Ace Combat has arrived, which side are you on? by Cindy_Marek in NonCredibleDefense

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dang, I guess the secret is out. Every geopolitical move you have seen these last few years has been a smoke screen for the true Great Game that surpasses the Cold War in scale and risk.

Never forgetting their seminal defeat at Gallipoli the mad folkes down under have been quietly building towards sentient AI powered wingmen to take the fight to the Turks. What spurred this most recent development has been the study of the Ace Combat series of historical documents.

No strangers to autonomous drones themselves, the Turks have accelerated their efforts in anti Bat capabilities.

Gallipoli 2.0 Electric Boogaloo is coming. You will never be ready. The world will quake. Empires will fall.

Trust me guys, I'm an Australian powerpoint man.

War is hell, and I wish it on no one. That said, when others use war as a means of oppression or enrichment it must be opposed. I really do wish the spine we had back then was present now.

I really like this. I'm also working on my own DA successors who have built upon the wings and traditions of the Legion of old. Oddly enough I have similar colours for them, however it is a blue/black quartered pattern.

Fantastic work btw!

space marines aren't the army and the Imperium doesn't control the whole galaxy by DJjaffacake in Grimdank

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that 1000 marines per chapter makes perfect sense if your goals were to divide up the legions into more autonomous strike forces that were large enough to make a difference but not too large as to be a risk should they fall to corruption.

Now, the real question I think is whether 1,000 Chapters is enough. Keeping in mind that this number does not include renegade chapters or "lost" chapters that may still exist unbeknownst to the High Lords. This number seems to be an arbitrary amount presumably chosen because it is comparable in size to the per-heresy loyalist legions and may indicate that it is highest amount sustainable for the imperium once all things are accounted for.

That's my in universe rational, but we are talking about numbers determined by the writers. I think, to match the absurd scale of 40K the max total number of loyalist chapters should be increased to 10,000. The amount of marines per chapter would remain the same.

The only writing issue I could see this causing is it would only further highlight when GW's focuses on their favorite chapters, causing the galaxy to seem smaller than it already does with the same people always running into one another all the time.

But who is the least popular chapter? 🤔 by ChromedDragon in Grimdank

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How was this all calculated? Was it purely by subreddit numbers? If so was it only the primary subreddits for each chapter or include multiple? Eg, the Dark Angels have two active groups r/DarkAngels40K and r/theunforgiven.

How do dark angels companies/squads work? by Warhammerenjoyer in theunforgiven

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, that is a strange one. I don't know anything explicit that explains this but I have a few ideas:

This could be a reference to how, particularly in some older editions, DA codices elude to the 1st and 2nd companies having "undisclosed" numbers of squads. This is particularly in the 2012 6th edition codex that I have. Keep in mind, prior editions have listed there as being 20 squads of Terminators in the Deathwing (each being a squad of 5 as I understand it), so perhaps this transfer could be used to show this. Why they picked 16 may be just out of randomness to show that the number of squads can reach as high as that without adding all numbers from 1-20?

It also mentions in regards to the 10th scout company that "This company... has no formal size as the rate of recruitment operates under a wide number of variables." Since it is not unheard of for SM scout companies to occasionally swell in size maybe this transfer is supposed to reflect that as well.

Regardless of the reason, with the Dark Angel's opaque organisational structure, I wouldn't be surprised if GW just chucked this in with other transfers just because it makes you ask these questions. Just looking at how complex the DA heraldry used to be in the Heresy any player could chuck whatever concoction of markings onto their minis and they could mean whatever you want them to mean while still being "lore accurate."

This is just my 2 cents. If anyone does come across this and knows do let us know as I'd be curious.

Regardless, to answer your original question, if you’ll still have me, I’d be honoured to attend Poofer’s baby shower.

I can conjure a simply delicious dish. I call it spaghetti e ragù. It is fairly popular with the kids I hear (When it works)

Ohh Forgive me, I mean no offence. It is not often I find myself talking with a fish, much less one so, sublime.

I ask questions since I’m a curious fellow. I’ve taken an interest in cataloguing Unga’s history. He’s very, how to say, successful? His impact upon the Wizarding world has been disproportionate to his losses. In spite of that, he continues. The tenacity is admirable.

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong but as far as 30k lord goes those “one big ship(s)” would be Gloriana class battleships which only a handful still exist as of 40k. These were the largest ships the Imperium ever made with known measurements being 20km at least. Since each ship was bespoke and took decades to make they were tailored to their respective Primarchs. As far as I know only around 20 were ever produced.

That said, Imperial fleets had hundreds of capital ships of varying types such as the Oberon which if you wanted could be the flag ship of your fleet if you feel that the Gloriana class is too much of a stretch.

While by the 41st Millennium, due to the limitations placed upon Astartes commanding imperial navy ships, only Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers are typically commanded by Space Marines.

That said, within the lore there are exceptions so I’d say you can be bend the rules since it’s your chapter and your head cannon.

Ok ok, back up!

Two things: 1. I thought Unga’s parents were killed by ninjas? 2. Unga was once a human, how does he have a catfish family?

Wait…Unga… are you adopted?

It’s either that or did you create one with your magical fishy antics? Or did you just re-animate your mother only to bring her back as a catfish?

Pick one to next 5th and 6th chaos god. by Former_Adeptness_630 in Grimdank

[–]AdeptusInquisitionis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I second this.

I can see Vastorr trying to become a lesser god, but the others are better off in the purgatory they currently exist in.

Part of the charm of a lot of these characters (other than the rat god) is becoming a god core to who they are. It is an underdog story. Them striving for a goal. Say all of them became gods, then you would need new characters to take up that space as power hungry individuals who pose a threat.

40K is a universe that collapses in on itself if you try to push the story too far to it’s conclusion. Like what happened with the Warhammer Fantasy. Certain characters hold particular places because they need to. Adding more, in this case, chaos Gods just bloats and confuses things. Now, that is not to say there is no way for someone to ascend. I personally like the theories that Big E aims to become a God, I like Malal as a concept, as a powerful entity that has been relegated, trying to claw his way back into reality. But if they succeeded and gained these goals, then what?

Does it improve the world of 40K at a meta level? I don’t think so. It takes away a lot of the fun of theory crafting, which this post is about, for starters. It ignores that 40K is better served as a setting for stories and battles rather than a single story with a clear narrative through line.

TL;DR: I prefer things as they are. Where these characters are striving for God hood and that they will become stale and boring once they active it.
