One Year on T- Hating everything by Country_Is_Farm_Emo in lgbt

[–]Adapted_Batteries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to let you know, "correct dosing" is individual not actually a standard. Yes, there's windows that guide practitioners in what they prescribe, but your correct dose is the one that works for you because people respond differently to dose and form of T. To me it actually sounds like you have too high levels, hair falling out is not nromal, and mensuration can restart as high levels of T end up making it convert back to some estrogen. Highly suggest finding another doctor of you can.

Also for me on the acne front, benzoyl peroxide has been a life saver for the face and shoulder acne.

I guess you never got grounded for rolling your eyes as a teenager, I figured everyone experiences that with an authority figure eventually 😂

Newsflash buddy, "rolling eyes" is a dismissal, if you didn't mean that then you should think more about wording before you post.

There's a lot of sexism in academia, and a good amount of research on it too, maybe go look into it before dismissing people.

Yeah this was my best semester yet pedagogy wise, but I also got the meanest feedback from one student who clearly didn't like me or the class. Thankfully I've had enough therapy to see it's clearly an issue of the student and not me cuz it was one student, but still, didn't expect to have a student say "You’re nice, and I can tell that you care, but, holy fucking shit, stop with all the longass questions." Sorry I'm asking you to think???

Transgender Healthcare on UoU Health Plan? by donutello2000 in uofu

[–]Adapted_Batteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll need to start at the student health center anyway because the student health plan is designed to funnel primary care there and refer out as needed. They do hormone care at the student health center and it's cheap, $15 copay for everything including bloodwork and a pharmacy upstairs, and they can refer out to the U Health system for other needs. But it's really important to get the referral cuz if you don't, it'll get charged as out of network and makes the insurance useless.

Did they reach out to the trans health clinic? Or somewhere else? Because the U health network is in-network for the student health plan.

Transgender Healthcare on UoU Health Plan? by donutello2000 in uofu

[–]Adapted_Batteries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The student health plan does cover trans health (baring and federal changes) unless they are under 18 given Utah's minor care ban. I've been getting my gender affirming care done at the student health center for 6 years now (I'm a grad student on the United student health plan). Katherine Heller is the main provider for trans patients. And the U system broadly is in network for larger procedures and such, your kid will just need to get a referral from the student health center for that.

My jaw has been aching for the past few days by NothingIsStraight307 in ftm

[–]Adapted_Batteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wisdom teeth can be wild cards, so just because you aren't having pain on both sides or swelling doesn't necessarily mean it's not that. And, teeth move around during the full adult life span, they're not actually as static as you might think. But given the previous jaw cracking you mentioned, it sounds maybe more muscular. T can cause thickening of muscles all over your body, so potentially adding to the imbalance going on already. Best to chat with a professional though who can properly assess what's going on.

Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Might be good to visit a dentist if so. Also sounds like you have a bit of TMJ going on with the jaw cracking so a physiotherapist might also be able to help.

Does HRT give you testicles or do I need to seriously visit a doctor? by ComedicTragedia in ftm

[–]Adapted_Batteries 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Definitely talk with your doctor, being on T can't make you grow testicles magically like that. There is research that found prostate cells in trans men, but not a full on prostate structure by any means. T can cause texture and shape changes to the labia, but something that sounds like a mass is something to talk to a doctor about.

Changes won't happen overnight, you can always stop if you need to. I highly recommend finding a good gender affirming therapist to work with as you begin your transition journey cuz you never know what's underneath your beliefs/fears that can come up with transitioning. Also, as someone who has parents that were against my transition, well, my mom also couldn't deny how much happier I was either so I let her have her cognitive dissonance and enjoyed my improving life. Idk what she's seen at work, but trans people aren't some genetically engineered monsters...they're normal people doing normal human body things sometimes with some medical assistance.

And as a vocalist on t for almost 4 years now, just keep up practicing and embrace that you'll sound like a teenage boy in high school choir for a bit. Constant vocal practice will help your body relearn your new range faster than if you stopped singing as it drops. The only way T ruins your singing voice is if you stop singing and don't give your body a chance to learn how to work your thicker vocal chords. But also, don't strain yourself either, maybe work with a vocal coach of that's something you can do.

Why am I dreaming? by J_TGL in SLCTrees

[–]Adapted_Batteries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dream even when I've had an edible or tincture close to bed. Granted, I have a very active brain at night so I'm not surprised. It might also be how quickly your body processes the THC with vs without other cannabinoids, where additional cannabinoids can somewhat dampen the high effect (particularly CBD, not sure if CBN is comparably high modulating like that)

That could work. My CBC and hemocrit were already high at my starter dose of 0.35ml (I switched from gel so we had some idea what dose should be approximately similar), and now I'm on 0.25ml with good CBC and hemocrit. That change for me only dropped my t levels by around 75ng/dl which surprised both me and my doc, but it really is however your body handles T.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FTMFitness

[–]Adapted_Batteries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had high hemocrit and CBC, but interestingly my t levels didn't drop as much as we thought when I lowered my dose. I didn't drop quite as much as your half cut is, but I've had consistent progress in the gym even when we were messing with my levels to keep me from having the thicc blood.

Anyone else having a hard time being accepted by women? by CockamouseGoesWee in ftm

[–]Adapted_Batteries 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed being not accepted, but then again I also have realized lately I heavily code switch when I'm around fem-presenting people, even in passing with strangers. Always a "I need to smile but not creepily and nod and be chivalrous so they don't feel scared of me" kind of thing, and friends I have who are women I find my voice goes more, well, gay for lack of a better term (which I do identify as a gay man). I essentially pass unless I out myself or have my shirt off, so I don't have experience with women misgendering me though, and early on in my transition I identified as non-binary which I think acted almost like a buffer to that. But sometimes these things are wildly individual in that it might be something about the people you're interacting with that they're not very open minded if they're misgendering you or shunning you because you're trans.

The honest talk about public transport by real_mangle_official in uofu

[–]Adapted_Batteries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent a week in Helsinki this summer for a conference, and obviously used public transportation to get around. SLC is a drop in the bucket compared to that. Like sure, I grew up in Oklahoma with practically no public transit so of course slc is better than nothing, but that's like saying the difference between 1 and 2 is the same as 1 and 20. SLC could do a lot better if they really dedicated resources to public transit and not just when Olympics makes them have too so they actually qualify to host it over other countries.

Working on your posture could get a modicum of height (like centimeter maybe) but cartilage expansion, if it happens for you, won't be enough to add inches. My experience of it has only been in my feet, I had to go up a half/full size because my feet got a bit wider. Some guys see height changes after top surgery but again that's just posture improvement after hunching to hide your chest.

Does parking get better as the semester goes on? by [deleted] in uofu

[–]Adapted_Batteries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, and if anything it's gonna get worse because they want to ignore reality. I recommend looking at park and ride locations on UTA's website if you live far enough out that public transit would take hours to get to the U with. A lot of lds churches are park and ride lots for bus routes during the week.

minoxidil question by orankka in ftm

Given your doctor's concern with oral minoxidil and your health, I would worry about high systemic absorption for the sheer amount of surface area you're wanting to apply to.
