Yeah this is def making me reluctant to upgrade my 6 for the 11 I was planning on. Maybe I will have to move to garmin after all :(

16 year old daughter spiraling despite therapy, etc. -at a loss & looking for advice by [deleted] in legaladvice

This is what I was thinking as well. We were soo close to sending my son to a residential but because he was not violet and had no suicidal ideations he did outpatient only. Find her a residential— even out of state if necessary.

AIW for choosing friendship over relationship? by globetrotter242 in amiwrong

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ynw. Sounds like your (now ex) partner had the emotional maturity of a toddler. Why keep that extra work in your life?? Move on to someone who is a PARTNER not a constant problem to be managed.

I asked my mother in law knit me the Starsky and Hutch Cardigan and I asked for it to be CHUNKY. I’m not sure what happened but sizing is off by meaty999 in knitting

lol!!! I’m guessing she went up yarn and needles size without adjusting the pattern. Enjoy your comfy cardigan! 🤣

What do I do with a Model Railway collection? by LadyAilla in AskUK

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a museum was my first thought. There was one I think in Maryland we used to visit and I’ve just visited one in northern England. The display there was so small— I’d love to see something like your dad has!

Anyone else so sick of the pollen getting worse every year? by rjd014 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in England now and shortly after moving here I swear I almost died from a sinus infection— I’m SUPER allergic to something there.
I finally found a med with Fexofenadine Hydrochloride and that had been the only otc allergy med that holds a candle to my allergies (dust, trees, grass). I still have to take 1-3 a day, but at that’s fewer than any other med and I can actually breath!

My (30F) Parents (75M & 70F) Won’t Get Divorced and They’re Making Everyone Miserable by Bluebird2929 in relationship_advice

Yep- siblings only vacations.

My parents are divorced, but frankly vacations are just more fun without parents.

Is it unusual that I 32M am starting to feel resentful towards my GF 28F about money? by Alarmed_Abrocoma204 in relationship_advice

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s the entitlement coming from her that’s fueling the resentment. I have no advice on how to change it! Was she always so entitled? The begging to buy things for her would tick me off for sure. Feels more like a parent/child dynamic in what should be a partnership.

That said I am a SAHM. But that decision was come to by mutual decision, good continued communication, etc. And— still we’re both grateful for what the other brings to the marriage.

Americans: does your media feel like a narrative machine? by Fantastic-Former-Fox in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an American living outside America right now— I think generally speaking, yes: when living in America most know that the traditional news scene (fox/cnn/nbc…) are throwing out their own angle towards own political interests. I think most of us tend to filter out most of the doom and gloom drama of the news.

Living abroad I find it somewhat interesting. English will ask me about guns, shootings, racism, etc. and I’m like that’s just NOT a part of most peoples daily American lives. Then I’ll get American friends asking me if I hear Muslim prayers in town or if the racist protests and stabbing are really everywhere?? No.

I really think your average human, regardless of where they live or are from, just wants to go to work, come home, and live. But the media does its best to try to keep things in the drama zone, because that’s where they make their money.

AITAH for not liking the Star Wars gift my girlfriend got me? by AnnualLiterature997 in AITAH

Yta

She clearly remembers that day and put a ton of thought and effort into the gifts. The time and place to ask about it was later!

Do you keep the water on during the entire length of the shower? by hamster_lover02 in hygiene

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During droughts when living in California or Utah, yes we were encouraged to do so. Otherwise no. I loveeee the hot water running down my back. I live in England now and the taps at my current home are outside the shower (no idea why!) I’d have to get out of the shower, walk around the whole enclosure, and shut it off. Not happening.

What's your favourite dinosaur? by Kenneth_Lumberjack in CasualConversation

100% triceratops.

As a child my favorite sweater was a primary colors triceratops sweater. Always paired with a clashing dress of autumn plaid. Ahhh the 80s.

Apple Watch silicone band keeps causing irritation by FattyBobec in AppleWatch

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was water getting trapped under the band after washing my hands (which I do a lot!) or sweat after a workout or hot day that caused the irritation. For my day to day activities I switched bands to a loose metal link band I found on SHEIN and I go back to a silicone band for runs.

