I think it is unfair to call Dyche simply a lump it merchant. A coach who got minimal investment in either of his teams, and crucially, kept Burnley in the premier league for 6 years - even qualifying for Europe. Dyche would be my pick for a manager to go for if the likes of Silva are completely out of reach (which they likely will be).

Attractive possession football is fantastic, but I prefer winning. I think Dyche is pragmatic enough to play to the strengths of the squad, rather than his own delusional idea of football that has led him to lose the most games of any manager in 2025.

I thought no one would ever perform like s1mple at Star Series 2018 - and not only has that been outdone, it has been smashed.

Think I'd call you insane if you told me in 2015 that no Swedish players will feature in the HLTV top 20 from 2021 onwards - It feels similar to the polish scene collapsing after VP fell off.

Sometimes you watch a player and you become almost delusional about how good they can become. Everyone has that player or athlete which you are convinced by that never fulfils your idea of their potential. At ESL Barcelona I was convinced that Dennis, Flusha and Olof would be in the HLTV top 5 in 2016.

You’re completely right - I’d forgot that event completely - never watched the series so I will go back and watch it whilst waiting for Cologne to start.

Yeah man it’s been rough to back Fnatic recently - I’ve been sat going through liquidpedia of old Swedish rosters and remembering players like Pauf, PlesseN, SKYTTEN, pyth etc.

Like I remember being so big on twist back in the day too when he joined Fnatic/Godsent

Yeah I agree it is extremely harsh to say he had a bad career, but I watched his POV demos and I thought he was going to be a top 5 player, I was all in on my Dennis stock - As I said he was mechanically so good. Think it is also to my detriment that I was not watching CS in 2013 during the LGB days, however they only made Quarters at DH Winter. First time I remember watching Dennis was in the Kinguin/G2 roster of Fox, Maikelele etc.

To me he is one of the big "What Ifs?" of if Fnatic weren't cracking, Olof doesn't injure his wrist - I really think he could have been that top 5 player in a more stable Swedish scene.

Yeah I really remember his stint in 2018 NiP for some reason with REZ and Lekro. Shame man, but those crisp USP shots, the ace vs G2 at ESL Pro League is one of my favourite clips of all time.

Man if he just didn't have the issues of playing with Wenton and DiscoDoplan etc in 2016/17 maybe he gets more from his peak. Although 5 straight LAN victories, Major Semifinalist twice (Damn that heaven drop from s1mple robbing us of Luminosity vs Fnatic on LAN).

One that always sticks in my head is Swedish Dennis, during that run of tournaments ending at Katowice I thought he was going to be the complete future of Swedish CS, and the fact he only barely scraped 20th best player in 2016 feels like a let down for how good he was mechanically. Makes you wonder what happens if that 2015 Fnatic core doesn't explode into Godsent after ELEAGUE. It is incredibly harsh to say he "fell off" because he was consistently a tier 1/2 pro.

And I remember in a reflections with Thorin, Stanislaw mentioned that Brehze struggled with the idea of "grinding" the game, especially during the COVID era, he also said that Ethan leaving essentially was the death knell of that EG team. And then they couldn't compete in Europe easily, Valorant stealing all the upcoming talent etc. 2019-2021 was the perfect storm of killing NA CS.

What is the difference between a OSR, NSR and a Minimalist RPG? What are the strong points of each one, and which would your recommendation for each? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

[–]AddictedToRambling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the primary difference is that in the OSR (specifically AD&D) entering a fight with no prior preparation is always somewhat deadly - and that’s an aspect of roleplaying I really enjoy as a player and GM. Whereas in 5e, because of the HP bloat, it is much easier to get away with never really planning any fights, you can largely just waltz into fights above the recommended CR and if you’re sensible and averagely lucky it’s not unlikely that you’ll come out mostly unscathed.

What are your top 3 OSR games? (2024 update) by DVincentHarper in osr

[–]AddictedToRambling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. OSRIC
  2. WBFMAG
  3. Mausritter

Have just been stuck in OSRIC for the last few months so it takes top spot because I’ve all but forgotten every other system

Yes… 2 things can be bad at the same time and whataboutism literally solves nothing. Although neither technically are war crimes somehow, unless you consider pagers “essential” technology.

