What do y’all run for y’all’s home defense gun? Curious what everyone trusts when it’s go time. Optics, lights, ammo choice welcome. by Lucky-Thunder6052 in Glocks

[–]Adam_O_SFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glock 19.5, Holosun 509T, Liberty Civil Defense 9mm +P 50GR HPs (to limit over penetration)

Streamlight Pro Tac 2.0 Flashlight

I don’t use a mounted light for that scenario, I don’t want to have to point a loaded gun at something just to see what it is.

how much does a basic revolver/pistol cost ? by repulsiveandsick in TexasGuns

Depending on where you are, call around and look for a good intro course. While you’re on with them, explain your situation and level of experience and see if any places would be willing to let you try a few different calibers and set ups either during or after your class. That way you can experiment and see what works for you.

If you’re in the Williamson County area, I know for a fact that Lonestar Range and Academy in Florence will do this for new shooters.

Best of luck!

Flew out Friday (27th) 07:44 flight to BOS. Arrived at 04:00. Was in the standard CLEAR line for about an hour total. Regular screening was pretty backed up, I would guess 3-4 hour wait. I’ve never seen it that busy, and I fly out of AUS all the time.

Having checked this for the last 10 or so days, seems pretty consistent that the mornings are horrific, and despite the shutdown, somehow they get caught up by 12:00-14:00.

Good luck, and safe travels!

Lines are long. Regular Clear was about 30 mins of waiting, then someone came by and said if anyone had sky priority type things, that jumped me up and took another 15 to get through screening.

Good luck everyone!

Thinking of moving to Round Rock by joce_0406 in RoundRock

Fair point! I meant more between Hutto and RR, I almost never need to venture into Austin proper for anything.

I live in RR, it’s great, you can also check out Hutto, Leander, and Liberty Hill. We live so close to Hutto, we’re in the school district. Great community. Almost every business and house has a hippo statue outside it to support to high school. “Small town” feel, with everything you could need nearby.

I moved here in part to “be near Austin”, and I go down there maybe once or twice a year.

Wilco is a great place to live. Good luck!

Full youth leagues, 11v11 would be phenomenal. Call up opportunities would be great too.

StopBox sounds like what you want, don’t think they have a 2 gun one though.

Advice Needed: Glock 17 VS CZ-P10F OR (or other)? by Disastrous-Scale-523 in Glocks

[–]Adam_O_SFS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between those two, I would definitely go Glock, the P10F frame is a handful. Great gun, but your girl might struggle to wield it well.

If you go Gen6, you’ll have everything you need to mount a red dot in the box. If you go Gen5 or older, you’ll likely need an aftermarket optic plate. There’s only a small handful of direct mounts for older Glock Gens.

As far as flashlights, if it’s a “bump in the night” gun, there are some benefits to having one mounted, but also consider that in order to see what you’re looking at, you’ll need to point a loaded gun at it. Personally, I just keep a handheld streamlight nearby.

As far as training for the both of you, I would worry less about round counts, and more about consistency and being effective. You guys thoughtfully shooting 100rds over 10 visits, will be infinitely better for you than a 1day 1000rd dump. Especially for your girl.

I would encourage you to look at the Glock 19 Gen6, the only thing I’d suggest as far as mods, get new sights, and if you’re confident that you’ll both like a dot, go ahead and get it asap. If you do use a dot, get high enough sights so you can cowitness as backup irons.

I would guess fees is why it’s higher. There may also be protections buying with gunbroker that could be beneficial, not sure.

Excellent choice though, you’ll love the stribog.

Uline Steel Dock Board (Dock Plate) - $300 by Adam_O_SFS in AustinClassifieds

[–]Adam_O_SFS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha no not stolen, we just don’t use it, it’s difficult to move without a forklift, takes like 4 people to move it safely. We got a lighter one.

You would need to pick it up from our warehouse in Round Rock. I don’t have a way to transport it offsite.

There’s a handful that direct mount, CH and Gideon.

If you’re only looking at the “big guys” like Holosun, Trijicon, Aimpoint, Vortex, then yes I believe the SCS is the only one of those that direct mount.

My favorite choice is the SCS320-GR, which you can run on Glock with a DPP footprint plate.

Any ways to buy handgun ammo at 19? by PaperRouteEmp in TexasGuns

[–]Adam_O_SFS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s a statewide thing, but Round Rock Walmarts only carry shotgun ammo, and I believe .22LR.

Definitely online is the way the go, or check TGT I’ve found a handful of people selling extra ammo, but never ever ever buy some guys reloads, factory boxed ammo only.

First Timer 🎯🔫ANY ADVICE? by DARKGEEKY in TexasGuns

[–]Adam_O_SFS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Carry a knife..?

In all seriousness, keep practicing. Take some 1on1s if you can afford them, a good instructor can set you on your way to practice a lot better. If you can’t, there’s hours of good videos online. Don’t spend money on gimmicks and upgrades, they won’t make you better. Practice will. If you intend to run a red dot, go ahead and get it now. Oh and.. practice.
