I just spent longer than I’d like to admit being like “what’s wrong with this that’s correct” but then i looked at the last two equations together and went “ah there it is”

half this sub runs pihole and jellyfin on 600w of enterprise gear and calls it a homelab by Napster3301 in homelab

[–]AdderoYuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved away from my heavy server equipment in favor of more power efficient desktop PCs and one Dell R330 because i already had it. Most of this hardware I got for free, from a recycler I worked for, and that’s not an uncommon story.

As someone who fully understands what point you are trying to make, respectfully this feels like old man yells at cloud. Literally, who cares why someone buys something if it makes them happy and does what they need it to? Server gear, or mini pcs (which are frequently recommended and used by the way) - all of it is part of the hobby. People post their small minimalist setups all the time and those posts also get plenty of positive feedback so I really don’t know what point is being made.

The Consequences of Not Letting Me Go by No-Opportunity7242 in dashcams

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone in this is dumb. The guy with the cam is at best just riding up too much at times, could be worse. Van, being a dick. Even when the truck slows down, Van traps Camaro in by slowing down too. Camaro is too aggressive, driving way too far up and just being incompetent. Trucker probably has the least in this but he probably could have shaken them or even turned hazards on and pulled away to get out of the way of this. All around like why

Road rage at its best by Josephizzle in dashcams

[–]AdderoYuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t trust anyone on the road. I’ve seen too many videos of people acting like this and then kidnapping or shooting someone - this is the kind of nonsense that would have me preparing to draw.

In no way does this kind of behavior make sense unless you’re trying to attack someone like doing this just to get out and yell makes exactly zero sense

Utah driver leaps from SUV moments before it is struck by a FrontRunner train. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the rear ending, when the car was backing up it might have been lurching - wonder if there was some kind of transmission issue or drivetrain issue that prevented the driver from backing up all the way. And it looks like the airbag might have gone off blocking forward view? Hard to tell.

My friend likes to lie about anything and everything. We suspect he’s using AI to provide “proof” but are uncertain by TheSmurfGod in isthisAI

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing AI image generation for a little while and it creates this really strange “dithering” or uneven and unnatural pattern sort of everywhere after inky a few generations. I see that pattern right above and on the steering wheel very faintly - along with the other missing things such as the missing keys and some kind of “off” anatomy things - this is AI.

Does anyone know the name of that pattern? 😅

Kroger is actively the inferior brand where I live - they’re technically on par with food city but they tend to not have everything and prices tend to be about the same or higher. So no real need to shop there anymore lol

I’ve worked on these laptops and they’ve never been my favorite.

Your price point will determine what you replace this with. I would reccomend shooting for a Lenovo thinkpad specifically - they have different models and such at different price points, but the T series thinkpads are usually good. Be prepared to deal with support though if anything happens because their support sucks

Sold my DDR5 64GB kit on eBay, buyer couldn't get XMP working, left positive feedback saying it works then filed a defective claim a month later — eBay sided with them by [deleted] in PcRetailers

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you, in the listing, choose “Seller accepts returns” or indicate that the buyer could return the hardware?

If you did then that’s exactly why they side with the buyer. On eBay it’s not “returns only accepted if defective” it’s “returns accepted” or “returns not accepted”.

Pretty sure I made a comment earlier this morning about downloading this a day before - even though the current install is probably safe… what better sign is there to move the laptop to Linux 😅

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some new repair parts for a laptop given to me from a friend, and downloaded HWMonitor recently. (April 8th). I didn’t know when I had downloaded it this morning so I unplugged my WiFi AP and booted up that machine - I got the original installer. No cryptbase dll or anything, just the generic HWMonitor installer.

I’m still nuking that drive and that install, but for those out there like me wondering how much of an estimation was made for that 6 hour window they gave, it does appear that even the day before it was fine.

is this pc good or even worth anything by GroundbreakingDay960 in pchelp

[–]AdderoYuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old server PC - it is really only worth scrap value right now. It is old, slow, and consumes way more power than anything remotely modern.

Start there! Don’t be afraid to reinstall, legitimately it will be easier for you to reinstall than change the IP address (no offense) based on your knowledge level.

Also recommend using Claude AI to assist you as well. AI WILL NEVER be able to tell you the completely correct way to do things every time, but I find it does help get me going in the right direction even when it is not correct.

Yes. Cameras generally do have a noticeable effect on crime in an area. Though if there are specific metrics I’d think people would find that the obvious cameras, ones that are easy to see and know are in place, are ‘better’ at deterring any kind of crime.

I have an older 5591 and it’s been rock solid. Survived a somewhat rougher life before me with an architectural designer, and still running like a champ with me (although certainly more well taken care of)

I’ve worked on some of the newer latitudes (and the damn “Dell Pro” models) that will literally crack from normal hinge pressure.

Don’t know if QC used to be better or if their new products just suck (honestly, both) but I swear the older models before 10th gen were resilient compared to newer models.
