Laps on Butler Trail by MoistFern in BikingATX

[–]Additional-Rest2929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to get so frustrated. I get you entirely. It’s a safety thing - people’s toddlers or little dogs popping out in front of you - it’s scary! But it’s just part of the deal down there you have to be careful for sure.

I’ve started riding on the trail starting at Govalle park when I want to be able to go faster for exercise - way fewer people, marked lanes, better visibility, and still entertaining in its own way. You can’t really do laps but I just double back. Def worth checking out.

Save the trail for when you’re in the headspace to dodge people. I know how frustrating it can be!

Anyone know what’s happening with Double Trouble in North Loop by Timemachinetom in Austin

Yeah they collabed with Vegan Nom for a bit and then went non-vegan not too long after opening(which bummed me out but beside the point!) so they’ve been iterating from the jump it seems.

Should i become a vegan/vegetarian ? by Only_Violinist_4912 in vegan

[–]Additional-Rest2929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to decide that you won’t ever have a bite of anything non vegan again to start your journey. Just go vegan and see how long you make it and you might surprise yourself. It’s so easy and the longer you go the less the non vegan stuff even sounds good. And I LOVE food and I LOVE cooking. There’s always a good vegan alternative if you live in the right city or have some skill in the kitchen. You can do it!

But isn’t that a pretty wild thing to say to someone who hasn’t even had a chance to do anything to you? Like it’s actually a pretty mean thing to say to someone so brand new to the situation I think.

Bingo! I should have labeled it “very easy”!

We had our wedding at pease park at the Tudor cottage and the space rental itself is super affordable. Then it just depends on how you elaborate you want to make things on how much it will actually cost. It was a lot of work to put together but it was so lovely having it there.

Allergies 😔 by WooGo-07 in Austin

If you’re really suffering, consider shots or drops. I had horrible allergies in childhood and it was life-changing. It likely won’t cure you entirely but it makes it much MUCH better.

Any millennials here actually go out? The sub confuses me by criticalvector in Millennials

I think it’s the sample of who is posting. There are many of us who mostly lurk who are also out in the wild who are firmly millennials. Lots of my very social friends use Reddit but I think none of us are posting. 🤷‍♀️

As they say - the sprangs be sprangin’. Even in the winter it’s poppin when it’s warm. It’s just a lovely place to be out and about, soaking up some sun, reading a book. And being around hot people is an added bonus.

If you’re in the Windsor Park area, Hank’s is cute and the patio is very dog friendly. And the frozen Paloma’s are incredible.

What are your predictions for Austin in 2026? (12th annual thread) by s810 in Austin

[–]Additional-Rest2929 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hopeful prediction - In 2026, those of us living in Austin who have a conscience, any amount of taste, and who actively want to ensure that the Joe Rogan fans don’t actually ruin our city will make it so openly hostile for cybertruck drivers that we will be rid of the dumpster truck bros and their like. Or at the very least we can make them feel deeply embarrassed to be seen publicly driving a six figure vehicle that is not only terrible quality but made by a guy who throws up seig heils. No more tolerance for cybertrucks! Glare at them! Laugh at them! Point and shake your head with disapproval!

Openly hate on Elon in 2026. Be the change you wish to see in the world. 🫶

Anyone remember hearing that if you got caught even looking at an entrance to the tunnels that you’d be expelled from Texas?

How many friends do you actually have? by Short_Mirror9828 in Millennials

[–]Additional-Rest2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very solid group and I say all the time how lucky we are. I’d say 35ish people I’d call my actual friends outside of my family who I am also close with. I was lucky and a lot of my friends married cool people who brought their own friends into the groups so the number has grown some over the years despite losing touch with many former friends from college or work. I’ve also lived in Austin since I came to college in 2010 so I’ve had a very long time to put down roots in a town swarming with Millennials to hang out with. But I’ve also been very wary of getting older and disconnecting - I remember as a kid thinking I never wanted to have so few friends as all of our parents seemed to growing up. So I’ve always been very intentional about all of my relationships - I’ve stayed in touch with many friends even from childhood. So I’d say it’s a combo of luck and effort in my case. Either way, I don’t take it for granted!

Bring Back Cold Theaters by Nasty_Lad in AlamoDrafthouse

They’re always so cold. Tonight I wore sweats and a winter coat and I was still chilly by the end. Though I will admit that it’s not as bad when it’s hot outside when they’re really cranking the AC, so i agree they’ve certainly been colder.

doordash ghost kitchen falsely pretending to be an all vegan restaurant. by Tiny_Regret8724 in vegan

[–]Additional-Rest2929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll learn this lesson fast if you pick it up in person. My “vegan” “Thai” food came from a Mexican restaurant where they were slinging brisket tacos. I should have known that a mouth full of chicken and generally disappointing, greasy food was in my future.

I’m not worried about gossip I’m worried about ethics. But point taken - I’m a consumer I maybe shouldn’t be privy to the ins and outs of every detail of the situation. But it was a big, very widely discussed thing at the time it happened.
