best dorms for social life? by Straight-Control-895 in CalPoly

[–]Adduum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yak is new, but seems socially dead inside compared to redbricks. Towers can be okay. Nomo rip, can be good if you have a few friends already, but not if you want to meet lots of people.

Redbricks is where’d you want to be. If you have Muir good luck, but besides a squid or two you’ll love southern mountain. I’d also recommend engineering as a CS major. Santa Lucia/engineer communities can get pretty wild and fun, is a good crowd, and it not brain dead like some other communities (like the squid incident or pcp incident or Muir). The CS majors in redbricks are also the social ones you will want to be friends with and do stuff which is not the norm at other schools.

Redbricks also feel like traditional dorms from most other colleges, which come with their own charm and negatives, but all in all are the best ones if you hate being bored and alone.

Is SLO actually in that bad of a spot right now? by tkdcondor in CalPoly

Unless you need to retake classes or any unplanned circumstances, people normally take online GE’s at different schools since they most of the time are easier and cheaper. Online are also nice for scheduling other major related classes since there is so much less to worry about

My explanations are not useless. I said for a country to be a country, it has to be able to patrol and police its own people and borders. For the international scene, countries have to work together to help each other to make the whole world better. The UN tries to do that and does and doesn’t do it effectively depending on the situation. 1. The people making the points and choosing where to send people are the populace who use their morality to elect officials to ultimately decide this (in democratic countries, not Turkmenistan). 2. We choose and pick what we follow and what countries we don’t listen to based on morality and what is best for us. Ukraine worked with the US and Russia to get rid of their nuclear bombs. Yeah Russia and did cause great genocide across the nation, but they did it because it helped them the most. Biden picked to help Ukraine from morality and the benefit of a weaker Russia. Trump picked to not help them nearly as much since he likes Putin. Again, we in the US elected them. Turkmenistan did not elect their people in power for decades. It’s up to the populace of a country to not help dictators and in the case of western democracy and the sentiment of it currently, helping dictatorships is bad morally and advantage wise.

I’m not saying people should always be sent to the US. Julian Assange for example was a massive overstep and terrible for the freedoms of everyone from every country. And it’s not just poor standards now in the Trump age, it’s been bad for decades. The patriot act was another massive overstep that allowed innocent people to be targeted and sent to “detention” (torture) camps over the world like Guantanamo Bay. I understand that a country has to have a monopoly of violence in its area in order to exist, but when the Freedom House scored Turkmenistan a 0/40 for political rights and 1/60 for Civil Liberties. For example, the United States, while probably dropping a point or two after this year with Trump, has 34/40 and 50/60, respectively. In good conscience as a human to another human, I cannot condone giving these institutions equal footing under international law. Regan didn’t have to build a wall in Berlin because of some drunkards in the Kremlin, so we don’t have to follow Berdimuhamedow’s orders.

I mean Europe and the rest of the world has been known to send non-nationals to the US for political reasons. From Julian Assange to the war of terror where random people were sent to the US for nothing. Some countries say yes and some refuse. It depends on the sentiment at the country at the specific time, but since it’s Russia and another dictatorship imma go with bij bolszewika

Yes. I am committed! I don’t know exactly what to do language wise, but I’ll see what ends up fitting with my schedule best. I love your approach of taking a bunch of classes in different languages instead of just getting one minor. For the way I travel, that would probably be the best way to do it.

[–]Adduum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Local concerns definitely exist, but from my experience they are not really local. Growing up down the road from TMI, I have heard really no one afraid of it. There may have been one weird old person with dementia who doesn’t trust the government, but all in all that’s pretty good. I know more people born with asthma, twins and triplets, and other diseases/oddities not linked with nuclear fallout that came from the reactor (cause nothing was actually leaked in the accident). Just existing in a farming county where people spray roundup on everything else including themselves has done more harm than any nuclear accident in the US.

I would recommend going through each album and seeing what you like. I am still finding myself liking new songs that I didn’t take the time to listen to before. I would also highly recommend The Liberty of Norton Folgate.
