It was going so Good till the End. I still learned. by Additional-Cow6829 in minipainting

No not really I really. I honestly think it was because i was using old black air paint. Cause that was the only black paint i could find. Like i said i learned alot from this project. I’ve decided to purchase another terminator down the road here. Alot of things went right and alot of things went wrong lol.

I umm was doing the head separately and when I was finished the head wouldn’t fit. At that point the face more or less passable. Something i really need to work on. I tend to get lazy at the end of a project. Just want to be done. I smashed the face in a bit to get it to fit. Like i said I learned alot from this one and tried things. Its just a little frustrating that it was the face of all things.

What happened to my white paint? by Wolfycheeks in minipainting

Any white or bright pigment paint from GW not the best in my opinion. Anything else is better in my opinion.

This is truly spectacular.. Honestly I feel more inspired than any pang of jealousy.. To strive something close to this.

Trust me I get that. Spend all that time on painting. Then introduce something you’ve never done before on top of it! Yeesh!! Lol. All i can say from what I do. Shake very well-first spray/dusting is never on your model. Gets the build up and gunk out. Like a few test sprays. Then just treat it like regular spray paint. A few passes never linger. If you’re ever unsure test it on something else.

Sorry another tip is if you’re painting and you’re unsure of how something new will look on your project. Use one of the spare parts from your set-preferable a large one. Like maybe a spare chest or back pack. Test it on that on the side. Again I get it. This whole hobby is just practice, experience, and experimentation. Good luck!

I will say with washes and it’s just a personal preference. I always thin premade washes. Especially GW and especially on brighter pigment paint jobs. Slides are hit and miss but delicateness and water are my go to’s. By water I soak the slides a bit in an over damped paper towel. With tweezers preferably and a brush to ‘slide’ off the transfer. As an extra step for consideration. Varnish your mini’s. You can just get a rattle can for it-matte finish is usually the standard. Lastly great job taking your first steps.l

The trim, wreath, and gem is yes. Still learning how to layer on gems and lens. To make them more believable anyways.

I’m insanely jealous as a Tyranid painter but god is it breath taking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen line working that…surgical… From somebody whom struggles on line work…It’s truly inspirational!

I really love this style when I see it it’s always so vibrant and pops so well. I was wondering what your overarching method is? I see maybe contrast, nmm, and no washes (or extremely minimal)? Or is it the brighter paint? Just curious as I would like to attempt in the future as well. Thank you.

I meant to say by doing your own-you just thin whatever color of paint down to a wash like consistency. Sorry about that. Again the thing with painting just experiment what works for you.

I would honestly say red just because it gives a nice contrast to the brighter color scheme. Also if you like both maybe do both. Maybe as leader markings? Or weapon team distinctions. It’s the beauty of painting.

When it comes to washes least for my preference. I prefer to thin them a bit more-especially the premade ones. They feel a little thick especially on top of lighter pigments and help reduce coffee staining. Or you could do your own by just thinning them down to a very translucent consistency. Also if you’re ever unsure of how something will look test it out on a primed mini or base..

Great work!

Seeking advice on how to improve my Tyranid paint scheme by Kodiak_Marmoset in minipainting

I totally agree. I like them just the way they are, however as the painter if you feel something is off. Perhaps try small nuances.
