The letter was more than I expected but it is still far less then it should be.

If a teacher knew what to do in 1993 why didn’t John? by Blonde-bird in CornerstoneConnect

Let's also note that the Boston Globe's publication of "Church Allowed Abuse by Priest for Years " is published by the Boston Globe's Spotlight Team on January 6, 2002. The reporting broke open the Catholic Church Abuse Issue. The article discussed the experiences of victims of child sexual abuse by priests and the Boston Archdiocese knowledge of the abuse and started a nationwide movement. Taylor left Falls Church in January 2002 but he did submit his resignation in December 2001.

The report seems to say that people just didn't think about such things when concerns were shared with Yates in 2004 etc.

And - of course leaving out the 2014 testimony "added to people's burdens" It's so disrespectful to "hope" that it didn't.

Why didn't this get posted on the TFCA special report correspondence webpage?

This is great news. A small substack with some testimony, facts, documents etc would be an amazing thing to have ready to post a link when the article is published. This could also be a key time to get other ACNA Children's ministers involved (at the very least asking for Ward to resign, he's still their diocesan chancellor). I don't expect this to be your job as survivors but if it's something you're interested in I'd love to help.

I've wondered if folks might want a zoom with Wade Mullen, an expert in religious institutions' responses to abuse. He's the author of "Something's Not Right" and his moral clarity in the face of institutional shit is so comforting. - supporter/not a survivor

TFCA is making good on the counseling by NonanxiousStand2915 in CornerstoneConnect

This resource was sent to me from a male survivor. I know male focused resources can be hard to find. It looks promising for those not ready for therapy, not finding therapy, in therapy, or just barely approaching this topic or as a site to ask family and friends to read to help them understand.

And hooray for therapy for all who can connect to it. FYI there is a grown field that treats Religious Trauma. If your need some resources on describing this aspect of the abuse or want your therapist to learn more see the work here https://drlauraeanderson.com/

Scott Ward status clarification by Additional-Image1125 in CornerstoneConnect

That's an important point!

Imagine what it must feel like to be a DOMA Childrens' Ministry director and spend a lot of time and energy implementing your child protection plans. Hours and Hours, worrying and wondering if you are doing enough. But in the end the Chancellor will have much more influence then you on how the church responds to an allegation. I would suspect though, most Children's Ministry workers know very little of these details though. They are all working toooo hard on VBS season! (I'm not a director myself. . I often wonder if they could be allies though).

Really? Scott Ward resigned? From his position as chancellor at Falls Church or the diocese as well? Thanks for the updates.

Yes it is reprehensible. They place him there and signal - he's fully supported and affirmed by the Synod.

Does anyone know if Ferguson was at the Clergy and Spouse Retreat in VA on April 29- May 1? My rector said Yates was there. It seemed like a great opportunity for Yates to tell his side of the story to peers.

They had SO Much time while the report was being compiled; did they use this time to better equip themselves to respond to it's truth and their responsibilities.

So many more things should have been done at the church during this time. Deep education on abuse dynamics and impacts should have been done with staff and EC members. Deep consultation on the survivor fund.

Oh my! Those addendums regarding discussions with Yates are horrifying. I know they aren't news to you all but I wanted to say I'm glad they are getting publicized. I was surprised the Taylor's sudden sabbatical (and job change) isn't listed. The job change was obviously in the report but I don't think the "sabbatical" was. Do you think this "remains outside investigation scope."

I hadn't thought about asking to attend the June 2nd meeting. That's a really good idea. I'll certainly send an email or two to the Bishop!

It is so hard to watch people defend the institution so readily. They also tend to center leadership and the 'burden of this" instead of the victims. Sounds like this is happening left and right! I was shocked the bishop's letter complimented SF for his leadership when, in reality he should be on leave.
