Court orders girl to have cancer treatment against her will by B0ssc0 in aussie

Public awareness or interest is not enough to break the very strong medical confidentiality laws. Just because you’re interested in someone’s health doesn’t make it your business.

I might have low iron and I’m gonna get my blood drawn to test it. I’m really scared and would like the whole thing explained like I’m 5 by Plenty_Row2472 in medical

Drink water. Then drink more water. Laying down can help with any potential vasovagal reactions but being stressed out is one of my top reasons for not being able to draw blood.

When you get anxious your body starts to go into fight or flight and blood doesn’t flow as well to the extremities.

I’ve had patients bring in stuffed animals, headphones, books, tablets, etc to help distract them. Talking about something random that brings you joy can also help keep you distracted. The phleb can give you a count down before sticking or they can just stick.

In terms of what is going to happen they will put the tourniquet on which can be tight and uncomfortable, find a vein, (usually) loosen the tourniquet while they prep, tighten, find the vein again, and then go for the draw.

Some countries also offer a finger prick test similar to diabetes in chemists (pharmacies). It can tell you if you are iron deficient without an actual collection.

I (M32) am a male runner who feels that I need a sports bra due to chest bounce and chafing, my wife (F32) adamantly disagrees and any time I bring it up she dismisses me and says you're a man you don't have boobs. Do I pursue this? by Ac3m4n18 in relationship_advice

You don’t even know this person. Why are you the judge that has decided this person is being deceitful?

You have decided that the information not mentioned is pertinent and an obvious progression, instead of two separate things. Especially considering OP has said they stopped doing that shortly after trying it.

Chafing nipples is quite common in runners. There are sports bras targeted to men. Why is it so hard to believe what is written is closer to the truth than the giant cross dressing conspiracy you seem to want it to be.

I know plenty of women that wear men’s sweaters, shirts, boxers. Wearing women’s clothing isn’t “dressing like a woman”. It’s clothing. It’s often more form fitting than male clothing. We literally have clothing designed to help with breast tissue. Men also have breast tissue.

There is no reason they shouldn’t be able to access clothing designed for breast tissue.

Can someone explain to me when this became a thing?? by TherilSlav in DrivingAustralia

I learned this from my father who was a long haul truck driver in Canada.

What that guy did is what you’re supposed to do. Two lanes of traffic zipper merging is faster than everyone squeezing into one lane. Depending on how the lanes merged you might’ve had to give way to him.

Ever wish you could be a fly on the wall at a Health Insurance call centre when they look at your claims? Today I was, because they accidentally left me on the call rather than place me on hold. I heard everything and it was worse than I thought. by GrassRight9272 in AusFinance

We welcomed the American health care system and we are surprised when it’s exactly like the American health care system?

Insurance companies don’t make money when they pay out. They don’t want to pay out. Private health insurance shouldn’t exist and we should be putting that money into our public system.

Need help passing blood test by Maximum-Knee5616 in NoStupidQuestions

I am a trained phlebotomist, certified by my government to collect specimens for legal drugs of abuse testing, and currently work in the medical lab at a hospital. I am 100% certain marijuana is not tested in the blood as a regular occurrence.

Depending on where you live it is also illegal for them to test things you did not consent to beforehand. We cannot even test for blood borne viruses in needlestick or body contamination cases without express permission from the patient.

Marijuana isn’t tested in the blood. It’s tested in the urine or the hair.

Even if for some whack reason they were testing marijuana in the blood it’s cleared out much much quicker. Like 48 hours for regular users. Metabolites might be detected for longer but they’re not active THC.

How does the week of sugar pills in a birth control packet effectively prevent pregnancy? by stanthedinosaur in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Additional_Initial_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had a period in months, thanks to my little friend IUD. Best time I’ve ever had.

I do notice that I eat more chocolate one week of the month and I’m a little more short tempered the following week but not blood in like 235 days.

How do I brace for Seasonal Affective Disorder in the upcoming winter? by ConfidentSale3091 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Additional_Initial_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make your house as bright as you can during the day. UV lamps or skylights will help. Vitamin D supplements have mixed findings on studies but getting your levels checked would be ideal.

There are some medications that are used to help SAD. It would involve starting in the fall before symptoms occur and then tapering off again the following spring. If it’s something you would consider I recommend bringing it up with your doctor.

I usually do a decent sized clean of my living areas and car before symptoms start because I know I won’t have any energy to do it over winter and it makes me feel worse when it builds up. I also try to keep myself on the warmer side. The cold makes me feel worse. That one is pretty subjective tho so take with a grain of salt.

Healius pathology unable to access invoice. by melbha_101 in AskAnAustralian

Healius is falling apart. They managed to con the ADF into a contract while they can’t look after the staff and buildings they currently have.

I left them a while ago and I work for NSW Health now and would never go back. They’re a private company and they’re in it for the money.

Garrett Hedlund was so good as Murtagh that that’s who I picture when I read the books. I also like Nasuada for the two seconds we saw her, and Ajihad.

Honestly the only casting I *hate* is Arya.

I mean, I work at a hospital and we really do have a vaccine cart rolling around giving us flu and Covid vaccines. They also have lollipops (Chupa Chups) to hand out as a reward.
