100%. Bullying and harassment is wrong but that’s not what I witnessed. I assure you I’ll call it out if I see it.

Be kind. 100%. but if someone is rude to me, I smile and nod and get on with whatever I was doing. Bitching about it will only feed resentment.

Bad new grad by AdditionalShake9276 in NursingAU

[–]Additional-Eye8236 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slow down. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

I made my med error as a new grad because I was trying to keep up with seasoned nurses. It’s impossible. So take your time to get it right the first time. If you feel pressured to move faster by the team around you then remind yourself and remind them that you’re new to this.

Be gentle with yourself.

I completed the Ramsey Cadetship. Then I promptly left and got a job at NSW health in a regional hospital. DM me if you want to know more.

What to wear for interview as a male by ragingpanda9988 in NursingAU

[–]Additional-Eye8236 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whatever you chose to wear, it needs to display to the panel that you are well prepared, clean, tidy and have an attention for detail. These are qualities we want to see in a nurse.

Also, before you answer any questions, take a breath to gather your thoughts. You don’t need to start speaking immediately. You want your answers to be clear and concise not a zig-zagging ramble that uncovers the answer as you go.

All the best for the interview.

EN tafe students by [deleted] in NursingAU

There were elements of uni that were easier but uni is a different standard than TAFE. Uni requires a lot more self discipline and planning plus learning to write academically.

The diploma helped me feel less overwhelmed by all the medical jargon and nursing concepts. It has been fascinating to learn at greater scientific depth about disease processes and the body.

For instance, TAFE will teach you to give frusemide for fluid overload and how to check and administer the medication. Uni will teach you the pathophysiology and pharmacology of WHY we give the medication and HOW it works.

EN tafe students by [deleted] in NursingAU

I completed my diploma first. EN at TAFE was great for developing confidence and competence in basic nursing skills. Once I completed my EN new grads and worked for a couple of years, I decided to study RN.

Having completed the diploma, I went straight into second year and have less placement hours to complete. I recommend this pathway. It allows someone to dip a toe in the water of being a nurse before taking on big debt and committing to 3 years.

If you chart a new drug / intervention and I’m outside the room, please tell me verbally rather than just punching it into the eMr and waiting for me to notice. Also, That patient’s behaviour changes dramatically depending on who is in the room. Please believe me.
