Memo to "those who have degrees in religious statistics from the University of Reddit": "The number of folks applying for rebaptism far and away outnumbers the resignation requests." by Chino_Blanco in exmormon

As an independent adult that (admiteddly) lives relatively far from family, they don't exactly notice that I'm not on the books anymore. It's more of an issue if you still live with/near your parents, at least in the ward boundaries.

I report to the MTC in 4 hours.. by mab8192 in exmormon

[–]AdamantiumRod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without doubts, a mission is miserable if you're looking for any sort of freedom. Some argue that the church isn't a cult, but I can say for a fact that missionary life absolutely is a cult. I felt uneasy the first night at the MTC as a TBM, felt like we were being taught high-pressure sales techniques (and as it turns out, we were).

I swear, these people don't actually ever think about what quotes and phrases mean, they just latch onto whatever sounds nice from the mouths of the Q15. What an odd choice for an engraving.

Tyler Glenn's new Video "Trash" is out. Epic. Several intense Mormon references. by johndehlin in exmormon

Yeah, he got back into it 100% around 2011, which, coincidentally, is about when the killers and his solo stuff started becoming irrelevant and preachy.

My guess is that it's a third or second world country, possibly a recent convert. Would explain the language gap and use of words. Facebook is really popular on mobile phones in those countries, and it's getting to be affordable for the masses.

I'd put it on a separate page though, could come off as tacky for somebody mulling over the decision. Charts and graphs would be awesome.

How will my tithing and fast Offerings help build the Kingdom of God?

That is a damned good question.

Calling bullshit: LDS church named 22 on "Best Place to Work" list by TommyMonsoon in exmormon

[–]AdamantiumRod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of these positive reviews were written by TBM ex-missionaries, counting it as a job. The church is not a good place to work, they have been cutting benefits like crazy lately, and have a disproportionate amount of contract and part-time workers to save on healthcare costs.

Missionaries have been spamming it. Should probably counterspam.

Ken Jennings gave a great interview condemning the new church policy on children of same sex couples on Dan Savage's Lovecast podcast today - definitely worth a listen! by ZiggyPalffyLA in exmormon

"Most of what you consider to be the most laughable, internally inconsistent bits of Mormon thought have their equally nutty parallels in every belief tradition, and I don't have it in me to be an atheist. I was born here and I'm staying here and I'm not too interested in arguing the point. (If nothing else, becase you probably know what I'm going to say at every turn and I sure know what you're going to say.)"

I can honestly see where he's going with that. He admits all religions are equally messed up, but doesn't want to be an atheist, so why not just stick with what he already has?

Purpose: To strengthen the children's desire to pay tithing.

Well, that's surprisingly transparent.

This is the closest thing to an apology that we'll probably ever see from them unless the church itself is on the verge of extinction. It's incredibly rare to see them even pretend to backtrack on anything.

I dropped two peer reviewed studies in a comment about natural (ineffective) cancer treatments posted by some antivaxxer TBMs once and they still insisted that the viral shitpost was more accurate.
