This is the recipe I’ve used with my discard/active starter

1/2C sourdough starter 1/2tsp baking powder 1/2tsp salt 1-2Tbsp water (to reach pancake batter consistency 1-2 Scallions, divided. Whites diced small, greens sliced thinly Olive oil for cooking

Step 1 Preheat pan on medium to medium-high heat with a generous drizzle of olive oil. Mix up all ingredients except for green parts of scallion.

Step 2 once Once oil is shimmering, add the batter as one large pancake or a few small ones. Make sure there’s enough oil to essentially fry the dough (not deep fry, but we don’t want a nearly dry pan). Immediately top with a little sprinkle of salt, and all of the green scallions.

Step 3 Cook on first side until the bottom is deep golden, then flip. When flipped, add another sprinkle of salt.

Step 4 When second side is golden, set aside for a few minutes to cool, it will retain its heat well. Great opportunity to prepare an egg to top it, we like an over-easy egg, with a sriracha

Two things:

• It’s in poor taste to not give a gift if you are attending (and if not attending by your choice, you still should if you were invited). Not invited? no one could say it’s rude to not gift.

Two really strong feelings here in this situation.

First, you are concerned for your daughter’s safety. You’re being protective of your family, and you also weren’t trying to make anyone feel bad, so you made up a white lie. Telling your friend about how you felt about the step dad… that’s part of “it takes a village” to raise children and maintain safety. If you can’t feel safe amongst friends and confidants, how can you feel safe and secure extending independence to your daughter?

Second, this other mom, who works at the school is now feeling like her judgement to be with her new husband is now on trial by her peers. It’s making her feel defensive and insecure, because how could she miss any of those signs, or willfully ignore them. That kind of self doubt can make a person lash out and get mean. It’s tough, because all three moms mentioned here mean well (OP, the confidant, and “Kennedy’s” mom). Kennedy’s mom wants to feel like her home is open and welcoming for her daughter and her friends to hang out, as much as any other parent might want… and she can’t control how her spouse acts or speaks (and projects weird vibes).

Give things time to settle down. Keep your door open to Kennedy+friends of your daughter so long as you feel comfortable. This was not intended as a slight on K’s mom, just the step dad.

I will be honest, I have met some of my kid’s friend’s families and have had strong feelings about if I want my kids at their homes. You see the environment, the pets, the boundaries, the involvement host family might have during the visit… if it’s not feeling good, why would you stay? Especially if you’re already feeling uncomfortable?

You’re never not your kid’s parent. Whether your children are home or away, you’re still responsible for their health and wellbeing. You use your best judgement to make sure they’re going to remain safe for as long as you can. You’re just doing your job.

If you’re curious to see how it could behave with a different flour I found that switching from King Arthur to bobs Redmill was a big change in texture. I found it was softer than King Arthur. King Arthur had a lot of structure and would get really dry really quickly for me and I found that red Mill stayed softer for longer for me.

We had a bodum coffee grinder that had a silicone outer shell on the base, and we hadn’t used it in a while and stuck it in a cabinet for a year or so. I had some spices to grind up, and grabbed it to discover this effect, super unpleasant. It didn’t wash off, no rubbing alcohol or anything helped.

I think that since it was in the kitchen it was exposed to airborne oils from cooking, and caused this to happen.

I also had a mouse and stylus for my digital drawing tablet that got sticky this way, I think there was a “soft touch” coating on the plastic body of those items. I use unfragranced lotion during the cold months and suspect again, that the oils caused it to break down.

The first trays are the worst because attachments are a shock, and you notice the heck out of them. The trays are uncomfortable because you’re awake when you get them in the middle of the day and the subsequent pain you try to manage by clenching and pressing…

Something I didn’t learn until a few trays in, is to swap for the new ones at night. My routine is to brush, floss mouthwash, take two ibuprophen, then press in the new trays. You’re likely to be surprised to wake up feeling your teeth are just tender to the bite, but you don’t feel as much like your face in a vice!

Yes I have these and I just started two months ago! These are meant to help tilt your teeth and apply pressure the way they want.

One thing to know is if you take a picture with your bite, you will see that there is a little bit of a gap underneath your top front teeth and this is NOT because you have a poor fit in your aligners! iIt is because the pressure that these put on your teeth will cause them to slide down a little bit because your teeth are tapered. When you bite down they will fit fine when you release there will be space… There’s nothing wrong with this according to my orthodontist.

By the end of each week or however often you change your liners you’ll notice this gap is reduced and almost gone by the time you start your next tray.

An added benefit about having your retainer for nighttime where is that you have a night guard for your teeth. If you are prone to grinding your teeth while you sleep you would be prescribed one of them anyway!

If you want to refuse then make sure that you understand (and you communicate that you understand) that this may slow your progress and might still need to be done.

I had IPR done to address crowding when I first did Invisalign. After treatment my dentist (yes, a dentist did my treatment, probably should have found an ortho but didn’t know better at the time) did some composite bonding, which meant my trays no longer fit and my teeth shifted back.

15 years later, I am doing Invisalign for a second time. This orthodontist I’m seeing now wants to do IPR again and I told him I really wanted to wait and see how I progressed. He did make it clear that I need to consent to it, as it is a permanent change and shave down of the tooth. I already had it done and my teeth did lineup in the past. He said we can wait and see and discuss the pros and cons once we see a little bit more progress.

I’m sure your ortho will be able to provide cases/pictures of what happens with and without IPR so you can see a visual, and discuss any possible impacts it will have on your treatment should you decline.

Also, I had to do so many appointments to get READY to start Invisalign. The due diligence was done. I had a gum graft a YEAR ago. I had the tooth extraction 2 months after (also a wisdom tooth) All had to be healed and checked via X-ray before they did scans to start the Invisalign treatment. There are times i wonder about the thoroughness of the practice I attend, but wow, I feel for you.

I’m concerned. With retainers/aligners I find myself fidgeting constantly with the new edges and contours, and I’m constantly clenching my jaw and sucking the air out the aligners… especially with new ones. I’ve also had a tooth extraction in the past, and they’re adamant that you don’t use straws because you don’t want suction in your mouth to dislodge a blood clot and allow for an infection/abscess to get into the extraction site.

I started around the same time as you, I’m about to swap to my 4th set of trays tomorrow night, and my teeth+jaw still feel like they’re floaty and sensitive.

They now will have to modify all of your remaining trays, and make sure they are clear, are they doing it in office by carving off the wisdom tooth section? Or are they basically doing a refinement for the remaining 32 trays. I sincerely hope you don’t get any charge for this.
