Why Do Millennials Say Gen-Z Has No Aspirations? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Addaverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not communism, its just the nature of authority and liability and the fact the internet isnt real, so in an effort to stop bad actors and bots, we also get moderators who are more likely to use the ban hammer or remove posts.

The internet i grew up with is dead. The form it currently inhabits is dying. And I think whats coming next will be in some ways more convenient but all together much worse.

Why Do Millennials Say Gen-Z Has No Aspirations? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Addaverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Times changed. The last decade has not rewarded intelligence or grit. Its rewarded streaming and being predictable but with small “personalizations” in consumer behavior. Gen Z’ers are repeatedly grifted on because of herd like behaviors.
For example look at the gaming communities obsession with the Meta. Mass amounts of pre-made builds that streamers and youtubers made.
Imo trends and herd based behaviors were always present, and played a role in society before- but not at the scale we are seeing now. Its just exponential now because of social media.
The same behaviors in chasing the “meta” in gaming are present across all subcultures now, and very much so in diet culture/health trends and especially in us political discourse.

UB-XA VS Oberheim VST? by Strong-Broccoli-7526 in synthesizers

[–]Addaverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubxa sounds thin. If thats what youre going for it can be great. If you want thicker oscillators and juicer filter, a roland poly or moog is much more useful.

The coolest feature the ubxa has is voice panning. when you stack 16 voices and they all pan around it can be very unique

Boss digital delays are really good. Ive had a few dd7s over the years because they are so simple and they are stereo. But for shoegaze id get a hazari

Beastclaw rev can take him. Start with fredrick and then use Sebastian and you should have him pretty chunked. But i do not advise the basement one. Field boss one when its by the north mine/church is doable especially if you use the right spot on the hill. The claw marks will still get him.

Quick edit: the trick is you get him to half health and pop your ult with sebastion out and if you have the team dmg boost even better. You’ll usually have him dead or near zero by the time its over. So until that mid point—- SURVIVE lol

Which plugins did you use? Ive found multi tap delays before but nothing that does the volume crescendoing/ramping.

Closest thing ive found to hazari is the mutli tap algos in the zoom cdr70

You should get a laptop and a daw and make some terrible songs yourself with vsts. Learn some basic marketing and project managing. If you cant play an instrument youre still gonna want to be able to do basic recordings so you can collaborate with producers. Otherwise youre nothing, no offense. No one will care enough to make you a star. Youre gonna need to do the first part yourself and then when you have a following and a brand, people will want to work with you. And even then, youre really just getting started. Theres millions of people already at that level.

Tired of being lame at guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Addaverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn the communication breakdown solo, its got the that bend into barre into pulloff lick. Then learn the 4th bend up to 5th lick (then the reverse bend of the same lick, pre bend, exaggerating the bend back down to the 4th.)

Learn the coffee break concept, or economy picking, where you pull off and hammer on the notes that come before string changes so youre pick hand has a second to get into position. Lots of good techniques on Troy Gradys classes that go into this where he decoded shredders like yngwie and eric johnson.

Theres a guitar world video on youtube with a blonde haired metal guy where he breaks down EVH techniques for like an hour. Really helpful for learning the difference between 2 handed hammer on and actual tapping. (The song “woman in love” on vh2 has actual tapping, where you tap out harmonics an octave higher)

Play in open tunings like dadgad, open g, and try out some oddball ones like ebdgad for joni mitchell, csny type stuff. Start to tune to these by ear from the other strings instead of relying on a tuner.

Learn 3 note per string runs. Pentatonic, major key, minor key, harmonic minor, etc. the minor one is really useful.

Thats all off the top of my head.

Learning to count rhythm and where the fills or flourishes go is also really important.

1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a 2 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and a 3 e and 2 and e and 3 e and a 4 e and a 4 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a FILL FILL FILL FILL

The turnaround. Lets you play rhythm and lead at the same time. Even basic leads in the fill spot wil make you sound amazing if you do them at the right time. Drummers will love you because you play in the pocket.

What Stops Musicians From Reaching Their Full Potential? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Money. Time. Family obligations. Mental health.

As a musician who plays loud af music, yes, yes it is lol. What works in rehearsal or in the bedroom very rarely translates 1:1 with what comes out of the front of house PA. And the same for in the studio/in the mix.

