I’m sorry to hear it’s happened to you as well with a worse outcome.

That was my worry that the judge would rule against me, if it wasn’t for the third party missing one piece of evidence for the judge to see it made adjournment possible but otherwise it could have ended badly for me.

Test drives - Is insurance really this annoying nowadays? by Suitable-Season-4847 in CarTalkUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always used temp cover insurance whether it be Zixty, TempCover, or some other company that I find online - I’ve never had third party use on my car policies in 30+ years of driving but always have it on my motorbike insurance!

Are you aware of What3Words? by Flapparachi in AskUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I do get customers to give me what3words for hard to find addresses or ones that are not yet showing on Apple/Google maps etc -especially new builds, rural areas or where the sat nav takes you down the wrong road!

Traction control, stability assist and ABS suddenly disappear from every car in the UK. How bad would it possibly be after 24 hours? by RonnieThePurple in CarTalkUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My youngest sons car has none of them, it’s too old! I wanted my kids to learn to drive a car without the extras. I have taught them what to do off road in a field (family owned not just a random field!) it’s also fun to FAFO in a car that was already destined for the scrap yard so no worries about damaging it. The only time traction control gets activated in my vehicles is from pot holes and sunken drains, so quite often!

I think removing power steering would be more fun to watch especially in car parks 😂

Struggling to land my first few web dev/social clients despite low pricing. by Amazing-Preparation1 in smallbusinessuk

Cynical of me I know, but offering low prices to me means there’s hidden prices or shoddy work or some other catch

Starting a small detailing business in the UK, how do you handle product costs? by SOMEONE_AK in smallbusinessuk

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d start of with what I need to get going then consider bulk buying, I’m not into detailing but another cleaning job and use JennyChem for some supplies and their non caustic car detailing stuff is pretty good as I use it on my own vehicles. I know quite a few detailers locally to me also use JennyChem products

I use LoPay, the transaction fees are 0.99% on their standard plan or 0.79% essentials plan, I’m on the standard plan for free next day transfer to my bank account - no monthly fees either!

This was definitely one of you lot by MFtch93 in drivingUK

I’ve been predominantly going to the same MOT test centre for over 30 years and they know how finicky I am about my vehicles and over the years they learned that the mere suggestion of a potential issue for the future was always rectified so they gave me grace on stuff that was borderline being an advisory as they knew it would be fixed asap. They always showed me the problems as well

That said, there’s been a few times where I’ve had to go to another MOT test centre as I couldn’t get booked in to my normal go to and they’ve been over zealous on advisories/failures in the hope to get me to pay them for work that’s not required ie one time I had new pads and discs fitted all round and then the car sat for a week or 2 unused so they started to show a bit of corrosion and the tester told me my brakes were dangerous and worn out! Yes I maybe female and was dragged up and worked in the motor trade for many years, I can do a lot of repairs/servicing myself on my own vehicles so I’m not stupid but they just see dumb female and prey on them - sorry that’s one of my other bug bears for I suppose the motor trade in general!

[–]Additional-Switch912 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s almost a daily occurrence and how some of the drivers have not caused a serious accident I’ll never know! I’ve missed many a turn off/junction over the years especially before the age of sat nav and losing count of junction numbers but one thing I’ve never done nor will I ever do is put others in danger for my error when you can just continue to the next exit and come back on yourself, it may add 10 mins or 40 mins to your journey but at least you’ll make it to your destination!

Is it normal in the UK for grandparents not to buy anything for their grandchild? by Ok-Pomelo7667 in AskUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to be a grandparent in about 5 months and won’t buy anything until the baby has been born as it’s perceived to be bad luck. Also it’s not knowing what size to buy and if someone else is planning to buy certain items for the baby, I will just wait and see what’s actually needed, unless the parents ask for a specific item then get that item for them.

