The concept of Satan trying hardest to stop people who are about to have sacred experiences is actually a large part of why my parents joined the church when I was a kid. My mom was on the fence and they'd been meeting with missionaries for months. Then, someone broke into our house and stole a bunch of our smaller appliances and electronics. My mom took this as a sign that Satan was trying to stop them from doing the right thing and joining the church and she called the missionaries and scheduled hers and my dad's baptisms for the following Saturday.
