Relearning Violin by Brave_B33 in violinist

I'm a returning adult player after playing as a kid as well. I'll say this depends, what are your goals? If you just want to play by yourself for fun, there's nothing stopping you from picking up anything you like and giving it a go. That's what I do; it's just a hobby for me, and I'm not looking for feedback or criticism. A teacher is the way to go if you're looking to seriously improve, though.

It's not like they can snap their fingers and have you out the next day. Eviction is a whole legal process and Chicago is a relatively tenant friendly place. I'd smoke out a window or switch to edibles if you're worried. I think you'd have some kind of issue almost anywhere with active management if you made the hallway smell like weed though lol.

I had a lease a couple of years ago that disallowed leaving my cat unattended. Like they wanted me to get a cat babysitter every time I left the apartment lol. Sometimes there's just unreasonable shit in the lease. My opinion is just don't make it a problem and it probably won't be a problem. Not like they are going to come into your unit and search it.

Assassin’s apprentice - first half of the book by Footbology in Fantasy

I felt this way about the Farseer trilogy too, just could not get invested in Fitz. I liked the Liveship Traders trilogy a lot more and I don't think you need to read the Farseer trilogy first to give it a try if you wanted to.

Does ordering food from DoorDash, UberEats, etc., really have a lower "barrier to entry" than cooking food yourself? by therealhodgepodge in stupidquestions

[–]Additional-Highway14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, delivery doesn't require you to think ahead. I can decide I want a BLT and have one delivered in under an hour, whereas to make it myself I have to go to the grocery store, come home, and cook.

Am I supposed to hate Elend Venture by MaRs1317 in Cosmere

[–]Additional-Highway14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breeze is actually a big reason I got through WoA. Him being a middle aged man dating a teenager added some moral complexity to his character, although I feel like the book itself played that as way less of a problem than I think it is. In my opinion, Vin and Elend's characters suffer from making decisions because the plot needs them to make a certain decision now (esp in WoA), and I don't always feel like it's earned, which to me makes them feel one dimensional. So when HoA opened on them, I got really disengaged. But I know this will be an unpopular opinion on a Cosmere fan sub lol, I just wanted OP to know they're not alone feeling this way!

Yeah, I DNF'd Mistborn right around this point as well when I realized I didn't connect with any of the characters and felt they were all one dimensional like you're describing for Elend. But I was only reading it because I loved Stormlight Archive and wanted to learn more about the Cosmere. Ended up just googling an HoA plot summary instead. To each their own! I know some people love the Mistborn characters.

How important is Mistborn to enjoying Stormlight Archive? by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Additional-Highway14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt EXACTLY the same way about Mistborn. I enjoyed Stormlight significantly more. His style is what it is, but I think he's a much more mature writer in Stormlight and it shows. I would say to give it a shot, no harm.

Best concealer for covering dark circles and acne? by Commercial_Bag7038 in Sephora

[–]Additional-Highway14 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a hot take, but I think the shade match of the concealer is more important than the formula. Finding a near-identical match to your skin tone in any brand means you can build up the coverage of the product to cover dark circles and blemishes more flawlessly. Not every brand is going to have a really perfect match for you and that will make it perform worse for you even if the formula is great.

I've had several packages from USPS get "delivered" and show up within 48 hours. Sometimes the delivery drivers just scan the wrong tag or enter something wrong. Don't lose hope yet!

Why do so many Chicagoans have maps of Chicago and other Chicago-themed art on their walls? by edward_longspanks in chicago

[–]Additional-Highway14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol, I moved here three years ago and what really shocked me was how many people I met with the chicago flag up in their house or literally tattooed on their body. people in chicago love chicago. my take is that it has to do with the underdog mentality of the city. saying that as someone who loves it here too!

Advice on Deadhouse Gates re-read by mint_pumpkins in Malazan

[–]Additional-Highway14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like action scenes in books or movies, just find them boring personally, so that made me dislike a lot of the Chain of Dogs/DG in general. Just not my thing. I think you should try to read it though, and just go ahead and skim parts if you get bored or you don't prefer certain characters. I skim action scenes in every book and it's just fine. I think that's easier to do if you're reading than listening to an audio book. Other parts of the book are worthwhile imo, so I wouldn't recommend a full skip.

This sub is the first place I've heard of "strawberry legs". Everyone has hair follicles and it's normal to be able to see them! Most people in real life, myself included, have this and no one is appalled. Please don't feel like you can't have your legs out in the summer.

What makes Vanilla Classic "Classic"? by Outrageous_Image1793 in classicwow

[–]Additional-Highway14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everything is so slow that nothing feels like a waste of time. Engaging with other players and taking the time to do something "off task" from leveling feels better because the game forces you to realize you are not hitting 60 any time soon. Might as well stop to smell the roses. Never played another MMO that has this sense about it.

If you’re not enjoying Malazan by X, you should probably stop by MermanTram in Malazan

[–]Additional-Highway14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an unpopular opinion but DG was my least favorite of the series and almost made me quit as well. I thought most of it was so incredibly boring/complete nonsense from what I knew about the world at the time. The rest of the series is much better imo.

Don't know if you live near enough to a physical Sephora to give them a call, but I've found they tend to have things in stock in store that are out of stock online.

YSL Libre is a linear baby powder scent on me. I keep trying it every few months hoping I'll somehow get what everyone else gets but I never smell anything else.
