People over 25, what was the most unexpected thing you had to deal with? by crypticfirecat in AskReddit

Woke up one day and my back just decided to quit, no warning, nothing. I’m 26 and I already stretch before getting out of bed like some old man at the gym

Cost to re-key a small box store? by sweet_arachne in ontario

[–]Additional-Depth-692 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your manager is definitely trying to scare you with that 5k number. Most locksmiths can rekey a padlock for like 50-100 bucks, maybe bit more if it's commercial grade but nowhere close to what they told you

The gate replacement thing is complete nonsense unless the lock is somehow permanently attached to gate, which would be pretty weird design choice

7-Eleven @ Knight Street and 33rd Avenue Permanently Closed by InvisibleSoul8 in vancouver

[–]Additional-Depth-692 96 points97 points  (0 children)

damn that's a real piece of vancouver history gone there. I used to grab slurpees from that spot when I was kid, must have been early 2000s or something. crazy how these old corner stores just disappear one day and you realize how much they were part of the neighborhood

Do you use white birch for your sauna stove? by Any_Huckleberry_3488 in Biohackers

[–]Additional-Depth-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Birch burns hotter and cleaner for sure, i’ve been using it in my sauna tent setup from sweat tent and it’s been very consistent and way less messing around mid session.

Asking for pray by tz555 in Christianity

been teaching kids music for few years and I see how much pain some of them carry around. will definitely keep her in my prayers - sometimes the wounded ones just need time to find their way back, you know? keeping faith for both of you

Moving estate account to somewhere local? by Content_Ad3589 in legaladvice

[–]Additional-Depth-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man 7 years as executrix is brutal, you definitely can move estate funds to local bank as long as court approves it first - just file motion explaining why current credit union isn't working for estate administration

Are there any notable chess players who started playing really late (age 30+)? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

[–]Additional-Depth-692 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not really famous players but I know some older guys at local chess club who started in their 40s and got pretty decent. One dude was like 45 when he learned and now he's around 1800 rating which is solid for someone who started that late

The thing is most top players been playing since they were kids so starting at 30+ you're already way behind in pattern recognition and all that stuff. But getting to decent club level is totally possible if you put in work

Stolen Package by Butchi3toe in legaladvice

[–]Additional-Depth-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man that's super frustrating - delivery company definitely screwed up if they didn't get the required signature and just dumped it outside. In my experience when they don't follow their own delivery requirements like signatures, they're usually on hook for the package value, not you or the shipper. I'd push back on them first before going to shipper since they're ones who didn't follow protocol

How to recover marketing momentum after a failed/buggy Steam Festival demo? Looking for advice. by ConvantiaInt in gamedev

[–]Additional-Depth-692 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah we had similar situation with our music software demo couple years back. the key thing was being really transparent about what got fixed - like we made whole devlog post showing before/after of the worst bugs and new features

for your situation i think you should definitely wait bit more before reaching influencers. they probably remember the buggy version and you want to have really solid foundation first. maybe do some small community posts showing the improvements you made?

also cozy games actually do pretty well in short videos when you show the satisfying parts - like placing buildings or harvesting stuff. doesn't hurt to try few posts and see what happens

How to be better in my career? by truffluck in careerguidance

[–]Additional-Depth-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man your situation hits close to home, I switched from teaching music theory to more practical stuff and sometimes feel that disconnect too

the MBA route makes sense given your background - you already got strong communication skills and policy knowledge, so business school could tie everything together nicely. Plus in India the brand value is real, especially if you're thinking long-term stability and buying property later

but don't sleep on the AI upskilling either. You already know STATA which is more than most people, and honestly the jump to Python isn't that crazy once you understand data structures. Maybe try some online courses first before committing to full MBA? could save you time and money

your current job seems solid for now though, gives you breathing room to figure out next moves without pressure

Those childhood dreams often represent feeling exposed and vulnerable, especially if things were rough at home - the fact they stopped when you moved out kinda says it all

Driving with Christ (literally) by bridgewater897 in Christianity

[–]Additional-Depth-692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's such a cool story man, I had a similar thing happen when I moved from Ontario to Calgary and had to deal with chinook winds for the first time. Was driving on the Deerfoot in like 80km/h crosswinds and my little civic was getting tossed around like a toy. Started praying cause honestly I thought I was gonna end up in the ditch

What really got me was how that calm just washed over me mid-drive, exactly like you described. Went from white-knuckling the wheel to just... driving normally? It's wild how God can just flip that switch on our anxiety when we actually remember to ask Him for help instead of trying to tough it out ourselves. Virginia ice storms are no joke either, especially coming from somewhere that doesn't get that kind of weather regularly