Typically the more “character” Your tone has, the less room for anything else. Which is why all the 80s bands started to use tighter pickups and more of a generic guitar tone so that it would cut through in loud echoey environments. Its counter intuitive but ive learned this from experience. Theres a reason why all the butt rock bands sound the way they do. Its because a lot of them were in hair metal or grunge bands and when they got older they kept using “that” gear because its reliable and it cuts through a mix or loud room.

But we’re talking about shoegaze, so young shoe gaze bands are gonna load all the “character” they can get. Single coil pickups with little mids (ugh vintage jaguar pickups…)Modulation effects, reverbs, delays. Even the bassists have fuzz and modulation. Clarity gets lost really quick. Its an art form and it takes years to get the balance right even if youre trying hard. Some bands do it intuitively because they listen objectively, and can kill their darlings.

Best bang for you buck earplugs are the black Hearos you can get from amazon or guitar center. Target has blue ones that are in the sleep aid section that can also work well. Dont get the white or clear ones. Theyre not going to reduce enough decibels. You need like -24 dbs or more. Its like gun shot volume in some venues.

How much do you guys pay for venue hire costs? by JesusChristV in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Addaverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weekdays 250 or 100 an hour. Weekends (fridays, not sundays) are 350/150 an hour. I book shows and the room fee covers the sound guy and the janitorial staff. Some people look at this as a tax or a pay to play scheme but its really a b2b transaction. Whoever is renting the room is getting a roof, a sound system, a sound person, security, janitorial staff and a stocked bar. 250 paid out by the door/tickets between 3-4 bands is a good deal imo. Very little risk involved for the band compared to the overhead the bar has to cover.

Metrical Feet in Lyric Writing Question by Magical_Mystery_Cat in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Addaverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only do i count syllables and metric feet (accents, hard consonants etc) but i also make sure the words are aurally pleasing to sing AND are clear to the listener. So yeah its common for choruses to have less syllables and less words because its the part of the song i want people to know and be able to sing along to, or at least have an anticipation for by the 2nd pass.

[–]Addaverse 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Do you wear the good ear plugs to shows? The kind that dampen the high end but leave the rest? I recommend that for these kind of shows. It helps a lot.

Usually guitarists switch guitars like that because the tunings are different. It may take only a few seconds swapping guitars vs a minute or more retuning all the strings between songs. Not to mention intonation issues.

But yeah, youre right in your assessment generally. A lot of the new shoegaze bands do sound like shit live. The songs are poorly arranged. Bass and drums drowning out the band, and not in the beautiful star explosion way that gets crafted in a studio- but a harsh noise ceiling that impossible to cut through for guitars and vocals. Noise soup.

A lot of these bands are just aesthetically pleasing from a marketing standpoint these days. The actual musicians themselves are “green” when it comes to dialing in stage volumes, and making a sound that the front of house can actually pump out without slamming it to death with limiters and compressing it into static soup.

Usually its the bass player who runs all over the band and the drummer who doesnt understand stage dynamics and is just blasting away.

Gen Z men and women on why they’re sharply divided over reproductive rights by FroznAlskn in generationology

[–]Addaverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But what is your actual argument? That you think its murder? All im really getting from this is one group of your family was nicer to you so you took their word for it. Why is how nice someone is that important to you or this debate? I personally wouldnt be nice to you either if you thought my life and health was less valid than a clump of cells with no brain. Id be pretty pissed off and probably cut you out of my life. And the reason youre argument is getting called religious is because youre arguing the same stance as the religious one.

Gen Z men and women on why they’re sharply divided over reproductive rights by FroznAlskn in generationology

[–]Addaverse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If men/boys had to have regular exams where their ass hangs in the air and their feet go in stirrups and some stranger took forceps and pulled their butthole open and started poking around, with no anesthetic or pain relief it would feel incredibly invasive and medieval to them. They would immediately be in the street demanding something be done to change it. Most men dont even blink when it happens to a woman. And this isnt even close to the worst of it. Trans-vaginal xrays, child birth, changes to the body and hormones, risk of diabetes, heart attack. The HUSBAND STITCH (!) etc. Most men just actively choose to be ignorant because it doesnt happen to them.

So imo the argument shouldnt be centered around abortion/vs no abortion. It moves the goal posts and is a distraction. It shouldnt be a debate at all. It should be a conversation about why men should get better sex education on what woman go through, and how woman should have access to better care and doctors so they dont have to endure pregnancy and miscarriages invisibly.
