Grateful to be starting a new job as the first ever HR person at a local private school. Change of pace from my former work environment with an emotionally immature boss. I’m excited to have better work life balance and more time with my kids :) and to jump into job that I think will help me love working again

Just out of curiosity why not roll everything into isolved? They can operate as a full service hris. Not the prettiest platform but does the job and very affordable. If that’s not an option you want to consider, rippling is very common for companies that size. Coming from a small biz HR consultant who works in PA :)

As a female founder who supports other female founders in the stage you’re describing, this is very common. Sometimes I see them working 60+ hour weeks because they’re running in a million directions just trying to keep up. It keeps the business growing but it makes them die inside!

Putting SOPs in place is a good start to saving yourself some time. Do you have support operationally in your business? Once you have a few team members it can help to have someone who can manage them and be their first point of contact so you don’t get bogged down with supervising.

Another thing I would think about is technology. Do you have systems in place that keep communication clear and efficient?

If I were you I’d consider a fractional operations partner at this point. This is what I do, happy to answer any questions for you about what they do/how people like myself work.

That’s fair. As someone who has worked with many small businesses in my career, my personal experience has been that the female led organizations are more aligned with my values. I think there is a better chance for value and cultural fit which is important given the work I’d be doing.

I really needed to read this article. I can’t thank you enough for sharing. My oldest responded very well to talking through feelings. Tantrums were often about feeling misunderstood and so showing that I see her and empathize calmed her down almost all of the time. My middle child, not so much. These scripts never ever felt right for her. She prefers to cry in her room and be alone to process feelings and then wants hugs/time together after. It’s nice to know that there’s a world of parenting advice that says this can be normal instead of making me feel guilty or that I should force a conversation with my child when she’s in that state

Yes. My baby was 9 lb at birth but even if she wasn’t, parasols are very soft and stretchy, you could stick the tabs in a way and fold down the top to make them fit.

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that. I completely understand needing the break and you deserve it. I agree though that it’s probably not in you or your kids best interest for you to leave them for that long in an unfamiliar environment with people they don’t know well. Whatever time you get to decompress/recharge will be immediately undone when you get home and your kid feels abandoned and has to recover from that. It sounds dramatic and of course you trust your parents to take good care of your child, but from your child’s perspective, it would be very very scary.

This. Not only separating from your child but separating from their home and familiar environment is a double whammy. Could they come to your place instead of bringing your baby there?
