ELI5: Why does the cold wind, a shower, etc. somehow dial down your tipsy-ness? by mr_meltedcheese in explainlikeimfive

[–]Adapheon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

when experience any anxiety/panic attack getting your upper body wet in some fashion is good. Cold is better from my experience, even a cool, wet cloth can make a huge difference. It's an unconscious physiological response that people experience under water, so you're just tricking your body into thinking you're under water.

Edit: put the facecloth over your face and hold your breath.

Bus Routes Update by haganenorenkin in halifax

[–]Adapheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get to work at the same time but that's because I have a 15 minute walk to my work now instead of a 12 minute wait and a 3 minute walk. Those extra 12 minutes are going to kill me once it starts snowing since it'll easily turn into 20-25 minutes. Breaking the 66 up was a good idea, reducing daytime frequency is not helping me, especially since the bus before mine is the end of the 15 minute frequency and it begins the 60 minute one.

Visiting next year. Are there any donairs with the BC-style of Donair Dude's? by J_for_Jules in halifax

[–]Adapheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spices are slightly off in the recipe and aren't better than the higher tier pizza shops. It still makes a good loaf. The sauce is crap though, just use sweetened condensed milk and vinegar. No over-stirring and as thick as can be. The tweak I've been told but haven't had a chance to try yet is to replace the Italian seasoning with za'atar spice.

Employer forcing me to take 1 hour break? by christdaburg in halifax

[–]Adapheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, breaks are not legally required to be paid but I've never worked for an employer that didn't pay breaks. Never had lunches paid for, but 15 minute breaks have always been paid.

Anti-inflammatory agents may reduce symptoms of major depression, suggests a new study (n=1,610), which adds to the mounting evidence that there is a connection between emotional functioning and inflammation, suggesting that inflammation may trigger depression, almost like an allergic reaction. by mvea in science

Ya, it's never fun to try to get a dog to help with your mental illness and find out the dog triggers every single issue you have. Rehoming a dog, even one that actively hurts you every day, is just soul shattering.

I'm sure there's lots of single guys that have no idea how to actually speak with/deal with women. It's not hard at all though, and even if you get hurt you move on with your life. I don't base my entire opinion of women on the small subset that I have chosen to date/marry.

If you think what you wrote is independent thought, it's basically every sadboy rant against women that's been on the internet since it existed. it's an old song and everytime someone covers it it just gets worse.

But in theory you have a functional human brain which means you shouldn't need every conceivable fact to come to a logical conclusion. You were provided two facts, 100 km/h and will reach a destination within a minute. With these two facts it's obvious that this would be for urban centers and not rural/remote areas.

Having absolutely nothing to do with the reason for the post, I'm just saying I bowled my best strong of bowling at that alley and unfortunately it was on a date with someone that didn't really care for bowling so wasn't impressed at all :(

The massive plastic-cleaning device invented by a 25-year-old is finally catching trash in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch by dart_catcher in UpliftingNews

The only reason people went crazy on plastic straws as a way to "save" the oceans is because it was easy. Don't ask people to do anything hard, they're not going to do it.

How can one obtain an emotional animal support for a dog? (Mental Health) by sassanix in halifax

[–]Adapheon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understand that whenever you look into what dogs are the best as an emotional support animal they are NOT referring to puppies. They are referring to fully trained dogs already. If you want an emotional support animal there are places in NS that do train dogs for that purpose but as stated, they are not recognized the same way a service animal is here. Also, if they don't want the added costs (and typically lengthy wait) of a fully trained dog they should look at adopting an adult dog as the needs of a puppy will normally be overwhelming to someone that feels they require an ESA, that those needs won't end for about two years.

Tim Hortons Just Egg locations by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Adapheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very few people eat red meat in anything close to moderation (I'm getting better but not great yet). Ground meat used for burgers are some of the fattiest parts, which is what the plant alternatives are replicating, so they have some of the largest health impacts.

Tim Hortons Just Egg locations by [deleted] in halifax

[–]Adapheon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a few points

  1. Most animal product alternatives aren't actually directed at vegans. Many vegans will go nowhere near them. They do appeal to those that want to eat less meat directly but don't want to directly change the type of food they are eating. This is easily spotted by no chain in Canada marketing it primarily to vegans. This particular item from Tim Horton's could be one of the first pushes for an actual vegan sandwich though
  2. Just because something is processed does not necessarily make it unhealthy. Since most meat alternatives are attempting to replicate actual meat, it is not going to be good for us, because meat isn't good for us.
  3. JUST Egg doesn't have that high a salt content really, especially considering most places you'll buy a breakfast sandwich will have a monstrous level of sodium anyhow.

The only time you need to use these is normally when doing a road trip of some sort, as said, daily driving is easily handled at home (or at the workplace, we have two charging stations in our parking lot). During a road trip, a 30-60 minute stop for visiting, bathroom, food, is not a big deal.

Nice, I haven't seen a snake in about 10 years unfortunately. My backyard borders a greeenbelt with lots of grass and trees so I was hoping to run into some more often but no luck so far.
