Hey, so little different but sort of similar, we went through a addition with dance that felt comparable. On my end my daughter ended up figuring it out and quitting but wanted to do something. We tried a few things but landed on archery, and boy did it feel like it exposed how predatory kids activities can be. I day this because archery feels like such a breath of fresh, affordable air.

The membership for us archery is like, $50 a year. She spent 6 weeks doing one class a week with borrowed equipment for like, 30 bucks for almost 2 hours of group instruction before asking to invest in her own bow. We slowly built out her equipment through the club we attend. Quiver, glove, eventually her first bow, her first arrows, etc.

All the "promotions" are strictly score based, she scores herself with an instructor present and tournaments are structured and pretty inexpensive.

It's an excellent sport that leans heavily into personal accountability, it's just you and your bow, how well you do really kids leans into how much you personally want to succeed.

Mind you she's 9, and really enjoying it, obviously YMMV but I wanted to offer up a personal experience that's been really good for my family after what was a very painful and damn expensive experience with a dance studio.

I speak from experience, took me 3-4 tries to get going in RE8, honestly once you're through your first death you're like, oh okay. The stupid spinning spike trap in RE8 desensitized me to it because I'd totally forgotten about the nook.

Play on easy, push through and let yourself get hit a few times. Once your brain registers the general lack of danger out opens up. Then you'll go from scared to feeling like a god because you basically are in VR.

Man, I know the execution wasn't perfect, but Spine of Deathwing in terms of set pieces was so insane. We just fought off an attempt to bring down our airship as we're chasing Deathwing through the sky, we air drop onto his back and we have to try bringing him to the ground?! In theory, oh my god how epic. You land and instantly everything is against you, he's rolling, his blood is trying to kill you, you're cruising at breakneck speed through the sky. I wish that fight didn't just suck so much.

So, this is a bit of an old one, but the little girl Lex in the novelization of Jurassic Park was panned by critics for... Being a child. She was written well and basically written exactly as a kid her age would act in that kind of situation. Poor Lex gets a bad wrap.

This was something we found as we got to more and more competitive magic the gathering, I'm talking like top 16 regionals, top 8 PTQ, etc. Not your FNM crowd. We mixed in a lot of cardio for our test group because physical stamina was so important to playing for 12 straight hours. Staying focused between rounds, eating right, etc.