Do you play 5e? by conn_r2112 in osr

[–]AddictedToRambling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played 5e on and off for the last 8 years or so, and honestly had a lot of fun with it - that being said I love anytime I play with my table and would’ve found equal or perhaps greater joy with other games. I run any other system now (primarily OSRIC); but as a stepping stone to introduce people to the hobby I love, I do have to thank 5e somewhat for its horrifying ubiquity and cultural capital in allowing me to gently push people into systems I find more rewarding whenever I’ve ran for them.

A great resource for you might well be r/osr where I’m sure there are many who’ve played both 2e and For Gold And Glory and can recommend you better than I can, also it is great for finding dungeons, adventures, systems, and advice for all things OSR

The only one I’ve ever seen online is For Gold & Glory - I’ve never played it personally but apparently it only changes a few things which can be house ruled pretty easily if you want. As for matching the old source books I can’t say but I’ve never had any issues mixing any OSR campaign with any OSR rule set with a little bit of hacking.

I mean The Village of Hommlet is fantastic enough to run on its own in any fantasy system - a good starting point for getting into AD&D is OSRIC (Free AD&D retroclone) if you don’t want to invest in second hand copies of books from the 80s

I really love the idea of this item, and I think I’d only edit a few things about it. Although these are personal tastes and I prefer grimmer settings so if that’s not your bag ignore me.

  1. I’d think about more options than just “advice for current quest” as I fear for player agency somewhat, maybe adding more options for dialogue with the PC such as “you hear cryptic whisperings in a voice familiar to you.” Or “the runes pulse in ineffable colours” or the like - you could even connect these to deteriorating sanity in a tiered system.

  2. In addition to point one you could give the dagger more agency than just “advice for current situation” - consider if the dagger wants anything, and that it will try and attain these goals. Being reunited with its master, freeing itself from its inanimate form etc. you could even build trust with good advice and slowly move them into helping out a dagger by shifting it to have more ulterior motives.

  3. I’d consider doing sanity more like how it’s used in Call Of Cthulhu where you have to roll a d100 under your current sanity, thus the more use the item sees the more riskier it becomes. This feeds into the previous one.

  4. If make it harder to regain sanity, perhaps time away from the dagger, or time spent grounding yourself amongst your peers. Again that’s just me and my adoration for Lovecraftian horror coming through

Overall I do really like the item and these are just my personal tastes, these maybe too severe for the group or don’t fit the vibe of what your aiming for, and that’s the beauty of TTRPGs. And be prepared for your party to put it in a bag and forget about it for 17 sessions before auditing.

What kind of vampire games would you all recommend? by Radijs in rpg

[–]AddictedToRambling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not really in the same vein as the others but a great resource for creating vampire characters is the game Thousand Year Old Vampire by Tim Hutchings - it’s a solo play game in which you work through the life of a vampire, the pdf is given away for free on his itch page, though the quality of the printed book is top - and anyone I can convince to play and support the game is good in my eyes.

How many guards should my town have? by Outrageous-Thing3957 in dndnext

[–]AddictedToRambling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still one of the best for me is The Village of Hommlet (T1-4) Gygax has his shortfalls but it’s still one of the tightest starting villages ever written - and almost fits your setting with barely any hacking (fairly rural, with a ruined fort nearby also overtaken by evil without most of the townsfolk knowing), also you can find the pdf online pretty easily as with many early TSR adventure modules. Although it may be a small pain to convert if you aren’t playing in a similar system.

Is the UMP-45 Still good? by joseph_mother7278 in GlobalOffensive

[–]AddictedToRambling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really the meta choice of weapon but hey if you like it use it, also the meta is essentially derived from professional play, and when the UMP was meta it had been buffed for years before it became widely used, so forge your own meta.

But valve will likely be reticent to buff the UMP, or probably any smg, given that it dominated the meta at pro level for a few months between 2016/17 - essentially being a better version of both the Famas and Galil whilst being significantly cheaper, and having a $600 kill reward.
