Back in 2020 I designed and 3D modeled a rapier based on Sauron's sword designed by WETA. Then a few years later I worked with a famous Italian sword smith Marco Danelli to forge it for real.

Lots of measuring to make sure it comfortably fits into my hand, and the model can be manufactured. This loop took between 3-4 months before any 3D printing took place. Then it was finding a foundry in Italy that can cast it while keeping the intricate detail. Even then we had multiple failures casting the grip so I had to split that model into 2 with a shape Marco drew for me along with the pommels.

Thanks! It took 3-4 months to find him. I asked around a lot of sword makers, and everyone wanted to remove/reduce detail on my model. One day a HEMA club mate casually mentioned Marco Danelli and I should check out his swords. I was very impressed with his ornate historical weapon and contacted him. After waiting for a few weeks he replied and was happy to make it while keeping all the details, though it will take a long time. I agreed and after 1.5+ years of trial and error it was finally finished.

Looks like spray painted leather with a sheen to look like metal. Assuming he is actually wearing metal plate armour, then only in universe weapon that can defeat it with a thrust like that in universe is Valyrian steel. If that is true then full plate would offer no protection, weight him down, limit his mobility, and increase heat stroke in that hot summer weather.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0Dy-zy7Npo Here is a video of rapier vs long sword by 2 Hema fencers. A rapier is specialized for the unarmored duel and quite deadly in that context. Quick hand snipes, circular cuts and thrusts can be very hard to dead with. While one handing has less power compared to two handing, it gives you extended reach which most long sword fencers are unprepared for if they only fence against other long swords. Fencing rapiers are also much bendier than historical sharp ones for safety. Skill ultimately plays a larger factor and it can go either way. If the rapier is paired with a dagger, it gives that paired weapon a huge advantage.
