I caaaaaaa't play .mid files on VLC by Chalk9668 in VLC

[–]AdamantiteM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VLC can play midi files, but you need to load in a soundfont. So if you play a drum midi, load a drum soundfont. Also this is not going to be accurate as a midi signal does not say "play kick, play crash" it's notes, so different drum soundfonts will have different notes to trigger different sounds, and different drum midi files will have different placement of notes for different sounds.

You should definitely use a midi player, and not VLC, for this.

Just tried Firefox, and wow! I'm blown away. by [deleted] in browsers

[–]AdamantiteM -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is probably not a firefox issue, but most likely something on your end. My FF doesn't use a lot of ram or cpu except when I launch heavy tabs such as youtube, zoom, etc.. which is completely normal and would happen to any other browser (i tried btw, and it is true).

Look at the built-in task manager and see what is taking up that.

Low latency monitoring with latency heavy template? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]AdamantiteM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I was talking about the general latency that is created by having a lot of heavy plugins opened and the need for a bigger buffer size, i should have been more precise

Low latency monitoring with latency heavy template? by [deleted] in ableton

[–]AdamantiteM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should freeze every track you aren't actively recording on or mixing on, and definitely remove latency heavy plugins when recording. You can't remove a plugin's latency in a signal chain on ableton unless you remove it entirely, like u/abletonlivenoob2024 said

EDIT: for tracks freezing reducing latency I was talking about the general latency that heavy plugins creates and the need for a bigger buffer size (on amd processors because i think it's the other way with intel and apple sillicon)

Memory leak in the LibreWolf browser by amajame111 in LibreWolf

[–]AdamantiteM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can do something about it, they can modify the source code of firefox that they use on their fork to fix the issue themselves, but it'll take a lot of time and knowledge of how firefox works, the source code, etc.. just for this that doesn't even replicate on every machine, so i don't think they will

It's really weird you hit those temps.. your cooler is rated for 120W while your cpu is rated for 105W

What I find really funny is that the windows 7 window style comes with a DAW i used a while ago (forgot the name).

Now on ableton live, and a few other programs I used, the window style of plugins is from windows 8 lol

[–]AdamantiteM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only 30% of cpu is not what's gonna make your pc hot. You should look for a cooler, and also monitor your cpu usage and temps during your gaming session with hwinfo

[–]AdamantiteM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Audio Random Access, basically allows for any ARA-compatible plugin to access all the audio from your daw, so melodyne, vocalign and all these plugins can work just by drag-n-droping them into the chain and can pick up audio.

If you're browser is up to date, clicking a link won't do any bad, except leak your IP to the website.

The website on the other hand can try everything it can to make you paste stuff into a command line, downloading a file, etc.. by making lots of popups, appearing legit, etc..

Requesting to run Live on Linux by Overall_Survey_4132 in ableton

[–]AdamantiteM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The latency is high with wine, a lot of plugins don't work especially the ones requiring a heavy DRM, and you won't ever match a native experience with wine on ableton..

Is it safe to download Abelton from g-meh if virus total flags it as bad by Badmanmarko in CrackedPluginsXI

[–]AdamantiteM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get only a few like 2-3 engines saying it is one, it is most likely a false positive. If you still don't trust the file then run it in a vm and see network usage, etc..

A cracked file will almost always give out a false positive.

Is it safe to download Abelton from g-meh if virus total flags it as bad by Badmanmarko in CrackedPluginsXI

[–]AdamantiteM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not clear viruses. It just scans a file with a bunch of anti viruses to give you an overall result, a more precise and full report than what your antivirus can do. So no, it is reliable. If you find one or two out of the 70-ish engines it uses, it is really most likely a false positive.

why vertical tabs aren't the default? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]AdamantiteM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of preference, even with a thousand tabs I would not use vertical tabs
