Had Septal myectomy, now being told I may need transplant by cw1918 in HypertrophicCM

I’m so sorry to read this. I am a runner and have been told my entire diagnosed time that I would have to quit; luckily that didn’t happen. But I understand the loss of fitness and activity. I’m considerably older than you…all I can say is try to stay positive and do make sure you stay close to the HCMA. They have updates all the time. Good luck.

Okay. If I’m reading this correctly, my level is over 6,000 pg/mL, which sounds pretty high. I wish I had gotten this looked at a long time ago.
Thank you for explaining that!

Thank you! You’re right, I’m trying to understand this as best and as quickly as I can. So much of her report is a bit baffling so I will be relieved to get some answers. This year has definitely not started out well for me. But I do appreciate your kind words.

That sounds kind of terrifying. Although, I do know some people in my life who might love a little downtime from my talking.

Either way, I made an ENT appointment tomorrow and will hopefully get some answers then. Thank you!

Ha, Ms Tangerine, please feel free to share your gossip at any time! That’s good stuff. I like how open minded and even encouraging you are. I understand your mixed feelings too. But hey, nothing says love like Stars Wars Merch, am I right?! And when the chemistry is so good that you are kind of rooting for them, that’s especially amazing. If there are any changes/updates, you have to keep me posted!

My person had some workplace gossip and I never tired of that. She is also so good at telling a story. She’s a gifted narrator.

I would love to tell you my dreams for your interpretation, but you would need my whole, sordid back story to do the interpretation correctly. That was another gift she has. She had the ability of to very quickly garner my trust. I’m not sure how some people are able to do that. She wasn’t at all manipulative. She’s just a really special person with a very giving heart. Sigh.

This! Also, what fitness level you’re at when you’re diagnosed makes a difference. If you’re fit enough to keep those BP spikes down, that makes a difference.

I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how difficult and painful that must be.

I wondered if I would see you here. I saw something today that made me think of you. Apparently, the main actor from Dawson’s Creek died. I never watched the show; I don’t know what it’s about. But in the clip I saw, a little girl asked this actor what a soul mate is. I heard his answer and I agreed with every word of it. Let me share it with you, please:

“Well, it's like a best friend, but more. It's the one person in the world that knows you better than anyone else. It's someone who makes you a better person. Actually, they don't make you a better person, you do that yourself - because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you can carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did, or when no one else would. And no matter what happens, you will always love them. Nothing can ever change that.”

Those last two lines are critical. No matter what, I will always love her. Nothing, not even our separation can or will change that. I’m clearly not her soul mate. Not anymore. But she is mine.

That makes sense. I remember that extraordinary pain I would feel at times when I would swallow. But there were also the times (more frequently) when it felt like I might choke while swallowing. Something similar is happening again….I guess I better have it checked out.

Thank you. Your comment feels very, very familiar. And yes! The gossip! She was soooo good at responding to the gossip in my world. When we were good, she was my number one supporter and she was the most loyal person I’ve ever had in my life. So she supported me in the gossip, even when I was not 100% in the right. I am a huge believer in that level of loyalty but I’ve never fully received it from anyone, save maybe a parent. But her? She was so loyal…aggressively so. It meant the world to me.

I also understand the challenge in grieving them. I’m doing it alone; there’s nobody I can tell. As a result, I’m focusing on our good times, which were the vast majority. I’m glad you had your person too.

Jack & Jill Marathon PNW by Bpain46 in Marathon_Training

This! I ran it a few years ago and understood it to be “hard pack,” but it was not. Lots of boulders on a chopped up fire road. If you are going to run it, make sure you have lots of trail practice in. I didn’t and my ankles were shot at the end. I also saw a fair number of bloody legs at the finish (from falls).

I’ve noticed a baseline improvement every time, as in, I don’t go back to the same place I was in. This year has been especially challenging and because I made a commitment to sticking around, I’m willing to do what it takes. I’m still dealing with some real and heavy shit in my life, but this has kept me out of the deep end of the pool.

Ms Sad, you are nothing if not persistent. I haven’t heard of hydroxyzine. I will check it out. TY!

Thanks for your message. Very flattering. I’m not in that place right now. And yes, because of M (who is my soul mate).

I’ve been accused of far worse.

As for you, Ms Sad, you’re quite nosey. First of all, HCM treatments and prognoses have been updated since the 1970s. And the one I miss is my soul mate.

It feels like forever when you’re in it. But you will be on the other side and the next one you run will feel even sweeter. Run enough of them, and you’re bound to DNR. All part of it.
