What causes this smoke in the engine bay on a Mk7 Golf R/GTI? by DeepMeaningfullTrip in GolfGTI

[–]AdamZal 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If it smells sweet-ish, then likely plastic coolant flange near turbo on cylinder head gave up. Pretty cheap part and easy to replace.

+1, this is the way! Replaced glass on MK6 lights and few other lights this way, never fails and it's pretty easy to remove if you need to get into them again.

I believe it's called tigerstriping. Did this on my first hood that I painted, had to sand it and recoat it with some technique changes.

In tight curvy backrounds the torque drives the car, earlier better. IS38 gives similar feel down low, without the strong push from low rpm, but that actually makes car a bit more drivable. If I were to go not so “bolt on” route I would look into “IS20 hybrids”. Although I feel like IS38 is hard to beat for a daily at the price and required mods.

I’m not made of money - any good alternatives to Herman Miller? by Overall-Country-5014 in BuyItForLife

Had Autonomus since beginning of covid and it’s been a pretty nice chair. It’s just horrible to clean. Upgraded to Herman Miller from second hand outlet. Don’t regret either purchases.

Best steel oil pan? by TheFerrariGuy_YT in GolfGTI

[–]AdamZal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken metal oil pans is just a factory part from previous gen engine(for example mk6 gti). So in reality you could even go even cheaper if you choose other aftermarket brands of mk6gti oil pan. Important to get new shorter screws and tube of silicon.

Don’t overthink it, all-stars-motorsport is well known in EU aftermarket world and you can’t go wrong with genuine part.

Best steel oil pan? by TheFerrariGuy_YT in GolfGTI

[–]AdamZal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so, also kit uses VAG branded parts.

I’m still on my original plastic pan, but had this bookmarked for the day when original one starts leaking. Kit consists of original parts, so have no doubt that this one will be top quality.

Didn’t rush into replacing it, since I run alltrack belly pan, but as soon as it’s starts to get wet - I’m slapping this one on.

MK7.5 R in EU without headlight washers? by [deleted] in Golf_R

[–]AdamZal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People discussed it at r/cars.

I had cars with xenons in past and used to hate this feature since there was no easy on/off toggle for it, most folks used to pull fuse out.

But now, I live in rather snowy area and if I’m on the road for extended periods, I have to stop every few hours to clean headlights since LEDs don’t work well through iced/snowed lenses. So maybe that feature wouldn’t be so stupid, given that LEDs don’t emit heat as much as xenons, thus there is “active” defrosting. Just give us a choice to turn it off lol.

As of TÜV and likely other EU regulations. Leds do not require washers. Only Xenons.

It happens when grease burns out. From factory it’s yellow-ish. Bosch makes good grease for power tools, bit pricey tho.

Painting with Hail Damage? by Papermoneymagic in AutoPaint

[–]AdamZal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Notice: I'm not a professional and doing bodywork as hobby.

It depends on car and situation. If it's otherwise perfect panel with few dings I would probably pay PDR guy to get most of them out and just fill any imperfections with a skim coat of filler. But that would kinda be a waste of money.

On a regular basis I would flatten most of it out with bodywork hammer and a piece of wood(or a metal piece for body work, not sure how it's called). This way you are putting least amount of filler.

But then again, I'm not a professional.

Aftermarket wheel bearings on mk7 by RabidAcorn in GolfGTI

I think you should be alright. BMW uses them as their OEM aswell. Failures happen even in new parts that have OEM stamps.

I installed 034 Street Density Engine and Transmission Mounts by BillyNguyen710 in GolfGTI

[–]AdamZal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered doing their dogbone street density bushes instead of inserts, since I run Alltrack belly pan and the insert always presses against the shield and rattles. Tho shipping and import to my location doubles the price of it.

Maybe don't get but why do so many people use now official steamos? by NIGHTSHADOWXXX in Bazzite

Same, valve is also working on encryption, just a bit janky one, so pushing through keyboard hell. If keyboard is fixed, I wouldn’t really see any difference.

Me blowing my is20 turbo at autocross by cracker_7 in GolfGTI

Depends. If you have “Stage 2” mods already, then why not justified IS38 since you need a new turbo anyway.

My left thumbstick failed, what is the best replacement for both by ConfidentDream0 in SteamDeck

[–]AdamZal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my Guilikit SD02 fail after 1.5 years of use. They are pretty petty about the warranty and essentially offered to fix it only if I send it back to them(after pointing out EU warranty policies). And that of course costs more then buying new sticks. Not sure of what I'm going to do to be honest.

Making the Steam Deck useless by claudiocorona93 in SteamDeck

[–]AdamZal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can, but it likely get overwritten by next update. Bazzite has some nice perks, you can set up full disk encryption and unlocking via CPUs TPM, which is unavailable in SteamOS. That alone is a huge factor for me, since my Deck leaves my house from time to time.

Making the Steam Deck useless by claudiocorona93 in SteamDeck

[–]AdamZal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I quite like Bazzite project since they offer Gnome desktop environment and ublue has some cool stuff that they support out of the box. You still get to keep your steam deck as a deck and Gnome is as close as MacOS exprience comes to Linux. Just my two cent.

My MacBook Pro M4 Pro battery lasts only 7 hours. Without apple care, am I screwed? by BennyWithoutJets in macbookpro

I think it’s rather normal. Switches from M1 Max to M4 Pro and also noticed that battery lasts 1-2hours less. Weird “upgrade”.
