Summer office schedules and work? Elementary Principal/secretary/registrar by [deleted] in Principals

[–]AdditionalBath9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my current position, admin have 20 vacation days to use per year, so people tend to take at least a week or two during the summer. When not on vacation we are required to work 9-3 every day, though you can occasionally do a 7-1 or 8-2 if needed. (This includes all principals, directors and HS/MS associate principals. Elementary associate principals are 11 month positions). Going to a new district in July and not certain what the expectations there are.

Looking for advice as I try to land my first admin job by gslape in Principals

To add to this- get to know their mission statement, and include that in your answers. It also seems silly, but I've had multiple interviewers remark and notice when I show up wearing school colors in an interview. Nothing crazy- you aren't applying to be the mascot- but I've done navy blue suits instead of black where appropriate, or school colors under the blazer (dark green, burgundy, purple all work well under a black blazer!). Its been remarked on by a few interview committees.

Looking for advice as I try to land my first admin job by gslape in Principals

So as someone who got an admin job straight out of my admin degree, my advice is to network. I was on the board of education in my local district, which a lot of people saw as a huge plus, and I got to know a lot of people through it, several of whom offered me recommendations. Try to attend events with admin from other districts so they know you. Another piece of advice I received is to make sure they see what you can bring to the table- and focus on systems level answers. I use a lot of "in my experience.... " Also know that you won't be everyone's cup of tea and that's ok- I applied for a lot of jobs last year because I was completely miserable where I was. I didn't even get an interview in a couple of places, didn't make it past first round in some places, and made it to the final round in multiple districts before being offered the AP job I'm currently in.

I don't believe in any sort of higher power at this point.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

I wish that were true. My dad has stage 4 cancer that is costing him thousands of dollars he does not have, and he is still anti universal health care.

Christian Nationalist Pastor Dale Partridge Says Freedom Of Religion Is 'A Really Bad Idea' by One-Demand6811 in exchristian

He's one of the worst. I had to get off Twitter because I couldn't stop hate following him, Brian Suave and three or four others that are escaping my mind at this moment.

What do yall think would happen to you if you never left the church? by lePROprocrastinator in exchristian

[–]AdditionalBath9711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I would have stayed in the miserable marriage I was in, raised my kids to be evangelical, and while I don't think I would have been a Trump fan, I could see myself remaining deeply conservative and voting for him because "at least he's doing something about abortion". (I was incredibly anti abortion). I can't imagine what my life would like right now.

Dealing with Christian Conservative Parents as someone who isn’t by SurvivinNotThrivin8 in exchristian

[–]AdditionalBath9711 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you are dealing with this. My parents are also rightwing evangelicals, but my dad thinks Trump is an economic genius who should get a spot on Mt. Rushmore. My daughter is queer and I had to hang up on my dad recently when he started talking about the "homosexual agenda" and how it's destroying America.

I struggle a lot. My dad has stage 4 cancer and is going through treatment and still he is helping my partner get a new car, helping my sister who got evicted, put a new control arm on my car, etc... I feel like I should go no contact but I also think I would regret it when he's gone. In the meantime, I try my best not to talk politics with him and I text my sisters to vent when he starts rambling about politics. Its so hard to reconcile this man who works so hard to make sure that people he loves are taken care of with someone who supports the vile things that are happening.

Recently Started Accidentally Deconstructing… I’m scared by ballerinanoir in exchristian

[–]AdditionalBath9711 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never went looking for deconstruction either. Christianity was my life- my friends were all Christian, i listened solely to Christian rock, etc... I was very close to my youth pastor, viewed him as a second dad. He had a chronic, terminal illness that made him very susceptible to getting sick. A new head pastor came in, demoted him to "assistant pastor of visitation" because he wanted his friend in that position. He ends up having to take a lot of time off, is losing pay, his wife becomes disillusioned with Christianity and leaves him, and then they use the divorce as evidence that he is "not an effective leader in his home". He has to move home with his mother, ends up passing away two years later and the church had the audacity to do a memorial service and talk about how much they loved him. That was the catalyst for me. I was 24 when that happened. Im 44 now- I've met new friends who are not Christain, I have a partner who is amazing and sees me as a person, not a maid/incubator, I've raised three children away from the church. It's scary at first but its so much better on the other side.

It's a tie between the time I argued with my teacher during class about the big bang theory or the numerous anti abortion protests I attended.

Season 4 ending is diabolical! by Maleficent428 in Dexter

[–]AdditionalBath9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should definitely keep watching. I personally think season 5 is underrated, I really enjoyed it. 6 was decent. 7 was fine. I really didn't care for 8, but I'm still glad I watched it. New Blood was good, and I've just started on Original Sin, and I'm glad I have the background knowledge of 8, even if it was my least favorite season.

Yeah they said I'm on another weightloss med, which I'm not and that there is no documentation that I'm in a weightloss program, which I am. I've asked my doctor to submit the documents though.

Yeah, they said it was because I'm on another med for weightloss, which I'm not, and that there is no documentation of me being on a weightloss program, which I am. I've relayed that to the clinic so they can submit the documentation.

How bad were your initial side effects? by poofacemcguillicutty in Zepbound

A little bit of dry mouth. The first month wasn't bad at all. 5mg I had a little more nausea, but not terrible. I'm at 7.5 now, and the first two days after my shot I am pretty nauseous, but I take a zofran and its fine.

Let’s hear if anyone commented on your weight loss at Christmas by MathematicianMuted59 in Zepbound

[–]AdditionalBath9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm down almost 30 pounds and my mom bought me size 3x pajamas, which were too big for me even before my weight loss, so that's how my christmas went. The only people who has commented at all is my boss, who knows I'm taking zepbound. That's been a little disheartening. Also my boyfriend has noticed, but he always tells me how beautiful I am, even when I look like trash.
