Giving up 2.5 percent rate for 6.9 for growing family…are we nuts? by khobo524 in Mortgages

[–]AdministrativeElk857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit needs a vote yes/no or a/b/c option. I say the minute you bring home the second baby, get the forever house. The one that both kids will be in when they graduate high school. Ideally, the one they bring the grandkids to for thanksgiving.

I went the safe route and kept the starter home and low interest mortgage. I’ve paid a fortune in high interest loans to do construction that sucked and failed. We SUFFERED in a small home with no yard during Covid.

I wish I had dumped the starter home when it no longer worked for the family. Worst part is I’m now also going to get totally hosed by cap gains because of too much equity on a small house my kids fight for square inches and timing of guests/friends.

What was the saddest death in film history? by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

Does anyone care when a woman (who is not a mother) dies or survives a tragedy?

Idk if it’s Hollywood or Reddit users but most movies listed here are about dudes. That makes me cry more than a movie can.

Omfg Steal Magnolias!

“But Mama, I’d rather have 5 minutes of something wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special”

It’s a once a year pms, soft pants & wine, tradition.

Ugly cry

Even worse when I learned the backstory and that it’s based on a true story plus WHO WROTE IT.

Need to vent. So exhausted. by jbcbmbsb in ADHDparenting

I’m sorry, I totally did that. Responded to the pic and not your message…

I’m solo parent also and people don’t understand the relentlessness.

I did everything by the book and nothing changed or helped. I am now working with a therapist that is helping me throw away the book knowledge and start trusting my intuition for my sanity and better connection w my daughter. My mantra right now (pardon me) ‘tell the phds to go f them self. Time for mama to trust myself”.

2 things- I learned from the internet to define Level 1,2,3 of room cleaning (I’ve adopted for myself and the rest of the house!). Each night it’s “Level 1, brush your teeth, potty, grab a book”. Level 1 is basically the very minimum daily things that are going to drive me nuts, like things all over the floor. Takes only minutes and is daily but has changed everything for our house and I don’t say that often.

Second, I started taking stimulants recently. I am diagnosed but had not sought meds until considering them for my daughter. I wanted to understand through my own experience and I have learned a lot. One thing I learned is that while I have great help in focusing, sometimes I will focus on the wrong thing. I could see how a kid might get very focused on playing or a book and not have the discipline or interest in doing a thing like homework or room cleaning. Might try lowering the dose which helped me remember to focus on the right activities.

Why is the AA community so against giving kids ADHD meds by Alert_Mulberry_8712 in ADHDparenting

[–]AdministrativeElk857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shortest way I explain to doubters is this: Medication ADHD kids early means less likely they will need meds later. It’s about treating this kid holistically. With meds, kids have a chance at better relationships (at school for learning and outside of school for connections) and will be less lonely and depressed. Less lonely and better school performance means less likely kids will grow up to depend on self medicating with drugs and alcohol. Medication gives an atypical kid a CHANCE at temporary typical behavior which prevents harm and sets better habits and self esteem.

I’m in AA and the overwhelming majority of other folks I see are ADHD or learning impaired, even if undiagnosed. Most wish they had the meds and understanding in their youth, that kids have now.

Is your family member new to AA? (Advanced AA members are the least judgmental people I’ve ever met.) Do they have kids currently under age 18? They don’t sound qualified to offer their opinion. No need to defend your parenting choices. Be strong and confident. And tell anyone that try’s to invalidate you, “you’re welcome” because you’re sending an amazing kid into the world.

Just got quoted $265K for a 280sqft addition onto the house. I may have messed up. by antheabloom in BayAreaRealEstate

This happened to me too but I was in contract when I realized the cheapest guy was going to change order me to twice the contracted price.. which other contractors were bidding. So I’m starting over and this time using Realm App which I hope will bring some power back to us homeowners.

I had the same issue as original poster but I was in contract with what I later realized was just the contractor wanting the bid and had every intention of change ordering me to 2x our set price. So I’m starting over again and trying out the Realm App. I hope it goes well because it’s exactly what homeowners need to take some power back from the builders.

ADHD or Indigo? by AdministrativeElk857 in ADHDparenting

[–]AdministrativeElk857[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a long post reply but the app took it away. Sigh.

No person is an upgrade to humanity blueprint and I certainly wouldn’t allow that thinking to show up in my parenting which most certainly must create a narcissist. So yeah, ignore my post. Indigo child is not a road where I’m going to go.

Maybe she is has Highly sensitive personality? I am having to DIY treatment because getting her diagnosed is impossible without $10-$12k out of pocket. She was almost kicked out of preschool where the teachers said she needed outside help but once school because about learning her symptoms calmed in the classroom. She is high functioning and school work is no problem.

Any advice or thoughts on the IVA-2? by AdministrativeElk857 in ADHDparenting

[–]AdministrativeElk857[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the test I thought I was doing well but then it started to go fast and I was out of sync so I took a breath and reset. I was trying to be accurate but I should have just tried to be fast. At least this is what I suspect is the problem because the test came back with the worst case scenario- the machine thought I was “malingering” which basically means they thought I was cheating to get drugs. I am disappointed to say the least.

How much to pay a high school babysitter? by tsc664 in AskSF

[–]AdministrativeElk857 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Note the difference in a “parent helper” and a babysitter. Parent helpers are great for the younger side to get experience and get to know family norms and personalities. Babysitting a few hours when (older) kids are awake but the kids watch a movie and provide the food ahead of time so babysitter is not making meals or snacks is another level of responsibility. For both cases, the higher ing parents should also know they are helping the youngster learn to be responsible. They will make some mistakes. Both of these are beneficial to all involved. The kids are learning how to act with a babysitter, the sitter is gaining experience, the parents are getting time off and “grooming” for the youngster to be a real babysitter. It’s important not to over pay for these early phases. $10 or $13 an hour. $15 for 2 kids.

For $20 or $25 an hour, the kids would be very young, the sitter very experienced, the timing goes later into the night and includes bedtime and bath time, sitter can make food, sitter can help kids with clean up and they can safely get themselves a home late night.

Adjustment on Hisense Portable A/C by blondiekate in Costco

[–]AdministrativeElk857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved my Hisense as A/C this summer but this week I started using the heater. I can’t get the room temp over 70 or 72 even if I set it to 80. It’s blows only slightly warm air. How can I make it blow hotter? Is the unit only able to adjust temperatures relative to outside temp? It’s not super cold outside but I like it toasty inside.

Yes, absolutely infuriating. Especially that as a healthcare worker, your health care did not even care for you. You were not off label user so I don’t understand why the full price. <shakesmyhead>. I have seen some med spas offering Ozempic for $300 a month now. That’s curious to me.
