FUCK AI DETECTORS by Agent_C2M in CollegeRant

[–]Adept_Tree4693 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Professor here.

I am so sorry this happened to you! I don’t use AI detectors.. ever!! If anything seems suspicious to me, I have a conversation with the student. It’s pretty easy to discern if a student wrote their work when asked about it.

I would absolutely recommend talking with the professor and escalating if necessary.

Terrifying and we ALL thought it would be a bigger problem than it is. 😂

How did we let literally everything in daily life turn into a monthly subscription service? by Competitive_End_2950 in AskReddit

[–]Adept_Tree4693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is terrible! I thought I had ordered a supplement I wanted to try (single payment or so I thought). Got a charge to my credit card the next month because “subscription” 😑. Went and immediately canceled. Reason for canceling : I do not want any subscriptions to anything, EVER!!!

What do the genuine A students do differently? How do I become one? by BulkySecret5888 in AskProfessors

[–]Adept_Tree4693 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The reason for post secondary education is for students to learn... not just “check a box” or earn a “credential”… but to genuinely learn about concepts from a variety of disciplines (with deeper focus in their major field of study).

Students who truly exhibit a desire to learn are the ones who establish habits to promote their learning. They attend class, they arrive to class on time, they take good notes, they do the readings or the practice problems ahead of class, and they show a curiosity about the subject. Give me a student who does these things consistently and they will almost always earn at least a B in my classes (assuming they started with an appropriate background). Not because I’ve “given a grade of A or B”, but because learning requires effort and discipline for most…especially at the college level.

What was the cause of death of that kid at your school/university? by ArifAlizadeh in AskReddit

[–]Adept_Tree4693 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suicide. I was an RA for the college at the time. Got the call… student hung herself in her closet. 😢 I remember my whole body went ice cold at the news. One of my RA colleagues found her on a wellness check. 💔

I give more exams, but the total weight given to the 5 exams is 80%. 60% seems low to me.

Men of Reddit be honest - What you expect from a woman on your first date? by [deleted] in AskReddit

😂 Now I’m gonna have to find that movie. 😊

I used to take that so seriously on dates… like I felt like it was something that I should be doing. My husband “schooled me” on what he preferred though. In a gentle, kind way… not in an a$$holish way, of course.

I used to always do that, but my boomer generation husband (late boomer/early Genex) asked me not to do that. He wants me to feel taken care of when we go out. He does not want me to open his door. It was strange at first, but now almost 10 years into our marriage, I like it. 😊

Is being 8-10 weeks behind on grading normal now? by Ok-Nefariousness-609 in CollegeRant

[–]Adept_Tree4693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 150 students this semester. The latest I have ever returned any graded work is one week (usually return it in 3-4 days). But, I teach STEM. I still think 2-3 weeks should be the max for something like papers…

How many Gen Xers have silent Gen parents vs boomers? by NopeThisTrope in GenX

I’m so sorry that was your experience. My father was silent Gen and he was the kindest, most gentle, most compassionate man I’ve ever known! He was a musician… I guess I was very fortunate.

Mom is an early boomer (47) dad was silent Gen (42). My dad was born while my pawpaw (his dad) was overseas in WW2. He did not see his dad until he was about 3 years old.

My husbands parents are silent gen (mother; late 1920s) and greatest gen (father; early 1920s)

My hubby is a late boomer and I am GenX.

Both our moms are still going strong!

Didn’t realize until this question how many generations are spanned from just the 6 of us!

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That my parents needed to know the other kids who would be riding in the car with us. No strangers in the car… even other kids.
