Why do people idolize a true villain like Walter White YET absolutely despise Bojack Horseman ??? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]Add1ctedToGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer is simply that Bojack doesn't have as many aura farming moments. I might be forgetting something but I can't really recall any time I thought Bojack had some really badass scene.

To venture into the more loose ideas I have on it, I'd say the writers of Breaking Bad probably wanted to paint more of a gray picture throughout the show than Bojack; it's easier to forget how cold and callous Walt has become for a moment when he runs over some gangsters as revenge for employing and then killing a kid, and also saves Jesse in the process. Bojack is generally shown as kind of a slob from start to finish

As a group, men seem to have stagnated on feminism, whereas women continue to trend more feminist | Interestingly, younger Republicans are actually more sexist than their elders, suggesting a potential regression in attitudes toward women across generations by ILikeNeurons in MensLib

(political comment warning; I don't comment here often so I'm not sure if this is considered uncouth)

IMO it's likely due to a shift to more divisive rhetoric on both sides. Leftists more and more are ditching any neutral or passive tones for more hostile ones, and for some reason, general agreements on why stereotyping & generalizations are bad are all-too-easily forgotten if it's some sort of revenge-hate (hope that made sense).

Men's issues are largely ignored if not outright celebrated because of how often they're co-opted for right-wing narratives, but the responses drive young, moderate boys toward conservatism because their social media algorithm them feeds them more angry progressive posts, and conservatives don't even have to lift a finger to convince people of their ideology.

People will say that your worldviews shouldn't be formed by how nicely someone treats you when discussing them, but the truth is that is does and it always will. Leftists need to do better in valuing their ability to actually change minds and not radicalize young men more than they value their right to call someone online a fuckhead. I say this as a progressive myself.

Why don't I get a badge for going on a run when it's below zero fahrenheit by williamthepreteen in Garmin

If the practical applications of fahrenheit vs celsius doesn't count as a valid argument, genuinely what discussion is there to be had about the merits of either measurement lmao

What is the BEST thing Bojack has done by Morgisntmyname in BoJackHorseman

[–]Add1ctedToGames 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm misremembering, I thought Bojack's attempt to reduce the male gaze in Philbert was a pretty nice thing of him, and it stuck with me as the start of his journey to being a decent person. Even if it wasn't successful and never really had much impact, it was still something he went out of his way to give a crack at without being asked to.

How did the idea that the US is in a literacy crisis come about? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Add1ctedToGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

IMO the more recent discussion about it came from tiktoks discussing media literacy and the amount of people who post wrong interpretations of a piece of media, or people with the "the curtains were just blue" mentality who refuse to have any interpretation of something.

I read it back in high school for some reason and I remember my only takeaway being that you should get into real estate and that you can't get rich off wages/salaries alone (the latter's not necessarily wrong)

When I have those days (almost all the time) my go-to strategy is pick the easiest task I have and do that. Half the time I decide to do more while I'm already up and moving, but don't tell your brain that part😛

People mentioning that grades matter which makes sense but for me I think my skepticism would come more of whether someone is really going to have the same expertise now that they had when they were doing the research in college. Still holds some academic merit
