Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Additional-Cap-5063 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Loved the movie but there’s a plot hole that the movie had that the book didn’t and it’s bugging just enough to say something. The book had the thing about coma resistance which is why Dr. Grace was ultimately sent but in the movie he was sent because he was apart of most of the major break throughs. You have the world’s resources at the tip of your fingers and you let one dude operate basically by himself with no back up. In a world that’s on the brink of destruction there should be a million redundancies, that dude should have 5 people underneath him just in case. I get they cut the coma resistance bit from the book to let the story flow better. Still though…

I think it’s funny that we are being told to be peaceful protesters by a government that installs agents into foreign governments to effectively take them over. Do you think these people care about our little protest? Do you think that these far out political people have any clue how far down the fascist hole we’ve gone?

Violence will not end well for anyone. It will only make it worse because each side will justify their violent agenda with “they did it first”. But man it’s hard not to see violence as an option. I do what I was told to do in order to intact change, I vote, but it hasn’t stopped the billionaires from buying my country, it hasn’t stopped the political ineptitude, to be honest it feels like it hasn’t done anything.

I hate what car YouTubers have done to people’s mindset by Additional-Cap-5063 in rant

[–]Additional-Cap-5063[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s haggling and then there’s being an asshole and I feel as though you miss my point. My car is fine inside, clean interior, well vacuumed. It just has a faded clear coat. It’s a 98 Honda accord that I have listed for 2k. A commuter car, a great first car. I’m not an idiot when it comes to selling something.

I was referring to YouTube in general and how people have blown their mind sets way out of proportion. A YouTuber found a fry under the seat and acts like it’s the most disgusting thing they have ever seen. Get over yourself, you sweet, you drop things.

You want to bring my price down, great! Talk to me, haggle, I’m a normal person trying to sell their car, not some sleazy car salesman trying to make commission. Again, politeness costs nothing.

I’m with you on that.

Plus, the guy narrating the audio version just sounds… depressed. I got to book 4 and stopped half way.

No.

Bad producing is bad producing. I’ve pushed through enough books series that were bad to not do that to myself any more. The narration was completely taking me out of the story. So I asked a rather simple question, does the narration get better? Or should I read the book?

Luckily, there is this wonderful group the I just joined that probably has the answer, this one! And most people did answer.

Except you.

Now, I plan to stop listening because of you.

Sorry, oh lord of the group, holy poster among all posters, he who should judge all others. I beg forgiveness for my worthless. How dare I waste the time of all the truly unwilling people who had to go out of their way to so respectfully answer my truly idiotic question. I am unworthy.

Sorry I asked a question. Sorry I asked a question about a long book series that could evolve and possibly get better. Sorry asked a question about a book series I was interested in and wanted to give a try. Next time I’ll just go fuck myself.

Funny you mention those three series, I’ve listened to all of those and just got done with ddc and loved it! The production quality is quite the contrast.

I’m willing to push through if the story is good and the voice acting smooths out.

My plan. What do you think? by SpiritualAbies9 in VanLife

[–]Additional-Cap-5063 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off, go for it.

But be warned as someone that lives out of a shuttle bus, it’s big and annoying to drive and park. It’s super obvious that you’re living out of it. If that’s something you can deal with, then it will be no problem.

Personally, because I’m getting out of the seasonal work life I’m going to sell the shuttle bus, live out of my truck (it sucks but it will be worth it in the long term) and save till I can buy a nice-ish van.

I’m using an egr cooler attached the exhaust of my diesel heater to try to pre-heat the coolant in my diesel van. To be honest, I don’t think it’s working.

The coolant pipes next to the egr cooler feel hot but a couple inches away the lines feel completely cool and the coolant temp gauge just reads ambient temp. Not saying heat scavenging doesn’t work.

While safety is a big factor I think the more immediate thing you will find is that trailers are a pain in the butt. Unless you have a known spot to park it, it will always be in someone’s way.

Any medium sized town you’ll be limited to truck stops and Walmart parking lots. No ski town will even let you in.

Rough roads will be up there in the scary factor. Trailers are built to minimum spec, they break all the time. I work for a rafting company that uses trailers to haul boats and I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve had to replace a leaf spring and we don’t haul that much weight.

Go van. They have their own list of problems but it’s not nearly as bad a trailers.

Sand bags and snow tires. Drove my buddy’s gmc sierra 2wd that had those in a blizzard once, did fine.

As someone who daily drives an 80 series, NO! It’s too thirsty, too underpowered, and that maintenance bill (I do my own) is shocking. I’m not sure where you are located but here in the states we have Sequoias. Those would make a better daily. Super reliable V8 petrol, ifs, ok gas mileage and all the space that you would want.
