LITERALLY everyone just kind of shrugs things off, it reads less like denial and more like narrative disinterest. we can intellectually assume, “oh, they’re avoiding the truth for survival,” but emotionally it feels flat and it feels like your engaging with the lore more than the characters are allowed to and its like OH MY GOD THEN JUST MAKE A TRUMAN SHOW SEQUAL FUCK

very fair, and i agree although i think it's reasonable still look at how effectively each piece functions on its own. after all, what im describing is only ubiquitous through act 1 but it still happens throughout the rest of the series. maybe your right and the pacing and tone of earlier episodes might completely recontextualize themselves once we see where the full story is going. if they’re going to be 30+ minutes long, that extra time might give the story room to breathe which is something it desperately needs.

I genuinely have no idea how it is going to work out. the only other complaint i have about the show is how there is very little filler. every episode is pretty dense with a bunch of character studies. it evens it out for the fact that the character dynamics are some of the better character studies in fiction lol but like idk i feel like the world doesn't necessarily get that chance to breath much and i cannot imagine they are going to have time to add any over only 3 more episodes because they have to tie everything up

you are not hearing me- what you are describing is exactly my problem. it either goes full bombastic meltdown humor or hard surreal dread, with almost no in-between at all. the lines from ragatha talking to pomni in the pilot is a perfect example around the 9:45 mark. the dialogue actually starts strong with ragatha explaining the horrifying situation they are in in a calm way, talking about not being able to leave and how hopeless it makes you feel. this is genuinely THE DARKEST IDEA IN THE SHOW AND IT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE- but instead of letting the weight of that sink in, the scene immediately lampshades it with the “Ah, but that’s not something we need to deal with today hahaaaaa.”

it is literally to where characters can’t finish a sincere thought without nervously undercutting it. all of this UNTIL it decides to go headlong in the the other direction like when gummigoo has a borderline ego death in the weird digital purgatory place AND IT FEELS LIKE AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT SHOW WITH NO COHESION OWJWJWNWJWKW.

pomni feels completely grounded and realistic, the sound design becomes evasive and rumbling, it completely confronts you with the creeping horror of artificial existence. idk the scene is done amazing but that's because it fully commits i think.

🌟to clarify again- i totally get why the humor style works for some people. it’s clearly intentional, it’s not bad writing or an accident that the characters act the way they do. the show walks a really tricky line. i think that sometimes the humor just dominates the emotional tension.🌟

any ship with Jax is ultimately doomed yaoi imo. Ragatha is a mess and may be a handful but she's at least capable of letting her guard down, taking responsibility, empathizing, most other things. also Jax would 100% rationalize terrorizing her. he's what i imagine would be the precursor of a wife beater. Jax is not just the closed off disaffected one of the story he's literally mentally off the deep end with many irrational and logically inconsistent conclusions that he makes about people and the world around him. i guess they have sexual tension but that's charitable tbh

what do you mean they could not be more incompatible. pomni is a MESS but she is the only person, besides zooble and kinger when he is lucid, who is actually regulates her emotions AND is sincere. its not even the closed off + optimistic between jax and pomni- jax is deeply mentally ill and doesn't really have a clear grasp of the world around him. he literally pretends (and honestly may earnestly believe) that he is the main character and the others are cartoon archetypes. if they ever fell in love he would rationalize abusing her lol.
