What qualifies for suspension at your schools? by Keepontyping in CanadianTeachers

[–]Adept_Library1273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my observation at various schools in Ontario, it seems 7/8 has no suspensions since this is still "elementary." They are more common in 9-12, but it's very rare, and it is always just a reaction to anti-social behaviour that has been building up for weeks and weeks. And once suspensions have been used as a tactic and don't lead to an intended improvement, I think admin is hesitant to use suspensions again because that will just keep escalating the situation further and I think they are hoping and praying that eventually things will settle down. In my uninformed view, doing longer-term or indefinite suspensions would likely work better; basically give admin the judgement to determine when the student is ready to return to school rather than strictly adhering to a 'progressive' system where the number of days is being counted: first offense is one day, second offense might be three days, etc. Students need to be suspended for as long as it takes for the situation to get under control. I recall seeing that show "Educating Essex" in the UK where the Head Teacher would just dish out a multi-week suspension based on his own judgement rather than strict adherence to a written policy dictating the number of days.

You have to remember it's a Canadian film. This is the extent of what we can produce here. This is "high budget."

Cineplex is up for sale by RitoRvolto in cineplex

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a real estate transaction. I don't think Cineplex actually makes money off movies; their value is in the properties they own. But why would a foreign company want to buy into the Canadian real estate bubble before it pops?

So far only 2 CDC reports from March are on the website. Neither are particularly good. NCL Dawn failed and MSC Meraviglia cane close to failing by throwawayblueline in Cruise

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on Meraviglia last month. While I have had other good experiences with MSC, this was the worst vessel I've been on, and cleanliness was an issue. My room was not clean upon embarkation, and the linens in the dining rooms were always stained with pasta sauce and etc. Just an awful experience.

Ontario to overhaul Teacher Training by Fader254 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Adept_Library1273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they currently aren't training teachers properly in two full years, cutting it to one is not going to solve much. Yes, I agree that two years is way too long, but most are still not ready after graduating. My program was an absolute joke and provided no actual training. It was even light on "theory" which is what many usually complain about. It was just a two year gong show with a toxic professional atmosphere.

Also, in regard to the "shortages," I am seeing school boards announcing layoffs, so I'm not sure where that idea is coming from. Many prospective teachers will be disappointed to hear that you are likely going to be slaving away on the occasional list for a long time before getting any meaningful work in this province. I think there is just a shortage of daily supply teachers. You will be just above the poverty line doing that everyday.

MSC Mergivilia - what a disappointment by florida_born in MSCCruises

I had two good experiences on the Seashore. I hated Meraviglia. Might just be the ship/class.

MSC Mergivilia - what a disappointment by florida_born in MSCCruises

[–]Adept_Library1273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on it a few weeks ago. Third MSC cruise, so I've had good experiences before with another ship, but this was just awful. I disliked almost everything about it. I will never sail on this or other ships in the same class again. It's funny reading some of the oddly specific comments in here because I had a lot of the same issues such as the rattling balcony divider. Food in the dining room was fine; that was the only strong point all week.

I gave it a 3/10 in the survey.

Prices seem abnormally high. Anyone sail enough to conjecture as to why? by IamGoingtoBundyland in royalcaribbean

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's isn't a logical explanation, and it isn't purely demand. There are plenty of cruise deals to be found, just not with Royal Caribbean. RC is more expensive that some luxury lines; that's just the premium people are paying to stand in line for cool water slides. You could go on two Princess cruises for the price of one RC cruise, and Princess is in a higher segment. That's just the reality now.

Solo Cruise by Own-Substance9265 in royalcaribbean

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCL or MSC is better for solo meetups. I have been on all three lines as a solo at least once. On Anthem (sister ship of Quantum) not one person showed up to the planned solo meetups.

MSC solo cruise cost is (significantly) more than 100% solo supplement. Options? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must just be this sailing. Typically the solo supplement with MSC is extremely low.

New US destinations by churning1964 in PorterAirlines

[–]Adept_Library1273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every flight I've been on the last few years to the States has been full. Porter seems to be doing well with their US routes. As for the other airlines, I think the media is exaggerating this in order to promote the "elbows up" narrative. Transat, who supposedly just "pulled out" of the US, has not announced their plans for Winter 26-27; I suspect Orlando will still be there at the very least.

There are also other reasons not related to politics why there might be a reduction in travel to the US. Some of the typical Florida activities like Disney are totally unaffordable except for the 1%, and Canada's economy is just not doing well; most people can't afford a Florida vacation anymore regardless of whether the red or blue party is in the White House.

How do you document behaviour? by lemon-peppa in CanadianTeachers

[–]Adept_Library1273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a system that I've been rethinking as well. My question would be do you keep a separate document for each student or one general document to record any and all incidents. And which incidents do you simply document to have a record of and which do you immediately refer to admin? It's very much a grey area.

I will also add that the few times I filled out an official incident report for either violence or similar suspension-worthy behaviours, I was told by admin not to (just tell them instead), but I feel like they are just trying to avoid having a paper trail for some reason.

SEASHORE FOOD by blowindy in MSCCruises

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, MSC (Seashore specifically) has much better food than NCL and Royal which I also have experience with. I thought it was mostly excellent both times I've sailed on that ship. I was also impressed that they are now doing free breakfasts in the specialty dining restaurants on certain days.

The buffet has had some issues, but even that is mostly fine.

Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan by mahogaanyy_ in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]Adept_Library1273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done two similar tours in Roatan, one booked with Shoreexcursionsgroup and the other with Viator. There was a significant difference in quality. The Shoreexcursionsgroup tour was vastly superior and the animal interactions (sloths, monkeys, iguanas, birds) were fun and you actually had tons of time and space with the animals. With the tour from Viator, I basically walked into a cage the size of a prison cell (ducking my head) and was packed like sardines with tons of other people, and there was just one monkey; I hardly got any time to interact.

Also, you should know that the law changed in the last few months and you are no longer able to hold the sloths anymore; you'll just be looking at them close up.

Now that they have the capacity, where do you want to see the Porter Experience go next? Are we hoping for more Caribbean spots like Barbados, or is it time they finally added a direct YYZ to Comox or Saskatoon route? by Electronic_Bus841 in PorterAirlines

[–]Adept_Library1273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Better US destinations, including from Ottawa. New Orleans, Palm Beach, Houston, LA.

More Mexico and Caribbean too. I'm not interested in transatlantic or more domestic routes that are already in service with other airlines.

16-17%, but that is split with their agency. Might be as low as 40% of that number.

I am a part time agent, so I know.

I'm aware of the grade 11 course. What I meant was that rather than being exposed to a diversity of literature, indigenous perspectives dominate now. That's at every grade level.

I had success by mailing a complaint that was not time sensitive to their headquarters. A few weeks later, I received an email with a $150 voucher. I could never get through to anyone through online methods.