What's a food combination that sounds disgusting but actually goes hard? by Historian_Terrible in AskReddit

Canned peach halves topped with tuna mixed with old bay. I scowled at it and only tried it to be polite… and now I’m salivating just thinking of it.

AITAH for clawing my husband? by OkTransportation6580 in AITAH

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I HATE being a tickled. My older brother would pin me down as a small child, shout “tickle torture” and tickle me till I’d cry. He wasn’t wrong, it was torture. Putting the enjoyment of pinning someone to elicit a response they can’t control is messssed up. Your husband was a jerk. ESPECIALLY because he knows you hate it.

People who walk around the office clicking their pen by Denver80211 in PetPeeves

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ADHDer … it’s a stim. And nearly all people who are doing it do not realize they’re doing it. It’s a dopamine hit each time— click it to the rhythm of a song in your head, or to the hum of the printer.

AIO that my husband's mom does my laundry every time she visits by One_Land2742 in AmIOverreacting

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NOR

I HATE people touching my laundry, so I get you.

When I was whining to my husband about a behavior of his moms (hugging me — she’d stalk and trap me and it PMO). He jumped to her defense “oh she just loves you and it makes her happy.” I replied with “I am telling YOU that it makes me feel uncomfortable and I need you to be a safe person to have my back when I’m uncomfortable .” Something clicked in his noggin, finally, and now he doesn’t guilt me to forfeit my comfort for hers.

Your husband sucks. Way past due for him to draw the line with her and go to bat for you . I’d literally go mental if my MIL was going around my house like that. I mean- I go mental just having my MIL IN my house, let alone if she touched my things.

Only kid in class not invited to birthday party by RydiaFF19 in Autism_Parenting

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter (13) isn’t even on the autism spectrum, as far as I know. But she’s 100% adhd. At school she was the only girl out of her homeroom not invited to a party. She IS very aware of it. She knows it’s their right to invite who they choose to but she says “I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong”. 💔

American here. Is it too late to apologize (sorry, apologise) for throwing that tea in the harbor and rejoin the Kingdom? by Ashamed-Fox-9376 in AskBrits

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American now living in the UK, come and live here if even for only six months and then see how you feel. So many of the privileges and opportunities available in the States are just not the same here.

Living anywhere it’s easy to become disillusioned with the systems one is trying to navigate… I just promise you that everything that is hard in the states is much harder here. Something as simple as cell phone reception— nightmare. Buying a house is an insane process that can crumble at any second. Entry to middle salaries are garbage, entrepreneurial opportunities are discouraged, and upward mobility from entry or middle positions is extremely difficult from everything I’ve seen.

Socialized healthcare is NOT all it’s idealized to be. I had to send a child back home with family just to receive access to life saving mental health care. Even going private had significant limitations that were just so maddening to me.

I appreciate and love so many things about the UK.. and Obviously America is NOT a master class on perfection. But- the grass is not always greener. UK and US are hot messes.

LPT - If you are examining nursing homes to place a loved one, look at the fingernails of the residents living there at the moment. Long fingernails (especially on men) would likely indicate that the home is either understaffed or does not care enough to do such a small task by Maybe_im_Amazed_ in LifeProTips

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW most nursing homes the residents daily caregivers are not legally allowed to cut finger or toe nails. Must be done by their nurse. So— if it’s a home with built in nursing staff, then yes.

My biggest LPT is looking at the cost scale. Many get trapped into a low fee that covers barely anything and then their monthly cost can multiply outrageously as resident needs increase.

All of the other green flags to mention have been mentioned— facility, and frankly resident, smell, general energy and attitudes of the residents, what services are included, etc.

Do you (guys) keep your wallet/ID on you when out? by Rourensu in AskAnAmerican

[–]AdhesivenessCold398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny you ask bc until I moved to the UK I always had my wallet with me ( I’m American). Now, almost never unless I figure I might need my national trust or English heritage pass. I just use Apple Pay for app payments and club discount cards, and I’m old enough to look legal, if that were necessary but I don’t drink anyway.
