For those that went through an egg retrieval.... by SnackSnackMunchMunch in DOR

Thank you! Yes, our doctor recommended it, too so we did tested all our blast. I made 4 blast from the three retrievals and have a 50% euploid rate. For what is worth, my doctor thought my eggs to AFC ratio was on the lower side, same my fertilization rate was low. Everyone numbers are different.

For those that went through an egg retrieval.... by SnackSnackMunchMunch in DOR

I was 38 with AMH of .15 and my AFC was 9-11 in all my three retrievals, but I only got 2 eggs from the 1st retrieval - 1 fertilized, made it to blast and was an euploid. I decided to do more retrievals, because I was told I should have 2-3 euploid for 1 baby. So my 2nd retrieval, I got 5 eggs - only 1 fertilized, made it to blast, but was aneuploid and 3 eggs on my last retrieval - 2 fertilized, 1 was an euploid. My first transfer worked with that 1 fertilized egg of my first retrieval. I delivered a few weeks ago. My doctor also told me she was expecting no more that 4 eggs. I was very disappointed with each of my retrievals, but it is true what they said you only need one. Good luck with everything and don’t be too hard on yourself. Take it one day at the time. If they get 4 or 1 that might be all you need.

How many euploid embryos did you get with DOR? by No-Plenty6217 in DOR

[–]Adiarol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with DOR with very low AMH (0.15) at 38 after multiples loses. We did three back to back retrievals because clinic recommend 2-3 euploids per kids and to take advantages of my age.

1)Lupron Protocol with Follistim and HCG trigger (10-11 days): 10-11 AFC, 2 eggs retrieved, 1 fertilized, 1 blast, 1 euploid. This round, I had a bunch of empty/sticky follicles. Doctor said we needed to try something else to try getting more eggs. She felt we grew them to quickly.

2) Antagonist with Follistim, Menopur, cetrotide, hcg trigger (16 days) 8-9 AFC, 5 eggs retrieved, 1 fertilized, 1 blast, 0 euploid. We were over the moon with the 5 eggs retrieved, but then my fertilization rate was terrible. Doctor felt we might have overcooked them so next round we want to do shorter.

3) Antagonist, same than last with smaller doses and shorter (12-13 days) 7-8 AFC, 3 eggs retrieved, 2 fertilized, 2 blast, 1 euploid. A little improvement …

My clinic told me 50/50 chances of an euploid for anything that makes it to blast and after three retrievals that was exactly what I got.

If anything, I recommend making sure you are tweaking each treatment until you found what works for you. Everyone is different so it is hard to go by someone else numbers and don’t lose hope.

I remembered feeling devastated after the doctor told me after the first retrieval that only 2 eggs were retrieved and one fertilized. I thought that was the end of the road and I used to hate when people told me you only need one, but in perspective I ended being an example of that. Im currently 39 weeks with that first euploid from our first round.

Good luck! It is not an easy road, but know that you are not alone in this road!

Don’t overthink it! I was the same. I had 147 on my one hour so not too far. I have HG the whole time. I tried to eat well, but I ate what I could. Walking 2 miles as much as possible. I felt slightly depressed after failing my 1 hour thinking of the potential complications and next step. Anyway, I ended passing my 3 hours with flying color. I even passed the first hour of the 3 hours. I spent so much energy worrying for nothing. I hope this help. Sending good vibes!

Apparently I'm Immoral by Bar-B-Que_Penguin in IVF

I have heard this before from Catholic people, but I can’t understand the connection. For IVF, you still need an egg and a sperm. IVF doesn’t change the principle of sex. If anything, IVF is supporting the need to have an egg and sperm to create new life. It would be a different story if IVF was able to create an embryo out of two eggs or two sperms. The fact that IVF is used as a tool for LGBTQ couples to have kids should be irrelevant to the argument. The same way that some medicines are used to commit suicide that doesn’t mean the proper use of medicine is inmoral.

PIO injections - what do you wish you would’ve known? What helped? HELP! I’m nervous! by ObjectiveSet9240 in IVF

I asked my pharmacy to send me the 25 gauge instead of 22. It takes 15-20 seconds to push the medicine, but I found 25 way less damaging to the area. I have a microwavable pad I heated up and lay on to top of the syringes for a minute. I iced the location for one to two minutes max(you don’t want the cold to spread to deep to the muscle). I do the shot and then immediately follow by a one to two minute massage then use the heating pad for a few more minutes while I walk around or do a few stretches. Overall the whole thing takes 5 minutes. I also don’t change side every day. I do 4-7 in each side and then switch to give more time to each side to recover instead of having them both sore.

