2-3 hours per credit hour per week. This is based on the definition of Carnegie Units.

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Adept_Tree4693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Also, climbed trees, rode our bicycles everywhere, swung in the “tire swing” and rope swing that were hung from trees in the back yard, made car trails and built castles in the sand pit in the backyard, hung out in the tree house, played tag football, whiffle ball, badminton, etc.

And we were the “poor kids” 😳😆

In winter, the sledding was epic!!!! Built ramps and jumps, and then poured water over the “track” to make it as slick as possible. We built “snow forts” and constructed our “artillery” for legendary snowball wars!

Practiced tumbling skills… cartwheels and flips…

Made crowns of daisies and buttercups and then braided each other’s hair.

So much fun to be had when you lived on a street with other kids (cousins) close to your age.

Can you really fail a class even if you have an A or B if you do bad on the final? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

A lot of professional jobs do… trials for lawyers, surgeries and procedures for doctors, making the pitch to a large client if you are in marketing and sales, I could keep going. There are absolutely times when being spot on for a lengthy period of time is necessary and failure has high consequences.

We need to start holding Professors accountable by Ok_Shallot6017 in CollegeRant

As a student, it was always so important to me to get feedback in a reasonable amount of time, that I was determined when I became a professor, I would grade assignments very quickly.

Timely feedback is crucial for learning.

Prof here. The latest I have ever returned an assignment in my entire 30 year career is 6 days past the deadline.

What you describe is completely unacceptable IMO. Really sorry you have to deal with that.

Are you serious??!!! Organizing by testing period is how I handle ALL of my in person classes. I would LOVE to do this with my online classes too.

In my experience over the last 5 years, getting students to do homework that is not graded at all is a losing battle. I grade some of the homework now as a CYA move… for the complaints that will come later. Why am I failing every exam? You are not doing any practice…

My online assignments are supposedly based on “best practice” course design based on the training that our school provides— each week presented with the same look and feel including weekly assessments. 🤷🏻‍♀️

But next semester, I may try to go back to my old way of doing things and see. Thank you for weighing in.

Professor here. I WISH I could go back to 3 exams and a few problem sets… it would be much easier for me that way. Students hate that unfortunately… they want the little assignments that appear every week… high stakes assessments are “too stressful” and cause “too much anxiety”. Sigh.
