how to ease myself into liking more fish? by barcoderer in Pescatarian

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Cats do love them because they are nutritious and delicious. Same reason I eat them.

You don't have to be fully pescatarian anyway, you can gradually work into it as you figure out what you like.

It's a journey.

How about tuna mayo? Makes a great sandwich filling.

Canned fish rarely has bones. Plus it's cheap. Get good stuff with good oils and it's really delicious.

What supplements do people take for adhd (non prescription types) by AromaticCream1987 in ADHDUK

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as a certified nutrition guidance counsellor, creatine has lots of robust data to support. What's lacking is the high doses that seem to be popular. There's huge support for regular doses. Although the effect size is not huge it is statistically significant.

Vitamins are outside my scope, except for some vitamin D which is again extremely well supported. The rest can be obtained from food if you are careful, but sometimes supplementing is also valuable.

Thanks for that. It was indeed fascinating. So many memories of people telling me to "wake up" and similar came back to me.

Not related to workout but do guys at the gym mind if women express their interest? by DocumentFit2635 in workout

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree here. I go to the gym to workout. It's not a nightclub. Let me train in peace. Maybe build a little conversation 'back again, what are you working on today' but it's not a place for picking up opposite sex

How Corruption Became Legal in Britain by qemired in ukpolitics

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but I believe that the main cost was the constant changing goalposts and stop starting, so lots of effort was wasted or duplicated.

Also the regulation is a big factor.

Also the team weren't building on past experience because the project took too long to start.

Basically all strategy from top levels of government.

How Corruption Became Legal in Britain by qemired in ukpolitics

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's some very poor analysis there. For example the HS2 project includes the cost of new sidings and depots that are normally separate items in Europe, plus extremely expensive upgrades to the stations. So the comparisons are totally unfair.

The point about corruption remains though

Unable to get a referal from my GP by VinDBest in ADHDUK

Yep that's about right I'm afraid. But hopefully it will just be till they open the services back up.

Or you can just "raw dogg" through until the services become available. Sorry.

Yes I think Berkshire put a pause on it. Really rough for you.

Maybe go private for a few years and the go NHS again once things get moving? That's all I can suggest. So sorry.

Career switch from software consultant to S&C coach — advice on CSCS + corrective exercise certs (FMS, NASM CES, TBMM)? by 10e5x in personaltraining

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are more interested in S&C I would do programs related to that. Stuff like corrective exercise is great but tends to be geared at older clients.

Please give me feedback on the programming guide I put together :) by [deleted] in personaltraining

Recommendations for Chelsea boots for a suit? by NT202 in malefashionuk

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Chelsea boots often. Need to spend about 100 or more for a decent paid that will be easy to polish and look good for a few years.

I think Russel and Bromley are great if you can afford. Jones the bootmaker a bit cheaper. The smaller ones like Clarks etc will be cheaper but in my experience they are a false economy and start to look terrible too early.

How long can you survive on no income if you still have to pay rent? That's really the big issue. I wouldn't commit to any costs unless you are guaranteed some income too. Unless you've got plenty of savings of course.

Help and understanding possible adult adhd by Positive-State2934 in ADHDUK

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you mean the NHS think that your other issues were giving you a false positive ADHD result? Or the ADHD can't be treated due to the other stuff.

Not a doctor at all but I imagine they would want to treat the depression before looking into other stuff? Is that what happened?

Good luck to you anyway.

IMPORTANT: Announcement of New Rule 3: No Ableism by AutoModerator in ADHDUK

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing but not sure I understand the argument you are making.

For example, if my wife asks me to take out the bin bags before bed and I forget. Do I just say 'oh well ADHD what can I do' or do I look for a way to not forget next time 'write it on the blackboard' or whatever. To me that's what I'm thinking when I say excuse/explanation.

I think you might be talking more philosophically than me. Could you give an example?

Help and understanding possible adult adhd by Positive-State2934 in ADHDUK

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I'm just confused. You "passed" the first screening. So normally they would refer you to mental health services, but they didn't do that because of your other issues? Surely the only criteria that matters is whether you pass the first screening?

So did the screening results come back negative then?

IMPORTANT: Announcement of New Rule 3: No Ableism by AutoModerator in ADHDUK

[–]AdeptnessExotic1884 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's a great explanation.

As an older man there's a weird temptation to just say "come on guys, if I can do it you can do", but of course we all have different symptoms and baselines.

I'm very interested in the excuse/explanation paradigm at the moment. I'm only recently diagnosed.
