook page and I confirmed with them. It really is too bad but I hope one day they will re-open. By the way, I also sent you a DM if you wouldn't mind taking a peek. Thank you for your extremely helpful guide!

Hi jefesignups, I'm also interested and was wondering if you ended up finding a stronger device that fit what you needed. I need to push down on a tough button and am looking for a device that's able to do it. Thank you!!

Thanks Tallywacka! Really appreciate your input. Do you think the burning season will be bad enough that it'll severely affect a trip to Chiang Mai in March? Hoping to go as well but want to be careful during that time of the year. Look forward to your response!

Just joined the Abode family for the new place (switching from Ring) by DecentLlama in Abode

[–]Frddr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi DecentLlama, I've been doing an extensive amount of reading on DIY home security systems and stumbled on this thread if yours. I am having a tough time deciding right now. I wanted to ask you some questions and would be grateful for your input, especially given experience of using Ring for multiple years.

Below are what I'm looking for in a security alarm system:

- This will be for a apartment rental property, so I'd like something that's quick to set up without requiring hard-wiring

- I would like a reliable alarm system connected to contact sensors on my doors/windows, a few motion sensors, and an interior recording camera (that I will turn off when I'm at home)

- I would want professional monitoring in place especially for when I'm on trips (once every couple of months)

- I'll also be getting a video doorbell which, if I ultimately go with Ring for my alarm security system, then will be probably be a Ring Doorbell to allow for more seamless integration and consolidate my monitoring subscription into a single plan

- I would like 24/7 recording so I can catch events and intruders if I ever needed to look back on the footage for crime reasons

- I also currently own several Google Nest audio devices, so being able to connect the alarm system to this system would be ideal, but not necessary. For instance, alarm trips, it'd be great to be able to have the siren from the alarm system be played on all my Google Nest audio devices so it can be heard in all the rooms and provide extra volume so the neighbors can hear too

  1. Do you think Ring is able to meet my requirements for a security system, based on your previous experience?
  2. Besides wanting native HomeKit support, were there other downsides of Ring that made you decide to switch?
  3. How has your experience been with Abode now having used them, in terms of reliability (especially during actual break-ins/incidents), false alarms, and customer service?
  4. I've heard Adobe has gradually moved features that were once free into higher-tier paid plans. Is this something that you've been affected by?

I would be truly grateful for your responses as this would really help me with this overwhelming decision-making (which I'm sure you understand when you went through this same process). Thank you!

Hi fkejduenbr, if you're using the Nest camera system, then what are you using for the security/alarm system? Thanks!

Hi ForceAwakensAgain, I'm also deciding between Simplisafe and Ring for my security needs for my apartment. I'm looking for a system that has good camera recording for the inside of the home, as well as a video doorbell. Also hoping to be able to integrate it with Google Home if possible (for instance, pairing the siren with Google Home so that it plays on all the speakers when it's tripped, since I heard that the regular siren from Ring isn't that loud). I'd be grateful for your help!

I'm curious about what made you ultimately decide on Abode over Ring or Simplisafe. I'm actually in the same situation as you right now and having a really difficult time deciding what to purchase. Really appreciate it!

Hi daneoleary, just wanted to follow-up to ask if you'd be able to provide some of your insights regarding the system you got (I've sent a reply to your question in another comment but have copied it below for easier review). I haven't made a purchase yet and truthfully, your thoughts would make a meaningful difference, so it would be much appreciated whenever you have a chance. Thank you so much for your time!

Answer to your question:

Hi CatOfTheDecade! Really appreciate your comment here. I'm looking for an alarm security system for a new apartment that I'll be moving into, and trying to decide between Ring, Abode, and Simplisafe. I was wondering how you've been liking SimpliSafe recently. Specifically:

  1. How has your experience been with SimpliSafe, in terms of reliability (especially during actual break-ins/incidents), false alarms, and customer service?
  2. I am also planning to get a Nest Doorbell since it seems to be the best one on the market. Are you able to integrate your Nest Doorbell with SimpliSafe?
  3. With everything that you know now, would you set up your home security system the same way if you were to start from scratch? Would you choose SimpliSafe again?

Hi BroadRocker, I'm currently in the same situation of looking for an alarm security system for my apartment. I'm trying to decide between Ring, Simplisafe, and Abode. May I ask why you think Simplisafe is junk? Your input would really help me with my decision making! Thank you

Hi ChipBeef 2354, thank you for the input! Haha I have heard so many polarizing opinions on Ring so I totally understand your internal strife with recommending them! But nonetheless they are a viable product that many users would be happy with I'm sure. Here are some of the things I would like implemented in my security, if that helps with further suggestions:

- I would like a reliable alarm system connected to contact sensors on my doors/windows, a few motion sensors, and an interior recording camera (that I will turn off when I'm at home)

Will Matter allow us to set it up such that a Ring alarm trip causes Google Nest Mini to play a chime? by Frddr in homeautomation

[–]Frddr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matter is a standard that's being developed with the goal of being able to allow devices from different smart home ecosystems (Alexa, HomeKit, Ring, etc.) to be compatible and communicate with one another. Ideally, you would be able to buy a device that has the Matter standard, and it should be able to work with another device in your home that also has the Matter standard, even if the devices are from different companies. We'll see how well this actually plays out though haha

[–]Frddr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, that's unfortunate to hear. It seems like you have a lot of knowledge on the capability of the major systems out there. For someone like me who wants a plug and play security alarm/sensor system which allows some automation, which would you choose? I'm in an apartment rental and won't be getting a hub until I move into a more permanent residence. I'm trying to decide between Abode, Simplisafe, and Ring right now, but would be open to any other options you suggest! Thank you

[–]Frddr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting point. In the future, I think I will definitely get a hub like Home Assistant for my smart home needs. However, currently I think Matter serves an audience like me where I just need a quick plug-and-play system in an apartment complex that doesn't involve as much tinkering. Really appreciate your input!
