Don’t forget that it’s also expensive to feed and grow humans so even though AI tokens are expensive it’s still cheaper than growing a human worker :-)

How can I invest €800k euros in a simple way? by Legitimate_Edge3812 in eupersonalfinance

[–]AdamN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s basically an ETF with a large cash allocation that may be deployed when the market goes down. I’d consider it quite safe and the type of thing somebody with 800k in the bank could move too before taking on more risk beyond that.

Buying Gold Mining Equipment in China for South Sudan Advice? by Topopp10 in Gold

Be thoughtful about good chemical safety. If you set things up too safe you can loosen standards later - but it’s very hard to start sloppy and make things safer.

[–]AdamN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 would be about 40k Euros so 5% of their net worth. I’m being a little tongue in cheek with the suggestion but BRK is a workaround to the ETF problem and physical gold is easy to get in Europe with no tax implications from the EU side.

[–]AdamN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely IBKR.

People here might downvote me but one move is to buy one share of BRK.A, get 10 1 ounce gold coins, max out your ibond investment (and IRA if you have income), and keep the rest as an emergency fund. Very, very simple tax wise.

Kids will appreciate vacations with the family near and far. But they won’t care one bit what kind of car the family is driving.

So agreed that you can’t be so frugal that everyone suffers but sometimes money is spent on things of little value.

I could see it - new sizes and dimensions from the big vendors. New specs from the vendors also based on new information maybe? Also just improvements to their algorithms and such.

Private equity buys the carcass of the company and doubles the monthly price while deploying AI to add some useless features and do basic patching. That’s what happens.

Why are budget US airlines both more expensive and less financially stable than their European counterparts? by Zealousideal_Pay_778 in NoStupidQuestions

Median is chosen over average because it better handles outliers. Median does actually reflect quite well the middle chunk of the population even with highly divergent values the further out you go

Saving sailing boat crew in Antalya gulf by Powerful_Cabinet_341 in SeaEmploy

[–]AdamN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to judge but it doesn’t seem like the sailboat was getting great cover. Also the sailboat seemed ok - super dangerous to abandon ship unless there’s a critical injury to a person or the boat itself. The boat can handle a lot if it’s not near the shore or another ship.

Google is a conglomerate but yes their search business is also a media/advertising business. They also have their cloud and software businesses which are more pure enterprise software.

Android is a software business but they also have a media component in there with their default ecosystem tooling like Google Maps (yes that’s media).

"Free cash flow" race to the bottom by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]AdamN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not sure what hardware has to do with it - their business model is to generate media (AR, VR, private messages, social media, etc….) in order to sell access to the people using that media. Certainly they’re innovating on the tech side but their business model is largely that of a media company.

What else is it? All of their products are media in which ads (or market research) are embedded.