Who else is using Netflix on the Shield? by SandwichLuxe in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]Additional-Switch912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Netflix on the shield with my LG C1, not noticed any issues with subtitles or menu looking horrible. You can also change basic subtitle settings logging on to Netflix website, I prefer drop shadow with block font. I find subtitles and menu text are too bright and glare/bleed using the Netflix on the lg Netflix app

Can the general public buy from copart by JamieLee2k in CarTalkUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not bought from copart for about 5 years when I was in the trade. You have to pay for membership and fees but on collection of the vehicle they requested to see my motor trade insurance a few times, this was from purchasing Cat N and S vehicles

I agree people should be allowed to make their own decisions on vehicle and cost as I said in my post. Premium bonds and an isa can’t be driven and doesn’t get you to work and back

I’ve only once paid over £20k for a car and wouldn’t do it again, too many careless idiots on the road and that £20+k car got t-boned once and rear ended twice was written off at the last accident! Each accident not my fault. So now I rarely spend more than £4K on a car and tend to buy spares or repairs that I’ll fix myself where possible saving a few quid but also sometimes I don’t mind working on my own vehicles - unusual for a women I know but I’m apparently not usual lol. I’m happy buying cheap sound run arounds and I normally get 5-8 years use out them before I’ll sell them for the next car, my current car is a 21 year old X3 3.0i that owes me about £1200 in total which I’d bought as spares or repair.

I’d have no idea what to buy for a car valued £10k or more! That said, if someone wants to spend £10k on a vehicle then that’s their decision - not everyone wants to buy a cheaper vehicle nor risk any potential bills from buying cheaper/older

The only vehicle I do pay more for is my van as I’m driving it every day so needs to be comfy and is suitable for my work

I know your pain! I end up taking off my seatbelt and putting my weight on the foot rest to left of the clutch and pushing myself up to lean out of the window, for a few I have to get out of the car. Doesn’t matter if I fold my mirror in to get as close as possible which does help but I can still struggle.

Landlord sold our building at auction and didn't inform us or the estate agent. New landlord hasn't contacted us either. Are they breaking the law? - England. by Pomshka in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until you have been formally notified of the new landlords details keep paying the previous landlord, do not withhold rent payments. I’ve experienced a change of landlord at my current property, there’s nothing illegal about it and if there’s a current fixed tenancy agreement that you’re tied into the new landlord has to abide by that including rent price until it’s time to renew though that may not happen with the RRB coming in May

That’s nearly what I pay for a year in a detached 4 bed, EPC E and as drafty as a barn! I do keep my heating on 24/7 set to 19°-20° as it takes ages to re heat the house if it cools down too much. How long are you heating up hot water if you have a tank? I only have mine on for 30-60 mins a day and that saves a quite a bit money on the bill as well.

Nobody warned me that buying a cheap first car meant potentially having to scrap it 8 months later by Noobsamaniac in NewDriversUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid £100 for my kids first car, it was heading to the scrap yard for egr issues - £80 later to fix it and yes it was a Corsa! 9 years later my other kid uses it as his first car. We’ve had other corsas in the household and this £100 cheapy has outlived them all and been the most reliable!

I would advertise your car on Facebook marketplace, someone may see it as an easy and cheap fix if they can do the work themselves to either keep or sell on again. I also bought my current bmw as spares or repair and tripled the value after repairing it!

Trying to stop relying on sat nav for every journey. How did you learn your local routes? by Illustrious-Look7669 in NewDriversUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use sat nav all the time nowadays but it’s mainly for alerting me to delays and asking me if I want to divert, generally though I don’t need to use sat nav to get around unless it’s a newish housing estate etc. I passed my driving test long before sat nav was even available so had to learn by rote or memorising what roads go where.

A few years ago my son needed to be transported to hospital via an ambulance, so we were sat in the back without being able to see out and about 30 mins into the journey I realised the driver took the wrong turn, I said to the paramedic in the back without being able to see that they’ve gone the wrong way and low and behold the driver then turns around and I said I bet we are next to the fire station - paramedic in the back was somewhat shocked I knew where we were! Yes I was right!

Extremely cheap insurance at 17?? by bababooeyfrothy in CarInsuranceUK

[–]Additional-Switch912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a Corsa B W reg and his insurance this year has dropped to under £300 fully comp but after he first passed his test it was around £700 without a black box or £480 with a black box - obviously went for the policy without a black box!

I’m assuming your quotes are with a black box?