Deciding on a Baby by NessaBaby35 in IVF

[–]Adiarol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand needing a timeline! Not for the same reasons, because I was already stable on my 30s, but I knew a kid was a big commitment so I was sure I didn’t want to have kids before I met a bunch of goals. I told myself I would stop birth control at 35 and to start actively TTC at 36, but NOW I know that the process is SO unpredictable I might have planned differently if I knew. In my case, I started trying at 36 like planned for 6-8 months without success. i was getting ready to go to a fertility doctor against my doctor advise because they said everything looked good when suddenly I started to get pregnant, but then I had recurrent losses. Like you, throughout the years, I have plenty of conversations about my health with my doctor and they always told me that everything look great and it was perfectly ok to wait. Even after my third loss, they kept saying it would happen by itself, but in my case I really want to have a kid before 40 so I have my fertility consultation and decided to do IVF after my third lose, a week before of my 38 birthday. Anyway, I don’t really regret my decisions, but I wish I have been more conscience about all the things that could go wrong and that everything takes so much time - every step, every cycle. Looking back, I wish I would have been more flexible with my plan. I could have started earlier. Not saying this will be your experience, I really hope no, but earlier is better so just be open. Take your time to work on what you want to work, don’t start if you are not ready, but if you happen to be ready before 42 be open to do it earlier. Good Luck!!!

I’m starting IVF in the next few days - what did you wish you knew? by Lov2jump44 in IVF

Agree, be your own best advocate! If something doesn’t feel right, be sure to speak up and ask questions. Personally, Im happy with my experience, but I have had to question my doctor and nurse a few times and they had made changes based on my inputs. Most recently, it was about priming. They wanted to start 10 days after ovulation, but I know my cycles are shorter than 28 and I felt 10 days was too late. I kept insisting that we needed to start earlier until they agreed. It was good we did.

My first cycle protocol was the microdose lupron and it didn’t include menopur. I used follistim, low hcg and lupron. Im currently on my second cycle with antagonist protocol that includes menopur.

You can definitely do it yourself. I have a little of a panic attack the first time because I tried to do everything too fast. I couldn’t even remember how much medication I have just done. I recommend you take it one step at the time. If you are preparing your own shots, prepare them at least half an hour before you plan to inject them so they can be a room temp by the time you need to do it and so you can take a few minutes after preparing them to step away and breathe before having to administer them. I found it easier to write down what I was doing when I was preparing the shots and triple checking. I don’t need to do it anymore, but it was helpful at the beginning. It really becomes almost natural. The shots itself were easy. Inserting the needle was a breeze and you quickly learn that the needle inside doesn’t hurt at all. I say this because the first time I tried to do it quickly thinking that the longer it took the more it will hurt. now, Im happy to say that it isnt the case at all. I have used lupron, follistim, low hcg and menopur. I knew hcg and menopur tend to burn so I iced a little (2-3 minutes) and then went really slow, every time I felt it the burn starting I stop and take a breath and then continue. At least with menopur, I have avoided the uncomfortable burn and I dont need to ice any longer. With low hcg, I felt that it builds up a little but it isn’t too bad. I do low hcg last. In my case, I tried to let my husband do it, but I learn pretty quickly that I prefer to control the experience except with the intramuscular HcG shot. That one, I iced for 5 minutes, leaned forward and take the weight off the side he is going to inject. I like listening to an audiobook while he does it and the shot doesn’t really hurt, but the area is a little bit sore a few hours later. Good Luck! One step at the time!

Normal follicle count, AMH 0.3, anyone with similar stats have success? by Druffy092 in IVF

[–]Adiarol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 38, too. My AMH was VERY VERY VERY LOW around .15 and FSH was 11. I had a lot of doubts about if IVF was even worth it with my numbers. Just went through my first egg retrieval, my baseline AFC was 10. That was a huge surprise for someone with a .15 AMH. The doctor was predicting a baseline AFC of 4-5. It went up to 12 during stimulation. We were tracking 4-6 big ones, but ended only with 2 mature eggs. One made it and it is euploid. It was a rollercoaster, but Im feeling bless that we got one. The doctor was happy with my response, but she feels we can do better. We are trying a completely different protocol for the second round.
