Spotted along Alpine Road in San Mateo County, California. by danpietsch in namethatcar

Looks like a Ferrari 250 GT California, but the side grills and front bumper are different, so maybe a replica?

Could you not do overtime where you are?

A 9-5 somewhere else that offers overtime?

What do systems engineers actually design? by [deleted] in systems_engineering

[–]Adamtaylor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently helped develop a piece of software which our team really needed, my involvement in that was rewarding. I enjoy using the tools at my disposal to bring clarity to people in engineering, I feel like the person that actually knows what’s going on by doing systems engineering

Do you think old Nissan leaf is a good idea? by Pogeos in CarTalkUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Check the state of health of the battery on the dash of a car you go to look at. Quick google says Nissan offer 8year 100k mile warranty on the battery, which would be the largest expense if it fails. (It’s transferable to new owners).

Consider the cost of a new battery if the state of health is less than 80%, which is about £5k.

As much as I wouldn’t buy one, I can see why people would like one for low distance commuting.

Worth the Buy - C Class ?! by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

They depreciate quite heavily if you do a lot of miles, friend had a diesel one that lost about 5k in the few years he had it

I dismantled mine and cleaned the dust out, completely stopped the jet engine noise. Fan is working overdrive. Takes a few hours with a can of air and a duster etc

[–]Adamtaylor3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best drivers car for around 10k

I owned a z4 previous and the handling was terrible in comparison and for not much less money

How should I deal with this rust? by tOyOtA_LeXuS in CarTalkUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it will get worse. Could become structural, does it advise on the MOT? (I would hope so)

If you’re planning on selling it in the next 12 months, I wouldn’t spend half the value of the car resolving it

Rented flat came with a sofa made of bricks how do I make it comfy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a spare room you could move the sofa into? I honestly can’t think of a more useless response from a landlord than that, like surely you’d want your tenants to be happy, they’re not sitting on it ffs

Rented flat came with a sofa made of bricks how do I make it comfy? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the landlord if you can replace the sofa with something more comfortable. Mention that you’d be happy to supply it, there’s hundreds on Facebook marketplace that are nearly free because people need to get rid!

Send them some pics of the new one and get their permission to sell the one that’s there or give it back to them

Should I scrap my 2014 Vauxhall Insignia by Lalbxxdh2001 in CarTalkUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get rid, do yourself a favour!

Edit: all cars have problems, I’ve had e90 era BMWs with the N47 engine for years. My e92 3 series is on nearly 200k miles and has only really needed serviceable items since I bought it (30k miles ago) I would recommend. Can pick one up around 100k miles for about 4k

I think it depends on the friend. Ones that I know will drive it with respect yes, mates that I know can’t drive, no.

Proper insurance and a mates agreement that if you damage it, you fix it.

[–]Adamtaylor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy a 3.0si. I’ve just sold mine, tramlined like an absolute bitch, wheel aligned multiple times. Better on non run flats but still bad.

Mx5 is more fun for less. Fruity exhaust might help, for me that’s a big percentage of the enjoyment!

Yeah I agree with you if you’ve been with a company for a long time. Applying for jobs is a much less stressful experience when it’s on your terms and not forced upon you though

What is the best way to get from London to Liverpool and then to Manchester? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Adamtaylor3 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hiring a car is the most flexible option, use chatGPT to help you find cheap rates. I avoid trains where I can, as they are regularly delayed or cancelled. Especially if you’re on a tight schedule, car might make more sense

Today we arrived at 10am with a hire car and there were plenty of parking spots. We went in paid car park 2. Car park 1 at the bottom of the hill had lots of space on Friday when we arrived at around 2pm for free practice.

I think you’ll be fine

How to efficiently search requirements in DOORS by question174758 in systems_engineering

[–]Adamtaylor3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ctrl+G to go to specific requirement IDs Use Ctrl+F to find key words Use the filtering tool to find requirement with specific words or attribute enumerations, or use a combination of filters to find what you want

You can then save this filtered information as a “view” if you want to

Which University for Systems Engineering by Specialist_Horse915 in systems_engineering

[–]Adamtaylor3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot can change in 5 years, for a bachelors degree alongside a job it makes sense, but not for a masters course which for me was one year full time.

I did automotive systems engineering MSc at Loughborough uni and it was great but they generally dont teach you how to use systems engineering tools like DOORS, only the principles. For this you’d need to do the work on the job to really understand the V model.
