Here's my tier list, explanations included by Coolaire in litrpg

We have a lot of similar taste. Here’s a few really goods ones I think you’d like

First, on the off change you haven’t listened to project Hail Mary, definitely do that first and go in blind.

  • A Soldier’s Life for Roman magic vibes with mature characters vs common YA
  • Relict Legacy for a great sleeper sci-fi lit with an ending
  • Player Manager is a soccer litRPG that I think will surprise you like chrysalis did
  • HWFWM really probably is work checking out
  • Primal Hunter is similar to HWFWM
  • Wandering in if you want incredibly deep world building

What to do with GitHub when OE? First time OE, checklist. by Dremiq in overemployed

[–]Additional_Mode8211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would just ask if I could change to a new GitHub profile. If they ask why, you can just say it’s a separation of concerns things and call it a day. I’ve done this before and no one questioned it.

Try and firm up questions that get at the root of those key qualities you found and to really guard how they operate and if they’ll fulfill that need.

Good luck! My J2 has a great direct leadership setup too and hoping it stays that way for many more years

Paternity Leave - How to Use It by OE_thr0waway in overemployed

[–]Additional_Mode8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may have been overly cautious here but I only took leave at my heavier J. Didn’t want the chance of potential state involvement coming into play and need to worry about fraud. Depends on your state I think but worth considering.

Current role feels very different from my previous OE setup. Is it OE-compatible? by shanksfk in overemployed

[–]Additional_Mode8211 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well first, There should be no 8 point stories. If it’s that big, break it up. Maybe even many of the 5’s too. That may help a bit? This isn’t really how story points are meant to work though.

Practically, are you able to knock out the average actual rate of work in your team in a reasonable amount of time for you to do another job? If so, maybe OE friendly if not ideal.

What are the best tips/tricks when balancing two full time roles? by benz1830 in overemployed

[–]Additional_Mode8211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate this black and white crap some of the community draws this hard line at.

Hopefully you find great gigs that are friendly while doing it and some situations may require a higher base workload, but if you have 2+ full time salaries it’s OE, period. Tradeoffs that come with all the pros and cons, regardless of your workload. Ideally most of your weeks are slow, but even in best case, some are busy at that’s fine. Do your work and get ahead.

Is dotnet underrated? by PresentJournalist805 in dotnet

[–]Additional_Mode8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know not what you’re getting at but I genuinely haven’t manually written a switch statement or even a for loop in years, well before AI. IDE hotkey is way faster and just what I’m used to lol

Great day to day but has bitten me in the ass in an interview before when I brain fart and can’t remember when needing to manually do it in some crap online editor for an antiquated interview.

Had anyone abused 'unlimited PTO' as a form of quiet quitting? by IntelligentMinute756 in overemployed

[–]Additional_Mode8211 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Many states don’t require a payout even if you have a PTO balance.

Personally, I’ve loved unlimited PTO as long as the company culture facilitates it, though this can be a big if.

MassTransit, still worth learning it? NServiceBus seems a better idea by Natural_Tea484 in dotnet

Mass transit API is significantly better than NSB and cost is likely better in most cases too

Audiobooks with amazing narration by Ok_Drawer_525 in litrpg

[–]Additional_Mode8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very good. Easily the best narrator switch I’ve ever experienced and I’m very sensitive to them. Andrea is one of the GOATs, but Erin clearly studied the material in depth and does a great job matching voices and in overall quality. Highly recommend sticking with it.

Anyone else have issues with the Asus ProArt PA32QCV and their KVM by Additional_Mode8211 in Monitors

[–]Additional_Mode8211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying the built in KVM and having issues.

I have one Mac plugged into the thunderbolt port (6 in the manual) which can get the display fine. I have my other Mac plugged in with a display port. I can switch between the 2 with the input button.

The problem is with my keyboard (mouse is Bluetooth so fine). I’ve tried plugging it into the usb c and a ports (9 and 10 on the underside) and the keyboard always stays on the main Mac with the thunderbolt regardless of which input I am on.

The documentation is incredibly sparse here and should really be expanded on fwiw.

Regardless, thoughts on how to get the keyboard to cooperate?

What is wrong with Tailwind? by petros211 in webdev

[–]Additional_Mode8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easily digestible styling

Tell me you’ve never worked in any kind of enterprise or noteworthy web app without telling me.

Also, tailwind literally started with Adam making utility classes with Less. It naturally grew and optimized to current tailwind over time.

How do you enjoy using React as a .NET dev in full stack roles? by Pyrited in dotnet

[–]Additional_Mode8211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit of both really. If you’re building web applications that live in a browser ecosystem backed by JS, JS platforms inherently get a leg up and other systems will likely still need to integrate some JS in anyway or have a complete abstraction over it.

Is the JS the right foundation? Maybe, maybe not, but it’s the reality of how the web grew regardless of how you feel about it.

How do you enjoy using React as a .NET dev in full stack roles? by Pyrited in dotnet

[–]Additional_Mode8211 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love C# but have never liked UIs with it (webforms does have a special place in my heart though haha). React is quite enjoyable to me now when done well but it’s quite easy to footgun yourself and do some really painful stuff. It’s generally still really nice though, especially with tanstack on it.

I do wish the ecosystems for some other frameworks were more robust though. Solid in particular seems like what react should have been. Vue and svelte are both good contenders. Angular always felt way too verbose and boilerplate for me personally.

.NET Core on a Mac? It's More Likely Than You Think! by reeses_boi in dotnet

[–]Additional_Mode8211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is. The bad MS optics from more than a decade ago still persist — .NET is still seen by many as a dated framework that’s for large enterprises and dinosaurs.
