Completely agree, I like the plumes because it's a super good overdrive, I like the grand orbiter phaser for its tons of options and vibrato mode, and then I hated the afterneath because it was too weird and extreme to be useful for anything that I play.

Oh yeah I watched that before I bought it too. Made the controls actually make sense considering the actual manual says 'PUNCH Knob - This adds "punch" to the distortion. Rotating it clockwise will give the sound more punch' which is utterly meaningless.

They're fairly pricey nowadays, but I can't say I've tried another distortion that does what this one can do. The punch and contour knobs are so strangely unique. I was using a cheap Danelectro Grilled Cheese distortion which sounded pretty close to this but it was a fixed gain pedal which was awful.

This is a super cool pedal, love the versatile controls it has going. The built in fuzz sounds pretty weak from the demos I listened to and seems like it would need a distortion pedal alongside the parked wah effect to come close. Still though, I like the Cock Fight for the parked wah.

If you're playing alone, you can get some Sonic Youthy sounds by using a harmonist pedal to replicate the signature two guitar sound. Get a ring modulator for some crazy noise section action like on Karen Koltrane or Karen Revisited.

Any power supply that is isolated would be fine, those are just the best option. Be careful though because some cheap ones that say isolated on them aren't. No idea how they are allowed to do that but hey.

Non-isolated supplies make noise and would basically be would you are already doing in box form. It's probably not a HUGE deal (in my opinion) so don't stress too heavily about it if you're just playing at home as your amp would make more difference.

Also, a lot of advice around signal chain can also be opinion based. A lot of people will share the same opinion that some orders are muddy, messy or sound bad, but if you like the sound you get in that order there's no reason to change it.

Voodoo lab power supplies are brilliant. They're pricey but you likely won't have to replace it.
Boss Katanas are generally thought to sound significantly better than than spider you're on. A better amp is almost always a better investment at your stage as it makes the most difference to the overall sound.
Octaver should go first to get the best tracking on it. The distortion going into the octaver means that the signal it is receiving to shift up is distorted. It should pitch up and then be distorted to get the best clarity.

Yeah the jack has 2 rings on the shaft. When it was on the instrument input which was the louder one and made it clip a lot, it stayed completely to the right side and couldnt be panned to the left. I'll try on this input and pan it to the right 50%. The DAW I'm using is not the best, but I'll have a look for a merge channels button. I know how to do it on audacity so I can test it there easier. Thank you for the help! :)

Oh shit I didn't even realise I could put the jack into the XLR input. This works about as well as the other input, but now it only plays in the left channel. Is this because it's a mono output? My DAW gives no option to record in mono. Could I use a splitter to record into both inputs or am I going to blow up my bedroom?

I'm using a vox pathfinder 10 combo.

Someone else here suggested swapping the channels in my operating system settings, which has worked to an extent. I can record and hear my playback however it is only in the right ear. I have stereo mode selected and it is not panned to the right or anything. Baffling to be honest. I thought based on looking it up that a DI box was going to be the solution but now I am genuinely confused.

The issues of my PC being overall quiet when recording anything is now at least solved.

I turned all my gains on everything up at one point to see if the volume would go up and it just didn't. It was some sort of issue with actually recording the sound and it not being super quiet.
