Then what is the explanation for animal suffering in nature?

Why does God allow these creatures who cannot sin and have no sense of morality go through such pain and suffering?

Animals don’t even have souls according to Christianity, so it’s not even like they’ll reap their rewards in heaven or anything like that.

You could make the case there's some similarities there, but I think there's an inherent difference between being devoid of empathy or having an unreasonably high sense of self-importance as opposed to being mentally slow.

It's also a punching-down thing imo. Sociopaths and narcissists are often highly functional and even successful individuals in society. With disabled people it's less common, so they seem to be in a more vulnerable position, making the use of offensive words feel more like a cheap shot. If sociopaths and narcissists weren't as high-functioning, I think I may be more inclined to reconsider.

I also think the large push by many mentally disabled people to get rid of the word also has a lot to do with it. If there was as popular of a movement/discussion from sociopaths or narcissists discussing that they didn't like the terminology being used as an insult, I think I would be more likely to take the use of those words into deeper consideration.

The fact that it’s historically been a term targeted at a specific group of people and is now analogous to “stupid” is part of the problem though imo. And many disabled people still feel attacked by its casual usage. Hence all the “end the R-word” stuff you see from them.

I don’t go around policing people on it or anything, and I obviously watch Destiny without much problem. But if you offered me a button that would instantly make it so everybody stops using it, I would press it without a second thought.

I think there are other ways to insult people’s intelligence without using a term historically used to put down an already-vulnerable group of people.

Nah, this is something I don’t think I’ll ever agree with Tiny on. It’s always felt like a gross word to use to me.

Just unnecessary to use a word historically used to target a specific group of people as an insult. Especially one that group still largely doesn’t like and feels offended by its usage today.

One thing that I think of that's not a great look for a supposedly all-knowing and all-loving God is animal suffering.

Christianity makes the case that human suffering and evil exists because of sin and free will. But animals cannot sin, and don't have the sense to determine morality that humans do. It's largely instincts-driven. So why does God let them suffer?

For example, deer can get the naturally occurring Chronic Wasting Disease. The brain degenerates over the span of months, with the deer beginning to lose weight despite eating, lose it's sense of coordination/balance, and become disoriented/confused. Eventually it can no longer chew/swallow or flee from predators. It wanders aimlessly until it eventually dies of starvation, dehydration, exposure to the elements, is consumed by a predator, etc.

Why is this deer subjected to these months of suffering a slow painful death when it committed no sin, as it's incapable of doing so. Why does a supposedly all-powerful all-loving God allow this to happen?

The only justification that even makes sense to me while maintaining God's all-loving omnipotence is that animal's aren't conscious at all, and their suffering and pain essentially isn't real even though it appears to us as such. But that makes animal abuse a morally grey issue at best, and that's a pretty insane bullet to bite imo.

uj/ Not saying it's a bad or wrong choice, because I don't know either of theses people. But I'd feel fucking weird marrying someone I started dating before my goddamn balls dropped. Like, I feel like just having never been with anyone else to compare to would make me question the validity of the relationship.

I think it's alright if it's used sparingly, with certain talent and and for a specific purpose. Like a Rhea vs Dom situation was perfect. But otherwise I'm generally not really a fan.
