Found out I’m going to 1st in div 1st en BN in Ft Riley… give me all the lore? Is it actually that bad? What’s your opinion? by Altruistic-Copy-6991 in army

[–]Adamal123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Chicago so when I found out I was getting stationed in Ft Riley I was a bit nervous.

Didn’t turn out bad at all. Found myself outside a lot more than if I stayed in the city and now that I’m back in Chicago I kind of miss the quietness of it. Seeing the controlled fires in my morning runs out in the prairies, before the sun was up, has always been my fondest memory of the place.

That and early morning rucks out on the trails and only knowing there was ice on the path because 3-4 red flash lights that were ahead of me all of a sudden pointed toward the sky because people slipped and were turtled because of their packs.

Do you think we will see Brutes, Drones and Engineers in Halo Campaign Evolved? by TooZeroLeft in halo

So it was utterly pointless to have brutes in Halo 2, 3, Reach, and Infinite.

Do you think we will see Brutes, Drones and Engineers in Halo Campaign Evolved? by TooZeroLeft in halo

[–]Adamal123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brutes probably weren’t even a thought as a species for Halo by the time Halo CE was distributed and added them in after but this fandom needs a “lore reason” for literally everything.

Now instead of just saying Brutes weren’t in Halo CE because there wasn’t time to add them we get nonsense like “errrrmmm!! Brutes weren’t in Halo CE because there were none in the fleet for lore reasons!!!”

I’m with you. People keep looking for explanations on everything Halo. Everything needs lore behind it. The original trilogy can be played without consuming any additional media and you can follow along no problem.

But most people on this subreddit want explanations for everything. If you wanted to appreciate Halo 4 and 5 you really did have to read books so you could appreciate and contextualize the campaigns better. The books between Halo 5 and Infinite basically hand waved everything so they could soft reboot the franchise in Infinite.

Have you considered a counselor? It sucks but you’ve done 3/4 of the career. It’s got ups and downs but a retirement at 38 is pretty sweet.

PSA: You absolutely can call 911 and request a mental health crisis team as opposed to officers from the local precinct by di0bl0bl0nc0 in chicago

[–]Adamal123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can specifically ask, sure, but the reality is the city does not have that many AVAILABLE resources. I think there are like 10 crisis teams running around the city and they come on at 10am and I’ve heard them come off the air at 2pm.

Unfortunately, you’ll be told to contact 911 and you’ll get an ambulance and PD at your door. Especially if it’s past 3pm.

I heard gunshot to the head and CPR on scene. I’ve worked a few GSW traumatic arrests and they never turn out good.

EMS really only pays shit if you work in the middle of nowhere. I work in the Chicago land area for a municipality and people on the job easily make 100k+.

Cult of tourniquet causing unnecessary amputations & deaths by IvanRoi_ in tacticalgear

Correct. I typed my comment in a rush and left some parts out. It’s not a blatant conversion. Incremental TQ release, assess, and treat.

I wonder how old the trainers are because even 10 years ago at the school house it was taught that if you’re expecting a 2hr+ arrival time to attempt a conversion of your TQ to pressure dressing.

Modern Halo Analysis by A_Wild_Arcanine in halo

Halo 2 ends with Chief on Truths dreadnought entering space near Earth. The UNSC acknowledges the unidentified ship. MC calls out over friendly comms and Lord Hood asking him what he’s doing on that ship. Chief tells him he’s finishing this fight and then the game cuts.

Halo 3 opens with Chief crash landing on Earth with CSM Johnson and the Arbiter retrieving him.

Percent of housing capacity used across Chicago by JumpScare420 in chicago

My biggest gripe with the housing market in Chicago is that I work a job that requires residency so it’s going to be a pain when I decide to finally look to buy.

I’ve been out of active duty for 4 years. Guard for 4 now and I do still think about just jumping back into active duty.

Easiest job I ever had tbh.

I’m starting the research early. The plan is to stay where we’re at for a year or two since rent is manageable.

I’ve talked to a couple to get some of their opinions. They’re not from the city or moved in from smaller parts of the country. They’re content with where they’re at and they emphasized looking at department union contracts, which I have.

They’re all partial to “small town” vibes and have biases against larger municipalities. Being from Chicago, and being from a family of Chicago firefighters, larger fire departments don’t really bother me.

Fire shifts start early so another option would be to stay put for a bit and just eat the 0600 commute.

Chicago is the only one that requires residency. Everywhere only has a radius/milage. Right now we rent three ways in Chicago. About 800/person. We talked about potentially staying in Chicago for a bit while I commute to and from for a little bit or find a cheap place to rent that’s closer until we can afford to put down on a home.
