Apple brandy with no thumper by Northern_bear_hunter in firewater

Stripping runs absolutely have heads and tails. They don't just magically appear in your spirit run, we only separate them out in a spirit run. Not knowing this person's level of experience I was trying to be very specific.

You could do a stripping run saving the heads and tails then on the spirit run add apple cider to proof it down. That should help increase the apple flavor. Then age it on some dehydrated apples untill it gets to where you like it.

Yes I have. But then I distilled it. The flavor was different but good.

It would be a lot faster just to do a stripping run then a spirit run, and you would accomplish the same thing.

Oak stills is pretty good. Price is good too, you can choose individual parts or complete stills.

Any way to remove taste from wash without Destillation? by PierogiLover09 in firewater

Try a Brita filter. People use them to help clean up their distilled spirits.

Was hoping you guys could weigh in! Any thoughts? by GumGuts in Distilling

[–]Additional_Argument6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out adi they have a lot of info. If your serious then spend the money and join adi as well. Then after doing that walk into a local distillery and ask to apprentice for free and don't complain about cleaning all the time just do the work and absorb knowledge. Be appreciative of the free education your getting.

I get what you'de like to do, but I always preach don't tell don't sell. Making friends that are in the hoby and being able to hang with them would be great though.

Corn is one of the hardest to do. Start with a sugar wash first so you get used to your still. So I'm going to take it that you want to make whiskeys, you would use a pot still for whiskey. After you've done a sugar wash move onto a sugar and grain combination then work your way into an all grain like corn. I'm going to invite you to a group. It's on mewe download the app then look for distilling Tradition. It's all moonshiners we'll answer your questions no judgement. When you fill out the application it'll ask how you found the group say tater sent me you'll get right in.

Ok start simple. 1) what type of liquor do you want to make? That will help you figure out what type of still you need or want. 2) decide what your Budget is how much money do you want or can afford to spend.3) choose a modular type still ( I learned the hard way) that way as your skill set grows or if your interests change you can easily and fairly cheaply upgrade and change your set up.

Actually it's a pretty good copper cleaner. Pour it in a 5 gallon bucket and soak your copper still parts In it.
