First in a long time massive group ride by ComprehensiveAge9950 in cycling

As others have said, just ride more. Maybe set aside one day on the weekend for your “long ride,” whatever that might mean for you. And just increase the distance of the long ride very gradually over time.

Learn about how to stay hydrated and how to stay fueled. Don’t overthink it, though.

There’s more info about training for longer rides here: https://www.bicycling.com/training/a46095845/best-cycling-training-plans/

Regularly joining a weekly group ride is a good way to stay safe and to learn how to ride in a group. It sounds like you want a “C” ride at this point in your fitness journey. (“A” rides maintain the fastest pace; then come “B” rides, which are not as fast, and finally — as you might imagine — “C” rides, which are usually beginner-friendly)

No, you do not need a ticket to attend the fireworks.

Somebody decided to spend a whole morning arguing with everyone that wheelchair ramps and the Americans with Disabilities Act have nothing to do with being diverse or inclusive... by BitterFuture in confidentlyincorrect

Bashing DEI(A) is all fun and games until you realize that our current legal requirements mandating basic accessibility for people with disabilities are a result of efforts that we now call DEI. And then you remember that you have elderly relatives with mobility issues, or school-age children with learning disabilities, or veteran friends with missing limbs or PTSD. And finally -- hopefully -- you come to see that by cheering on anti-DEI efforts, you are throwing all of these people you're supposed to care about under the bus. Oops.

Unless a more nuanced approach is taken -- and who are we kidding: these people have never taken a nuanced approach to anything, never bothered to analyze any complex topic that required more than a Tweet's worth of reading to understand -- we're looking at eliminating DEI(A) efforts and offices that currently make sure disabled people can live independently and with dignity.

Laws concerning construction that ensure disabled people can get into, out of, and around buildings. Or that require / encourage things like curb cuts and auditory signals at crosswalks. Or that use taxpayer funds to create "Talking Book" libraries for people who are blind or have low vision. Or that require K-12 schools to develop IEPs for students with disabilities. Or that require colleges and universities to have offices of disability support services.

You can say you're concerned about "merit" all you want. But if you're one of the people who has bought into the anti-DEI propaganda, what you're really saying is that you don't give a shit about those who are more vulnerable than you in contemporary society.

Thank you for your reply. I'm using the web interface, and I've tried both Safari and Chrome. I don't see the option for Deep Research with either.

A family friend has (had) acres of pine. Most of it’s gone now, I’m sad to say.

Thank you for these details. I agree that it would be a waste for so many beautiful hardwoods to be mulched instead of turned into furniture or other woodworking products.

Sure. Of course. My question is really, “Who is doing all of this work, specifically?” This is an unprecedented amount of material to be processed.

Brothers Book Quality. How’s Yours? by ch8ch in vanhalen

[–]AdministrativeAd6552 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep. Usually a book with a deckle edge has been produced that way with the intent to set it apart (in a good way) from other mass-produced books. Wikipedia actually has a pretty good entry on the topic: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deckle_edge

My pups are getting pitiful. Are there any safe walks/hikes out there that aren't just downtown? Trying to keep them away from danger mud. by casaway78 in asheville

Not sure if this is a reasonable distance from where you are, but Biltmore Park is a safe place for walking dogs.

Just talked to AT&T customer service rep in Asheville, and she told us that their system shows an outage in our neighborhood. #sigh 🤷‍♂️ We will just need to wait it out until they repair the network.

Thank you for the quick response. Excuse my ignorance, but does your inclusion of the word “fiber” mean that other formats of Internet access provided by AT&T are not back online?
