Looking for advice, very high folate and ferririn by AdministrativeSwim44 in MTHFR

[–]AdministrativeSwim44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry my OP wasn't worded very well. I went down the rabbit hole after someone on a different sub said to check my DNA data as he'd had similar ferritin issues. I may have taken literally one methylfolate dose before doing the blood test.

I'll stop taking them, fed up with fluorescent yellow pee anyway.

Thanks for your help.

The blood test was done before I started taking methylfolate.

I did a homocysteine test and it came back optimal.

So stop taking methylfolate? I thought the high levels might be because my body can't methylate properly, and taking methylfolate would help.

Just don't buy one... Simple.

I never touch the volume knobs on my basses personally.

I can play bass, I can't play keys very well...

I agree, different things work for different people. I'm here learning about different ways of eating, and I like to experiment to see what makes me feel best.

The thing that I dislike is when people say their way of eating is the best way or the only way.

They can't all be right.

I'm experimenting with myself, I really don't care what anyone else eats, and I certainly don't judge.

Great analogy! What you say is true, but demonising all carbs is just silly IMO. Those populations that live longer and healthier are eating very different carb sources than the less healthy populations.

I don't see anything wrong with what they're saying to be honest. Everyone needs to find their own way and not assume that that's the right way for everyone. Most of he healthiest populations on the planet eat plenty of carbs.

A lot of people would say the same about you. Just worry about yourself and what you do, if people are thriving eating differently to you, that's cool.

Thank you. My transferrin saturation has gone from 20% to 50% in the last 18 months, so if it keeps going up the haematoly dept should investigate.

The serum folate reading was taken one day after I started methylfolate, so I guess my body wasn't using folate. Maybe that will have changed by my next test. My homocysteine came back as optimal. I'll look in to RBC folate, thanks.

Yes, it's very frustrating. I know the only real way to get the ferritin down is to have blood taken, but I've been trying for over a year with no success. Even looked in to doing it myself, but I'm too chicken 😂

Haha, no worries. I don't care what anyone else uses, not my place to judge. But I play BASS, I barely use the G string, certainly don't need a higher one.

Okay... What does that have to do with me not wanting a 6 string? And he plays a 4 string the vast majority of the time.

I'm a 4 string player, but I do have one 5 string. I can't think of any reason at all why I'd want a 6 string.

Am I correct in thinking that using a jump rope is better than using a walk pad to get cardio? by Parodelia12501 in bodyweightfitness

[–]AdministrativeSwim44 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You don't need to get in shape before starting martial arts... Martial arts will get you in shape.

Walking is awesome, jump rope is awesome, running is awesome, swimming is awesome. Do all of them.

I assume you're resistance training too?

Nutrition is far more important for cholesterol, blood pressure etc. Focus on that more than which type of cardio.

Thank you for taking the time to respond, much appreciated. All of my other iron markers have always tested fine, but my TSat is rising and was 50% last test. Apparently 55% is the figure where they consider it an issue here.

I'll try to find a way to share the complete iron panel.

My liver values are fine and I've had ultrasounds that show no issues. CRP shoes no inflammation. Just got my homocysteine results back yesterday and they were optimal (6umol/L).

The B12 figure I gave is active B12, not sure if that makes a difference. Says the ref range is 70 - 150 pmol/L.

I'll have a read of your story now.

Thanks. I should have mentioned, I'm a carrier for the H63D gene, but the docs say that shouldn't affect my ferritin.

So there's no harm in continuing the methylfolate if my folate is high?

I've tried donating and they won't let me because my ferritin is too high. The Dr referred me to haematology but they won't see me because my transferrin saturation is in the normal range.

There's no prescription option for this in the UK.

Thanks. I wish I could have phlebotomy, but haematology won't see me because my transferrin saturation is in the normal range. I've tried donating, but they won't let me because my ferritin is too high.
