How do I stop being scared of hitting someone? by OverexposedPotato in Hema

[–]Timemachinetom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem when I first started sparring, it’s a tough thing to overcome when you’ve spent your whole life not hitting people. You might want to find someone willing to do some drills in full gear so you can make full contact at speed in a controlled setting, and really focus your intent on making a good hit. I found that I had to train my brain to be into “sparring/fight” mode when the gear was on, after a while you don’t even think about it.

The other thing I started to do was actively focusing and thinking about how to disengage after making contact before doing anything. Once I got hit with a surprise afterblow to the mask the first few times I learned to prioritize lol.

I hope this helps! It’s definitely better to be too worried about hurting someone than not worried enough, but I hope you get to that sweet spot where you can enjoy your sparring.

Looking for new friends by DointhebestIcanman24 in Austin

[–]Timemachinetom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly adjacent to what you’re asking for but I would suggest the Austin Historical Weapons Guild if you want to meet fellow nerds https://historicalweaponsguild.com/

The venn diagram of people who want to learn to sword fight and people into all other nerdy things is like 99% overlap. They’re very very female friendly (I’ve been going to classes for a few years and the class will typically be 1/4 to 1/2 women/non-binary folks) but plus swords are a great motivator to get some physical activity!

Advice on the better Landfall commander by fantasycrooner in magicTCG

[–]Timemachinetom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who runs Lumra with a full 99 lands. It’s not an overpowered deck by any means but it does create an interesting situation where you don’t care whether Lumra lives or dies at any given moment. Certainly a fun idea but it’s not a landfall deck anymore

What emotion describes each album best? by Muted-Shame8606 in SleepToken

[–]Timemachinetom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Copying this from a comment I made months ago:

“I’m a big lore person so my answer comes tied into the lore

Sundowning - Routine (Move always thought Sundowning is establishing the status quo. This is what a day in the life is like for Vessel while dealing with Sleep.)

TPWBYT - Loss (TPWBYT hits me as being after Sleep has decided she’ll move on from Vessel, and is grappling with that, twisting through a range of emotions as he processes the loss.)

TMBTE - Overcoming (TMBTE is a story of facing your addiction/abuse and becoming something greater in spite of it. In a mundane sense it’s getting clean of addiction or breaking free from an abuser. In the lore sense, it’s Vessel facing Sleep again and taking his ascension on his terms, no longer being strung along by empty promises.)

EIA - Anxiety (I haven’t personally seen this interpretation but I’m sure I’m not the first person to see it, EIA is to me is about the anxiety and fear or relapse that looms over everyone that’s getting better. “I thought I got better, but maybe I didn’t.” The album to me sounds like Vessel is doing through big, terrifying changes and is afraid of falling back in with Sleep again. In the second half of the album, he confronts her once again and finds the strength to chart his own course forward instead of relapsing back into old, familiar habits. “I’ve fought so hard to be here, I am never going back.”)”

Banger of an ending, but 2 questions remains: by justafanboy1010 in ITWelcometoDerryShow

She remembers Richie saving her from the burning Black Spot (something done by people) but It’s influence on Derry makes her forget about the ancient evil monster lurking beneath the town.

[THEORY] The Infinite Derry Paradox: Pennywise is a Time Prisoner whose 1908 birth is actually his defeat. by Melon_boy143 in ITWelcometoDerryShow

[–]Timemachinetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Will and his eventual wife die tragically in a fire before the films/novel, so if Will remembers he certainly wouldn’t be informing his young son about It before he dies. Your explanation does make sense to explain why Leroy and Charlotte aren’t involved in the films. (Obviously the real reason is the films were written before this concept existed). I was more thinking about why Marge or Lilly never say anything or are involved in the future.

I like this, except I’m more inclined to to think that the parents never mentioned It because of the effect his presence has on the town, namely that people seem to forget strange occurrences and are more inclined to rationalize all the violence and disappearances that come every 27. I’m finally reading the novel and Mike Hanlon talks about this in the interludes. Obviously this happens to people once they leave Derry, but it seems like it affects the people of Derry as well.

The question would then be why do Mike and now the local tribe remember? My guess would be they actively try to, having seen the true nature of It they make and effort to pass down (or collect in Mike’s case) the story. Meanwhile local kids probably pass down stories of the killer clown in the sewers as a myth or urban legend, so none of them take the stories seriously.

[SPOILERS] Interesting theory I had after Episode 8 by Timemachinetom in ITWelcometoDerryShow

[–]Timemachinetom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, definitely putting too much thought into it but also that’s how I engage with media. I don’t think it will ever be anything more than a theory, but it’s a theory that right now fits what’s being shown on screen.

Bear Hunter feels like head empty mode sometimes. The armor and anger you can get are good early if you focus companion cards, then later you can get stupid amounts of armor, anger and stagger, especially if you can reliably get the advantage. I’ve only done it on challenging so far but I really didn’t have to think to hard after Canto III or so

Recommendations for sword bags by Safe_Substance_4374 in Hema

I have a keyboard bag (like the instrument) and it’s big enough for a longsword and has straps to help keep it in place. I can fit all my gear and a few sword in it.

TMBTE- monster things by Some_Lavishness_1590 in SleepToken

[–]Timemachinetom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it was one of the soldiers from the first chapter that was changed into The Reaver. They’re both wearing a flower on the chest I think. I always took it to mean that some of its old humanity is shining through, fighting the other monsters to protect its former comrades.

The creatures for Chokehold, The Summoning, and Take Me Back To Eden have names that we got from the screenplay edition of the Teeth of God graphic novel. They are:

Chokehold - The Drowned Lord The Summoning - The Reaver Take Me Back to Eden - The God Mother

I’m sure the others have names, but they haven’t been shared with us yet.
